The differences are: - The book: 456 has more recipes - The lid: 456 has a better lid, easier to use IMO - Usage: this one is the most annoying/ different. In 450, when using the machine, you need to stablize the cup by spinning it, "clicking" into their locks. But 456 gets rid of that, just push your cup onto the machine, and start blending. It doesn't have to same stability as in 450, shaking crazily when blending, which is a major disappointment. Hope this helps. **Q: so will this chop up most veggies into liquid form, not just jucing it and having lots of pulp leftover right?drink. no leftovers?** A: Correct...this is how they served morning fruit juices at an upscale hotel I stayed at in mexico: cut fruit into chunks (they peeled, but you don't need to, except maybe pineapple..just wash first), throw chunks into the blender, a little ice, whip it up and pour. You can add a little yogurt, ice cream, whatever...the stuff was great ! **Q: can you use frozen berries?** A: Yes!! I make smoothies using frozen strawberries/blueberries all the time. Just make sure you have enough liquids in there! **Q: I just want a great smoothie-no extraction-but needs to chop ice quickly....is this the right blender?** A: It chops everything very well, including ice. The pros definitely outweigh the cons.PROS:It is SO easy to clean.The old blender(I think it was called Osterizer?) we owned had a failing engine and was incredibly hard to clean. In comparison, the Ninja CLEANS ITSELF.BEST BLENDER EVER!!!Personalized smoothies and sip-and-seal cups:the old blenderhad a huge container which was heavy, hard to pour from (smoothie kept on pouring over the edge), and you couldn't drink from it.If you tried, it would be clumsy and hilarious. With the Nutri Ninja, you can drink directly from the small sip-and-seal cup (jar?) you blended it in.Everyone can make their own smoothie, instead of making a huge barrel for everyone.And it has a well-sealed cap so you can store your smoothie or take it 'on the go' without too much rotting (-:.900 Watts!The old blendertook longer to blend and had just 450 Watts max. This 900 watt Ninja finishes attacking the food far quicker.Looks cool:the old blenderlooked ugly. The Nutritious Ninja looks great and professional.Recipe book:the old blenderdidn't have a recipe book. Still, it's probably so it doesn't crack.The old blenderhad a cup that was made out of glass, and started to crack when we got this fantastic blender.
