RECOACTIV Renaltan Tonic for cats, 3 x 90 ml, dietary supplement with phosphate binder to reduce the phosphate content of food for animals with renal insufficiency or CRI

I don't often leave reviews, but I wanted to write this in the hope that it helps another cat owner who is in the same heartbreaking position we were. Our 17-year-old cat became incredibly ill. She lost a huge amount of weight, stopped eating properly, was vomiting, had terrible diarrhoea, drank excessively, and became very withdrawn. We took her to the vet, who prescribed anti-nausea medication, gabapentin and appetite stimulants. Sadly, after starting these medications, she seemed to decline even more rapidly. At one point, we genuinely thought we were at the end of her life and even discussed euthanasia with our vet. We had already been giving Recoactiv for a while and had seen some improvement, but she disliked the taste when it was mixed into her food. Looking back, I think adding it to her meals actually made her even less willing to eat. She had been fed high-quality KatKin food for years, which is very high in protein. With kidney disease, we realised this may not have been helping because of the phosphorus content, which can make cats feel very unwell. and she won’t eat specialist kidney diet food. Then we decided to try something different. I bought a syringe and started giving the recommended amount of Recoactiv directly into the side of her mouth twice a day, morning and evening, instead of mixing it into her food. At first we gave it three times a day, but that stressed her out too much, so twice daily works much better. We wrap her gently in a blanket, syringe it into the side of her mouth, and it's over in seconds. The turnaround has honestly been nothing short of miraculous. Her appetite has returned massively, and she's constantly asking for food now. Rather than worrying about feeding the "perfect" diet, we've switched to supermarket foods like Sheba and Felix because the most important thing is that she's eating. We've also recently started using a liquid phosphorus binder alongside the Recoactiv in the syringe, although it's too early to comment on that. Today she is gaining weight, her coat looks healthier, she's outside enjoying herself again, she wants attention, her diarrhoea has gone, she's no longer vomiting, and she isn't drinking excessively anymore. She honestly looks like a normal elderly cat again. Of course, every cat is different and I can't say this will work for everyone, but for us Recoactiv has been an absolute lifesaver. If your cat refuses to eat it mixed into food, don't give up. Syringing it gently into the mouth twice a day made all the difference for us.

I started my 19.5 yr old cat with kidney disease on this 2 weeks ago, he had some bloods done in November which showed stage 2. The vet called today with urine results and said he is more like stage 1 based on those results, he can't believe how good the results show. I have noticed an improvement in my cat in terms of his breath is far less amonia like. I have not changed his food yet, but will move to a renal diet now to help maintain the improvement. This tonic has helped him eat and drink better too, he had some minor weight loss but has put that back on and his coat is in a very healthy condition. I will continue to use this in conjunction with Ipakitine (as cheaper than pronefra) and my vet is happy with this. I will give my cat some non renal treat food once in a while as this seems to be doing such a great job. At 19 years, he won't last forever and deserves a little treat now and again!

This worked wonders for my old lady cat of 19 yrs. She took to it straight away and looked forward to this even when she was off her regular renal food. I saw a difference in her coat too, with less moulting and became better condition. 4 stars given as a bit pricey but overall great product for Elderly fussy cat with renal problems. Bought this a few times to keep her going but unfortunately she had seizures after using a flea preventative spot on and we no longer have her with us. I would highly recommend this product and even though pricey definitely improved the quality of life for my cherished old lady cat.

My cat generally refuses specific kidney food, so I have been mixing this with ordinary cat food.

Good service and great product. The tonic really assisted our elderly feline friend. He chose this cat elixir himself, can’t get a better review than that!

My cat was diagnosed in November with Stage 4 kidney disease. I read about phosphate binders and decided to try this one after reading reviews. I had his bloodwork redone in January and his numbers had come down quite a lot. I'm not completely sure it was the Renaltan Tonic that did it or the renal diet he is on or a combination of both. I have purchased again and hope I get the same results.

