🎶 Unleash the Beat Beneath Your Seat!
Product description Kenwood KSC-PSW8 - Compact powered 8" subwoofer Kenwood made their KSC-PSW8 powered subwoofer to deliver impressive bass in less space. This compact powered enclosure fits under the seat in most vehicles, where it produces bass response that's equal to that of a larger subwoofer in your trunk. It offers a great solution for those who want to reinforce their low-frequency punch without losing a lot of room. 150 watts + 8" sub = bass This Kenwood gives you impressive bass from a truly compact enclosure with an 8" woofer. The rigid enclosure eliminates rattles, while the durable built-in amplifier feeds the speaker 150 watts RMS. Kenwood also includes a wired remote, so you can control the bass from the driver's seat. A wiring harness and mounting brackets are also included. Connections The KSC-PSW8 comes with a single harness with power/ground/turn-on wiring and RCA input connections. The harness has 16.25' lengths of 14-gauge power wire (with an in-line 10A ATO fuse) and 18-gauge turn-on lead, plus a 5' dual 18-gauge ground wire. It also includes a 28" RCA input for connecting the subwoofer to an aftermarket stereo via RCA cables. A 14' speaker input harness is provided for connecting the sub to a factory radio (or a radio without RCA outputs). You can splice it to the head unit's speaker wires and plug it into the RCA input. An RJ-45 jack is provided on the bottom of the subwoofer for plugging in the remote control cable. Controls The only controls for the PSW8 are located on the wired remote. The rotary volume control (input sensitivity) lets you match the input of the subwoofer to the output of the head unit, and to control the volume of the sub, relative to the other speakers in the system. The rotary frequency control adjusts the cutoff frequency of the low-pass filter between 50Hz and 125Hz. If you have large main speakers (6x9 or 6-1/2") in the vehicle, you can set the subwoofer's low pass filter near the 50Hz to 80Hz range. If the main speakers are smaller (4" or 5-1/4"), the low pass filter should be set in the 100Hz to 125Hz range. Review: Big sound improvement, small package - I got this for my single cab 2001 ford ranger, hoped it would fit under seats but it was a little too big for that, fit fine along back of cab and packs a pretty good punch for the size. The remote control that came with it is also a bonus, I really like the ability to easily adjust the sub for each song/type of music. Installation was easy enough, they do give you everything you need but I did buy rca cables to run from my head unit to the sub. The ones they give you are supposed to be spliced into the speakers, didt want to do that and had a dedicated set of subwoofer rca outputs in my aftermarket head unit. Overall very happy with it. Review: Easy to install, nice punchy bass - Installed under driver seat in a 2012 Silverado hybrid. Due to the hybrid battery being under the back seat and needing to keep space in the back seat for little ones, under the driver seat was my best option. Super easy to install with the included wiring harness. Ran power from the fuse box with an add-a-fuse on the aux power outlets (instructions show getting power from the fuse box is an acceptable way to install). Used RCA cable (not included), instead of supplied line input, for input from JVC head unit so I could ditch the wired remote and set gain, LPF, and phase from the head unit. I’ve had subs in other vehicles from a single 10 to dual 12s with varying ranges of power and sound. As others have stated in reviews, if you keep your expectations of this little powered sub realistic, you’ll be quite pleased. It really fills out the low end that was lacking after replacing factory door speakers with RF prime 6.75s. Bass is punchy, which is what I was looking for. I mostly listen to rock and hard rock with a little bit of rap and pop when the whole family is in the truck and so far this little sub has not disappointed.

Speaker defective around a month after purchase.
Great sound (initially), easy installation, great kit (comes with mostly everything you would need in the box excluding tools). The reason for my 1 star review: around a month after my purchase, I began noticing a fluttering noise, at first I assumed it was just a piece of paper or a bag being moved by the sub woofer, however, this was not the case. It seems something is loose inside of the speaker. Along with that, the warranty process is not satisfactory. After one month, the seller on Amazon does not back the product, leaving us to deal with Kenwood's "authorized" repair/warranty centers (the only one I found was in California).. So, now just a couple of months after purchasing and installing, I have to uninstall it, box it up, pay to ship it from the South East to California so they can check it and either repair or replace it. Excuse me for rambling, but this is beyond frustrating. Let me end this by saying again, the kit is super convenient and easy, but beyond that, I will probably try to purchase things from local stores with a local warranty rather than Amazon.

