I have very thick rough hair and this pomade does a great job of holding my hair in my preferred 'just got out of bed' scruffy look. It is easy to spread in the hands and so easy to apply evenly and is very easy to wash off your hands - I could be wrong but presume it's water based. It dries firm but nothing too hard. I don't think my hair is capable of shining due to the colour so I can't comment on it's high shine capabilities. It has a very masuline scent and I really like it - it's a musky aftershave scent.