Je ne donne pas le produit depuis longtemps mais le chat a déjà le regard plus vif, il mange mieux, il demande à sortir se promener. Il est Rénal stade 2. La vétérinaire ne donnait comme traitement que la nourriture rénal. En plus du problème rénal, il est fiv (sida du chat) et souffre de coriza chronique. Plus facile à donner que d autres produits à donner à la seringue à écraser qu'il fallait lui donner de force. Ici je mélange le produit à de l hydra care et il le lape durant la journée sans même s'en rendre compte jusque la dernière goute.

Ältere Katzen neigen leider zu Nierenerkrankungen. Meine Lieblingskatze hat leider schon seit geraumer Zeit Probleme mit den Nieren, weswegen ich hier besonders vorsichtig bin. Als ich vor einiger Zeit dann bemerkte, dass sie ein struppiges Fell bekam und begann teilnahmsloser zu werden und urämisch zu riechen (ein ganz eigener Geruch, den ich auch von Menschen mit eingeschränkter Nierenfunktion und unserem alten Kater kenne), war klar, dass etwas getan werden muss. Grundsätzlich: Ich rate jedem, der sich damit nicht wirklich einigermaßen auskennt, unbedingt, einen Tierarzt hinzuzuziehen und nicht selbst mit der Katze zu experimentieren! In unserem Fall ist es so, dass ich die Problematik bei dieser Katze bereits kenne, selber aus einem medizinischen Beruf komme und weiß, wo meine Grenzen liegen. Prinzipiell ist es so, dass bei einer beginnenenden Einschränkung der Nierenfunktion bei Katzen eine Futterumstellung erfolgen und vor allem Phosphat in der Nahrung reduziert werden muss. Meine Frau hatte bereits Gutes über Recoactiv Nierentonikum gehört und so starteten wir einen Versuch. Zur Dosierung empfiehlt es sich, eine Spritze zu benutzen (gibt's für ein paar Cent ind der Apotheke). Die Dosierung mit Deckel ist doch etwas ungenau und fummelig. Die Flüssigkeit wird unter deas Futter gemischt und dann beginnt der spannenden Teil: Wird Majestät (ohnehin schon mäkelig bei Futter und als bekennender Trockenfutterjunkie gegenüber Nassfutter eher skeptisch eingestellt) das Zeug überhaupt zu sich nehmen. Kurz gesagt: Ja tut sie. Sogar mit Begeisterung. Auch unsere beiden anderen Stubentiger haben sich dann über die Reste hergemacht. Offenbar schmeckt das Zeug recht gut. Allerdings weiß die erfahrene Katzenbedieneinheit, dass man das nicht generalisieren kann. Aber zumindest bei unseren Dreien funktioniert das sehr gut. Kurze Zeit, nachdem wir angefangen hatten, das Renaltan zu verfüttern, besserte sich auch der Zustand der Katze: Sie wurde wieder aktiver, das Fell deutlich flauschiger und vor allem roch sie nicht mehr urämisch (und um Diskussionen vorzubeugen: Auch unser Tierarzt wollte mir nicht glauben, dass ich das rieche - bis er bei unserem alten Kater die Nierenwerte sah und zugeben musste, dass mein "diagnostischer Riecher" hier tatsächlich gut ausgeprägt ist). Seitdem füttern wir das Renaltan regelmäßig alle paar Wochen als Kur. Im Moment tunen wir noch ein wenig an den Abständen herum, aber es ist schon jetzt deutlich, dass in den Pausen (in denen die Katze lediglich Nierenspezielfutter bekomt), das Fell dazu neigt, etwas struppiger zu werden. Insgesamt geht es ihr aber deutlich besser und wir sind guter Hoffnung, dass unsere Seniorin uns noch einige Zeit gesund erhalten bleibt. Und: Ja, Renaltan ist sicher kein billiger Spaß. Im Vergleich zu Tierarztkosten und vor allem einem leidenden Tier ist es aber meiner Ansicht nach das Geld absolut wert. Und im Gegensatz zu vielem Schnick-Schnack, den es auf dem Haustiermarkt so gibt, ist das eine wirklich sinnvolle Investition.