Good for the money
To be honest, this is a good buy for the money. But if you get one, make sure to install/test it pretty quickly. My first one made a bit of a rattle/fluttering noise when it reached certain volumes or frequency ranges. Almost akin to when you pull on a spring doorstop and let it “Brbrbrbrbbrbr” lol Upon contacting the seller, they sent out a replacement the next day, which I thought was pretty awesome of them. Props to the seller for good customer service. So onto the actual unit. It’s a bit heavier than it’s size would suggest, and feels to be well put together. The outer shell is metal, not some cheap plastic, and the powdercoat paint job looks pristine with a bit of polish. It’s a sleek looking combo sub, and fits pretty well out of sight. Sound is actually pretty good! Don’t expect some mirror rattling, trunk shaking, babe stimulating bass vibrations. It’s an 8” combo sub. Keep your expectations real. I drive an 08 BMW X3, and I can hear/feel the bass in my seat and all around the cabin. It adds some really nice tone to my music, without being overpowering or overwhelming like my dual 10” Alpines used to in my M5, but it definitely keeps up in terms of power with my stereo. On to my favorite part, installation! This unit comes with a specific harness to splice into a stock radio unit, which was the major selling point for me. BMW cars are notorious for having special electronics that all tie together, and in order to add an aftermarket stereo with RCA output, i would need to basically rewrire my whole car. That doesn’t feel worth it to me. The harness included with this sub made it an easy install without having to rip out any wires or redo anything in my car. If you don’t know what you’re doing, WATCH THE YOUTUBE TUTORIALS! There are plenty and they explain every step in better detail than you’ll find in the Q&A section here or in the Kenwood owners manual. All in all, this thing was a good buy for a $200 sub. I do recommend it, especially for those who are running stock stereos without RCA.

Fits in under seat tray in JKU Wrangler
I run this in an under seat bracket in my JKU Wrangler and it works well as filler bass but not really as a deep bass sub. If you're realistic about your expectations, it works just fine. If you're looking for "two 12s in the trunk" bass... you'll be disappointed. I have a modern Kenwood Excelon head unit, 2 kicker tweeters and 4 of the Kicker Mopar 6.5" speakers (being fed by a marine Kenwood 600w amp) along with this powered sub and I have gotten the sound to be "pretty good" and that's the best I had hoped for in a Wrangler. The wiring is "adequate" for basic installation and there's enough power wire length to run to the battery from the driver's side seat area on the JK. Make sure to order a set of male to male RCA cables if you plan to use your aftermarket stereo headunit preouts. If you're looking to maintain as much room as possible in your JKU but need some low frequency fill for your music then grab an under seat rack (to keep the sub off the floor in case of water intrusion) from eBay and mount one of these in it.

Good base for a mature sound stage. Set output to about 45% max output.
Gret for DIY or for shop to install for you. The harderst part was finding and getting to the firewall on my vehicle, but that is verhicle specific. For the 12v line I needed to crimp on a terminal attachment to connect to the battery - I used a spade type but a ring type would work too. I used factory head unit and did not require a line output converter. I used velcro to secure the unit to carpet under passenger seat. I used two runs of quater inch split wire looming to hide the colorful wires that ran under the carpet - you could use half inch but it might be too bulky. All wires ran under passenger side trim. I used one inch foam to level the unit becaues half of it is sitting on an air vent. Ascetically it looks clean with minimal design accents. It is a solid aluminum box with a rubberized matt finish coating. It took me about 6 hours total to figure out if this thing fit, how to wire it to my head unit, and how to temporarily remove the car components to complete install. I used T-splicers for radio (kit with 12-22 guage). Crimping tool for T-splicers and spade terminal attachment. Wire stripping tool to strip the car batter wire, audio wires, and ignition switch wire. Scissors to cut the split loom. Panel removal tools. Wratchet set - for my vehicle I used 1/4'' ratchet, 8mm & 10mm sockets and a 8in extension. Screwdriver for the small screws that secure the wire harness to the subwoofer. Velcro, unless you plan to drill through your floor panels. Toyota highlander xle, without JBL, 2014.

