Once assembled (with larger washers that don't pull through the material), the bird spider doesn't readily sit upright and I had to modify the base of the bird spider to make it useable. The idea of the sandbag should be that it can sit on an uneven boat canopy for example but it's completely ineffective on anything but a flat surface. In that instance you might as well use a plank.
