I noticed he was having trouble with large cutlery especially with thin handles ( I don't like them either), so I chose these because they aren't baby size and just right for an older child. Problem solved ! He loves them , they provide the proper leverage to cut food with the fork and knife.

I got these gorgeous my grandson, he is 8yrs old but slightly smaller than some.