Very power efficient for EV at 10 amps, good control and boom, until blown in freezing temps.
UPDATE 01/31/2024 - BLOWN speaker. Purchased and installed professionally in summer of June of 2023, not even a year. We recently had a winter freeze storm with temperatures down into the low 20s F which is cold for our area. The subwoofer did not survive the changing of temperatures from freezing cold back to warmer 40-50º F. I believe the metal ring or coils that move around the speaker magnet contracted and expanded too much during the weather changes and now cause the sub to constantly rattle and pop, even at low volume. You can still crank up the volume, so the amp is fine, but the speaker is bunk. Bummer. Was pretty decent until after the storm. Contacted Kenwood to see what they'll do since it hasn't even been a year. May have to try Kicker, JBL or Blaupunkt compact subs which only draw to a max of 15 amps, which should still be okay for an EV without messing up the sensitive electronics. Bummer no one else except Alpine have remotes with more than just volume control. Audio constantly needs to be tuned for different types of music and volume often isn't enough. --- Previous Review --- I recently bought a new 2023 EV - Unfortunately the base model doesn't come with the upgraded Harmon Kardon audio with subwoofer, which actually sounded fantastic. I figured I could just upgrade the audio myself. With all these new cars having highly integrated consoles it's not easy to just swap out components like the old days. The stereo is often linked to the HVAC, system operations, maps, sensors, warnings... etc. Swapping speakers is fairly easy but with EVs you have to be careful to not change the power consumption or you might start getting system errors or void the warranty, noise cancellation integration can also cause issues if you tap into the speaker wires with a sub. I wanted a compact powered sub because the stock audio had very little low-end bass. By adding a sub you can often tune the door speakers for mid-bass through treble frequencies without having to also upgrade those speakers. Adding the Kenwood sub definitely made a huge improvement in audio quality and headroom. I'm not going to win any audio competitions or rattle the coffee cup off my neighbors table, but it does add a good thump to the interior and is noticeable outside the vehicle. I do wish it had a little more power or came in a 10" inch version instead of 8" just to give it a little more bandwidth room, but oh well. Rockford Fosgate also makes an 8" inch powered sub at 10 amps, but it costs a bit more. I previously had an 8" Alpine powered sub with DSP that cost 3X's as much as the Kenwood and it didn't really sound that much better. One of the biggest selling points for me was that the Kenwood audio remote has more than just bass volume control like most, so on the fly adjustments are easy, versus having to get in and out of the car to try to tune the amp... what a hassle, especially since audio changes from song to song. I wanted to install the sub under the passenger seat but regardless of being compact it still wouldn't fit, too many wires under both front seats plus a floor vent under the drivers, so I had it installed loosely in the trunk on a wooden board so I can move it around. I may still upgrade the door speakers, but for now just by adding the sub it is no longer a priority. PROS: - Kenwood brand name, some of my best audio with past cars has been using Kenwood components. - Remote control audio adjustment is more than just a bass knob, also frequency cut-off and phase. - EV compatible: Very efficient power draw at only 10 amps max, you could actually run it off a 12 volt power source as most are rated at 10 amps. Not very many amps or powered subs that run at 10 off 10 amps at 12 volts. - Compact sealed construction, heavy and firm, doesn't feel cheap. - Adds a nice bit of extra boom and audible headroom, helps take the strain off pushing bass through the stock door speakers. - Remote has blue LED to let you know it's on and powers off through the remote sensing wire, sub has no LED. - Well priced. - Easy mounting brackets. - Accepts hi-level speaker wire audio input and line-level. - Runs cool, even in hot weather. No over-heating issues, doesn't even get warm in summer weather. CONS: - Could use another 25-50 watts of audio power. - Does struggle a little with certain super low frequencies if running at full volume. - Would be great if there was a 10" inch version. - Non removable grill (in the event a bunch of particles or dirt end up getting stuck inside). - No active LED on the sub enclosure itself to let you know if it's on or off. - UPDATE 02/2024: Does not like cold freezing weather, coils may contract or expand and blow you subwoofer out.

Oh My.....Nice Upgrade
Significant upgrade from factory setup in a Toyota 4runner. I have an aftermarket head unit which i would consider pretty mandatory as you are going to want to set the crossovers for your speakers and subwoofer after you get it installed. I purchased the little brother Kenwood KSC-SW11 first and was less than pleased. After finding out on another review the Kenwood KSC-PSW8 uses the same harness/cables I swapped it out and was blown away. The PSW8 is a significant step up from the SW11 in both quality, sound, range, and power level. Do not skimp out on anything smaller or of lesser quality, this is perfect and what I would consider the bare minimum for a "subwoofer". It is perfect for those listening to music without trying to shake their neighbors cars or neighborhood. Do note, it is quite a bit bigger than some of the other "underseat" powered subwoofers that will fit between the rails in a perpendicular position. I had to run it parallel between the seat rails and over the floor vents.

Fantastic quality
Easy to fit. Makes a world of difference to the sound of my Kenwood stereo. When connected to the sub out there is quite a few settings to do on the head unit but worth setting up fully. Would recommend.

Easy installation
Bought this to round out the stereo system in my sons car. Shipping was very fast. Installation was easy. The only part that wasn’t included was a red/white RCA to link the head unit to the amp. No big deal. The sub itself? Very impressive. Clear sounding. Really fills out the bottom end. I Used to work at a car dealership and always checked out the stereos in the new models. This sub sounds better than the vast majority of upgraded Bose sound systems.

Sehr gut, bin sehr zufrieden
