I've used a few different videos on Youtube to support his journey and he's really picking it up quickly. The overall sound and quality are great on these, especially for the price. I did take a little piece of sandpaper to the finger holes to make them a little more comfortable to hold. The rims are made of a very sturdy plastic. The tambourine with the cover on it (I am not familiar with appropriate tambourine terminology) is also very sturdy. They both make great noise. I got this for my 2yo instrument loving kid and he has not broken it so far. He has broken all of his "kid" tambourines so this one is way better for kids. I expected them to be small and tinny, more like a child's toy than a useable musical instrument. However, they are really quite awesome, especially for the price. The open one is full sized, and has a good mid-range sound...not tinny at all. The other one has a skin or head on it, which allows you to hit it with a drumstick for a drum-like sound; and it also has the bells for tambourine/cymbal sounds. These are a perfect accompaniment to your acoustic guitar jam sessions.
