It is a 4 wheel drive and for the price is great as Traxxas sells some of their bigger scaled 2 wheel drives for a little bit more than this model. My battery for the truck was fully charged, remote needs 4 double A batteries. If you are looking for a great rock climber with good looks and nice handling then this is your truck.
