The packaging is just like a ziploc bag type rather than a cardboard box. No effect on the product itself. I have 2 and one from each type of packaging and both are the same.

What type of markers have the best result?

Sharpie Neon are awesome. Water based crayons markers work good and water based highlighters are super cool. Metallic markers and even crayons work!

I haven't found a trick. I just keep a straw handy for when my son wants to play with it. Otherwise, this ball would be perfect, especially in the cold months!

It is lighter than a beach ball. Kids can really slam it and it doesn’t damage anything. Some how it doesn’t fly straight as with a regular ball. It is unpredictable where it goes. Used ours for several years.
