How much? £350! Shurely shome mishtake...
These Mission QX2 loudspeakers have been on my radar for a while now. I'm always tinkering around with ancient hi-fi components and decided to bring an old amp and CD player back to life, but I needed a match for my Mission amplifier... enter the Mission QX2. I have a Mission Cyrus 2 amplifier and PSX power supply that haven't been used since 1998 and a Marantz CD85 CD player - battleship build quality - that's been in retirement for more years than I care to remember. Anyway, I connected the new loudspeakers to the geriatric - but mint condition! - amplifier and CD player, sat back and enjoyed the music - mostly classical - and experienced real high-fidelity sound from the little Missions. The sound quality is absolutely superb with surprising weight in the bass and naturalness in the midrange with crystal clear treble. The Mission QX2 loudspeakers offer a level of performance way beyond expectations given the asking price... the build quality is excellent and you'd need to spend more - a lot more! - to find a pair of loudspeakers that can outperform these new Missions. The loudspeakers look and sound a million dollars, but can be yours for under £400! Purchase without delay...

Good speaker
Quality audio sound has always been very important to me. This does not necessarily mean hifi and to distinguish each instrument from what you hear. For me it's more about good rhythm and sound. I am not saying this is a bad hifi speaker but my message is that this is a great speaker to listen and enjoy music. I have demonstrated many top hifi reward winning speaker like LS50 which have really been a big disappointment, given their price. The closest so far has came B&W 685s2 (but big and not so nice compared to this speaker) and Neat sx3 (but 5x the price). This speaker is a compact speaker with a warm nice sound. It provides a good amount of bass for it's size and it's accurate enough for a hifi person like me. Furthermore, it's a good all-around speaker when it comes listening to different music. I am finally happy to find the right speaker for price, style, size and sound. I currently own other speakers like: Ruark Audio MR1 Mk2 and Sonos1 and honestly speaking this wins them all.. my opinion.

Excellent performers
I bought these to replace my expired Delta 70's, at first I was a bit underwhelmed by their size and a little by their appearance, but I shouldn't have worried, paired with a Yamaha AS701 amp, they give a crystal clear sound, rarely recordings can be a bit bright , but the bass is surprisingly solid, which is good as heavier metal on vinyl is my thing. One thing I did notice is speaker height to listeners ear level, these need to be similar to get the best sound. Since I usually am standing, a pair of Atacama Moseco 7 stands, filled with Kiln dried sand, made a real positive difference.

Value for money
The Mission QX1I was looking for a small speaker (for a 3m x 4m bedroom) that I could consider high fidelity. The Missions did not disappoint. After a warm up period and after a burn in period, the drive units may or may not improve significantly depending on your point of view. However you should also consider the burn in time for the crossover electronics e.g. the capacitors. Well I'm using a Primaluna Prologue Four which is a valve (tube) power amp producing 30 watts/per channel which proved to be more than enough to drive these speaker to a high listening level. I have these mounted on speaker stands which I find benefits the sound quality.

Big but good
The colour (walnut pearl) fits perfectly in with my bedroom style. Picked up the mission stancettes in silver as well and the combination looks fantastic. Although these are called bookshelf speakers, I would argue that you need a solid large shelf to contain these.Tried different cables and you need price of around £6/metre to drive the speakers (my old ixos cable was the best but I don't have consistent colours and lengths). I tried cheaper cable and you could tell the difference which suggests the speakers are very sensitive. At just under £300 they are expensive but I will keep them probably for about 15 years like my old mission M71i

Just Buy Them
I admit I prevaricated between these and the QX-1s, but I knew in the back of my mind I would always have wondered what might have been. Speakers were ordered on Weds and arrived safe and sound on Fri. Box is indeed heavy and the speakers themselves have a satisfying heft and solid construction. Mine sit on matching Mission Stancette stands so should together, save my life if the ceiling ever falls in. They are matched with a Denon amp and QED cables. Unlike my previous speakers (MS 202) which needed connectors these have smaller holes in the posts for a bare wire connection. I tried them out first with a soft track (Angel - Sarah McClachlan) then a rockier one (Little Black Submarines - The Black Keys). Sound was very clear and crisp and am sure will improve after a bedding in period. The only wrinkle is the wife doesn't like the look, specifically the aluminium plate on the top. But then what does she know. If you want performance at a great price and don't mind the aesthetics - BUY THEM!

Crystal Clear Sound
The media could not be loaded. Very clear sounding with rich treble and enough bass for this size but ill still recommend a sub like all other bookshelf speakers. However they are pretty big if that's an issue with some people but other than that the bigger the better. I love how mission design speakers really modern looking. Very well built solid all round. You do hear a bit of port noise when too close to the walls but I pulled mine away to annoy the wife. Other than that these are by far the best speakers money can buy at this price range highly recommended.
