## Description

The Woman in Me is a brave and astonishingly moving story about freedom, fame, motherhood, survival, faith, and hope. In June 2021, the whole world was listening as Britney Spears spoke in open court. The impact of sharing her voice—her truth—was undeniable, and it changed the course of her life and the lives of countless others. The Woman in Me reveals for the first time her incredible journey—and the strength at the core of one of the greatest performers in pop music history. Written with remarkable candour and humour, Spears’s ground-breaking book illuminates the enduring power of music and love—and the importance of a woman telling her own story, on her own terms, at last. ____________________________________ 'The sharpness of her perspective is a miracle... May her truth pose a legitimate threat to the system that exploited her' - Guardian 'Britney Spears holds nothing back in her short, bittersweet and extremely powerful memoir… That it hasn’t turned into a complete tragedy is a testament to Spears’s essential fortitude of spirit – something that burns off these pages' - Telegraph 'Spears’s prose contains more compassion and perspective than bitterness or self-pity' - The Times 'It’s nearly impossible to come out of it without empathy for and real outrage on behalf of Spears, whose admitted bitterness over the dire circumstances of the last decade-plus of her life is tempered by an enduring, insistent optimism' - New York Times

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ An insight into an iconic star
*by E***L on 27 November 2023*

This book was one of the most hyped releases of 2023, Britney Spears is one of the most talked about celebrities of the last 20 years and as a result so much had already been said about this book before it was released. Britney is iconic especially to my generation who were teenagers in the early 2000's, the Madonna of my generation and from the outside a perfect pop princess who could do no wrong and seemingly had it all and was achieving all of her dreams but within a few years it all appeared to be unravelling. As we all know she was placed in a conservatorship and very little was revealed about Britney from there on. However as time has progressed it appeared that things weren't as they seemed and I was very interested in reading Britney's version of events. Whether everything written in this book is true or not we/I will never know but it is Britney's side of the story. It is clear that Britney had a lot of input in to the writing of the book as the writing style and tone are very similar to the way Britney spoke and wrote during her peak. Before reading I expected the book to be a one-sided rant about those who Britney feels have wronged her but I was pleasantly surprised to find it was more of a balanced look at those close to her, for example she starts out by explaining her Father's childhood and background and relaying how this may have impacted his own parenting methods, general behaviour and alcohol addiction. The main thing that stood out to me whilst reading the book was how childlike she is and always has been in her behaviour and thought processes such as when she got married in Las Vegas for 48hours and she admits that she wasn't in love and knew it wouldn't last but couldn't understand why her parents and team were outraged by it. She seems oblivious to the fact she was a multi-millionaire who had potentially just signed over 50% of her money away with no pre-nuptial agreement. Obviously at the time of doing this she was an adult and old enough to do as she pleased and maybe it could be argued that she should have been left to do as she pleased and to see the consequences of her actions but there are times when she seems to view things as "controlling" when I think that sometimes people were trying to protect her. I couldn't help but feel for her as her behaviour and actions continued to be very child-like, she has been treated badly by several people in her life but she also seems to lack the emotional maturity to deal with some situations probably due to being a star from such a young age. I kept getting reminders of Michael Jackson's inability to properly grow up whilst reading. The book lacks any depth, it is very surface level but I wasn't really expecting a massive tell-all book as it was obvious that lawyers would have been all over it. I also think large chunks of time were skimmed over. I'm not going to say much on the conservatorship as I think a lot has been said on it and I got the impression that there were a lot of things left out in the book. However this is Britney's version of the story so I'm sure she has said what she wanted to say. If nothing else this book does give an insight into Britney's current life and gives insight in to her more recent presence on Instagram. I hope that Britney finds the happiness she deserves.
