Plasti Dip VLP Vinyl & Leather Repair Adhesive, 1 fl oz, Clear High-Strength Air-Dry Formula for Vinyl Furniture, Leather, Awnings, Tarps, Luggage, Rainwear, Boots & Flexible Material Repairs

Bought to fix a 1/2 inch rip on a leather black seat. Left it over night and by the next day I checked it and it was dry and left a gloss color that you can barely see.

Product is of a thin consistency and comes out of tube with minimal pressure. Be careful when applying or you’ll end up with more product then you expected. The product dries pretty quickly (30 min. ?). The used this product to seal a crack in a automotive padded vinyl armrest. The VLP dries to form a clear but shiny patch over the crack. A little dupli-color vinyl spray paint took care of the shine. There is still a dimple where the repair is. I’ve filled the dimple with a paintable latex caulk and will paint once that drys. I expect the repair will be difficult to see once finished. Also repaired hole about the size of a quarter in the seat bolster. While not perfect, it’s a lot better than a hole. I stuffed the hole with a piece of black leather and coated it VLP. I like this stuff! Again, not perfect but what it does, it does very well!

I bought this vinyl and leather repair adhesive for one specific purpose, and it did that job very well. I have not yet tried it on anything else. I noticed a fine cut or split a couple of inches long in the soft-touch vinyl covering on my car's center console. I wanted to stop it from growing or widening. I was skeptical of products that claim to repair cuts so completely that they disappear, especially when the damage is on a flat-black console cover in plain sight. I assumed that achieving an invisible repair would require considerable work and that, even when finished, the repair would probably remain obvious. The damage wasn't serious enough for me to consider replacing the console cover. At the same time, because it is right on top of the console and plainly visible, I didn't want to cover it with a piece of the leather repair tape I had previously used successfully in a more concealed location. What I wanted was a reasonably priced, easy-to-use product that would simply freeze the damage in place and keep it from getting worse. This Plasti Dip adhesive accomplished exactly that. I applied a thin bead of adhesive along the length of the cut, and it has remained unchanged for several months. There has been no sign of the cut spreading or widening. The repair is by no means invisible, but neither is it particularly obvious. The cut is still there, but it simply looks like a minor blemish from normal wear and tear. That doesn't bother me; my car is no longer new. In fact, that is exactly the result I was looking for. I gave this product four stars because it performed its intended job very well. I have not yet tried it on other materials or for other types of repairs, so I don't feel qualified to give it five stars based on a single application. However, it appears to be a tough product that bonds quickly and firmly to vinyl, leather, and plastic surfaces, and I expect it will prove useful for other repairs as well.

Worked like a charm on the little hole and tears on the seat cushion of my leather couch, recommended highly. It does leave behind a shiny clear finish, so it will show up/be visible after application, especially on matte surfaces. I have found this to be a faster, easier, cheaper, and just as effective as Super Glue, in all general purpose situations calling for a quick and strong glue job. I'm on my third tube now, and found that one of the highest and best uses of this material to be all types of shoe repairs on leather and synthetic uppers, and best of all at fixing and sealing separating rubber and cork soles in boots, shoes, and sandals. Just use as you would any adhesive, (I formerly used shoe goo, which is difficult to work with and not as durable as VLP, and Gorilla Glue, which bonds well but dries to a beige color and expands 3X while drying) clamping or strapping the item shut/closed where you want it to end up during the drying process, and you will be very pleased with your results.

UPDATED - unfortunately I do not suggest using this product for seat repair or applications where the item will be subject to lots of use/movement. The product becomes brittle and cracks again though the edges appear to stay bonded. The cracks started to happen after the first season of use...this update is much later than original post. It still can be a viable fix for other applications. ORIGINAL - Good stuff! Worked as described. I used fiberglass mat + VLP glue to repair my riding lawnmower seat. Use sharp scissors on the fiberglass mat and be gentle w/ the cut pieces to minimize it's edges from separating/fraying. IMPORTANT: VLP sets up quickly, so preparing your surface and plan of action for application is important for best results. APPLICATION PROCESS I USED FOR REPAIRING VINYL SEAT 1. Cleaned up tear edges using a razor blade since the final repair would be covered by fiberglass cloth 2. Cut small circular section of vinyl at the ends of each tear to help mitigate the crack's progression. A paper hole punch may do the trick if you can get it under the vinyl. I used the tip of the utility razor blade to make approximately 1/8" diameter cuts. The key is to ensure it's a continuous cut to not allow another rip to start. 3. Cut fiberglass mat to match tears leaving 1/2-1" margin on each side of tear 4. Apply VLP to seat tear area using Popsicle stick including glue to cover the area covered by the mat 5. Apply fiberglass mat to area quickly and work into the VLP glue w/ popsicle stick while adding a top coat of VLP. Be sure to cover the edges of the mat completely with VLP. 6. Pull off any straggler pieces of fiberglass mat to ensure a smooth finish. Be mindful of the length of the fiberglass pieces you pull so as not to make the fraying worse. Adding more VLP may be a better option to get the fiberglass to lay down in some instances. 6. Let dry for specified amount of time Best of luck.

I used this to repair cracks on my RV roll out awning. It softens up the vinyl to k make it sticky enough to mend back together I added a layer of vinyl tape with this to bond together for extra strength. Worked really well

Works good but really stinks, the fumes might hurt you so make sure you only use this outside. The product is very good, but the tube sucks. Very hard to control the flow, at times it may spit out way too much and get everywhere. It has a very thin consistency, so it will run on vertical surfaces. Dries very fast, within seconds, so you dont have very much work time and have to apply it fast. Maybe package it in a syringe type so you can see the flow of the glue? I used it to patch holes, some pretty bad and large damage on a vinyl upholstered engine cover boat box. Sanded down some spots that needed it and sprayed vinyl paint directly on top, worked well like the holes were never there. Vinyl cushion looks new again!

I had a baby finger hole in the seat. This as you can see fixed it perfectly. I’ve not tried it in the cold yet but so far looks like a perfect fast fix. Leave it for 2 hours and it’s mint

Works better than any other glue I found purporting to work with vinyl. Need more time to see how it stands up to weather over time.

Used for an XL towable tube. Worked very well, both to close a small hole and to patch a large tear (we cut patches from another tube). It was a bit difficult to spread on the larger patches but cures very strong.
