My Neighbor Totoro - Totoro in Log, Paper Theater Craft

I very much enjoyed this craft and the final product is super cute. I found super glue worked really well in securing the pieces all together. It was pretty simple to understand the instructions and I was able to finish the craft in one siting which is great considering all the tiny parts. A scalpel knife is almost essential to separate all the pieces and a few other paper craft tools like tweezers really helped in getting things placed correctly. Paper was really good quality and the final products seems solid once I glued the different layers together.

Not sure how this will turn out because it was a gift, but the design is really sweet and think it will be a fun little project during college break. Note, you will need to separately buy a little craft knife, glue that will be compatible with the paper, and tweezers.

This is a fun little kit to put together. It has a number of tiny paperboard parts, is rather fragile, and is tricky to assemble, so it's probably not a good choice for kids. You'll need a very sharp, fine bladed knife to separate the tiny paperboard parts from their sheets. And some clear glue to attach them to the larger parts. Applying the glue with a toothpick tip seemed to work well. Tweezers and a gooseneck magnifying glass were needed for placing the tiniest parts. The final assembly steps involve taking the 6 frames and putting them onto 6 spacer bars at right angles, using slots in the frames and bars to align and hold everything together. The slots are surprisingly loose, making assembly quite tricky. I found it easiest to put in the two bars on one side of the frames, prop everything up in the correct alignment, glue the joints between the frames and bars, then add more bars after the glue dried. The included instructions are detailed with good graphics, though a couple of steps involving placing multiple layers on top of each other to build the cookie jar and the large Totoro were confusing. The resulting "3D" diorama is cute and nice to look at. Overall, a fun and surprisingly challenging kit to put together, and a nice addition to your Totoro collection. Highly recommended.
