The Woman in Me is a brave and astonishingly moving story about freedom, fame, motherhood, survival, faith, and hope. In June 2021, the whole world was listening as Britney Spears spoke in open court. The impact of sharing her voice—her truth—was undeniable, and it changed the course of her life and the lives of countless others. The Woman in Me reveals for the first time her incredible journey—and the strength at the core of one of the greatest performers in pop music history. Written with remarkable candour and humour, Spears’s ground-breaking book illuminates the enduring power of music and love—and the importance of a woman telling her own story, on her own terms, at last. ____________________________________ 'The sharpness of her perspective is a miracle... An insight into an iconic star
This book was one of the most hyped releases of 2023, Britney Spears is one of the most talked about celebrities of the last 20 years and as a result so much had already been said about this book before it was released. Britney is iconic especially to my generation who were teenagers in the early 2000's, the Madonna of my generation and from the outside a perfect pop princess who could do no wrong and seemingly had it all and was achieving all of her dreams but within a few years it all appeared to be unravelling. As we all know she was placed in a conservatorship and very little was revealed about Britney from there on. However as time has progressed it appeared that things weren't as they seemed and I was very interested in reading Britney's version of events. Whether everything written in this book is true or not we/I will never know but it is Britney's side of the story. It is clear that Britney had a lot of input in to the writing of the book as the writing style and tone are very similar to the way Britney spoke and wrote during her peak. Before reading I expected the book to be a one-sided rant about those who Britney feels have wronged her but I was pleasantly surprised to find it was more of a balanced look at those close to her, for example she starts out by explaining her Father's childhood and background and relaying how this may have impacted his own parenting methods, general behaviour and alcohol addiction. The main thing that stood out to me whilst reading the book was how childlike she is and always has been in her behaviour and thought processes such as when she got married in Las Vegas for 48hours and she admits that she wasn't in love and knew it wouldn't last but couldn't understand why her parents and team were outraged by it. She seems oblivious to the fact she was a multi-millionaire who had potentially just signed over 50% of her money away with no pre-nuptial agreement. Obviously at the time of doing this she was an adult and old enough to do as she pleased and maybe it could be argued that she should have been left to do as she pleased and to see the consequences of her actions but there are times when she seems to view things as "controlling" when I think that sometimes people were trying to protect her. I couldn't help but feel for her as her behaviour and actions continued to be very child-like, she has been treated badly by several people in her life but she also seems to lack the emotional maturity to deal with some situations probably due to being a star from such a young age. I kept getting reminders of Michael Jackson's inability to properly grow up whilst reading. The book lacks any depth, it is very surface level but I wasn't really expecting a massive tell-all book as it was obvious that lawyers would have been all over it. I also think large chunks of time were skimmed over. I'm not going to say much on the conservatorship as I think a lot has been said on it and I got the impression that there were a lot of things left out in the book. However this is Britney's version of the story so I'm sure she has said what she wanted to say. If nothing else this book does give an insight into Britney's current life and gives insight in to her more recent presence on Instagram. I hope that Britney finds the happiness she deserves.

Just wow.
What a beautiful book. This book gives you an insight into the mistreatment Britney Spears faced in the 2000s. It’s such a gorgeous book and it couldn’t have been portrayed any better. It covers topics such as sexism, abuse of the law, difference in standards of men and women, insanity of paparazzi, love (and betrayal), society, and overall unjustness. But it’s important to think of these, not as topics, but as genuine experiences that Britney Spears faced and had to deal with. It truly does make you feel angry at how unjust and unlawful it all was. It’s hard to describe it without saying too much, but please read the book. It gives you such an insight into everything that was going on in the music industry in the 2000s. The way the book was written felt so human. Like as if somebody were talking to you, describing the experiences (and feelings) from memory, not as if each sentence were analysed and crafted using perfect wording and literature. It feels so human and I love that about it. It really helps to send the message across that these were a real experiences that happened to a real person, and prevents you from reading the book as if it were fiction. I really love how it’s written so much. It’s the words of a hurt person, not a made up character, and even if you get lost into the stories of book, you won’t for a second mistake it for a fiction.

Worth the read, but...
I felt the book was rather lackluster. There has been so much hype to the details laid bare and confessions of britneys secret struggles yet there was very little detail in these confessions She talked about her 2 kids alot and how they were her life but yet she gave up fighting for them so easily I felt when they were younger. I mean no parent can actually take children from their mother and withhold them for no reason so I was a bit confused how KFED got away with that. Essentially its a story of a teenager rebelling against everyone that tried to restrain her. And my work her family definitely tried to do that in abundance. Most of the book was around her conservatorship and the radical decision her father made to make her appear insane all so he could get his hands on her money. Knowing all this, who can blame Britney for being the way she is now. She shows in her book just how resilient and strong she is at overcoming such hurdles and I understand why she wanted to speak out and set the record straight.

The woman in me
Super quick read but that's not to say it was disappointing. Very straight forward from childhood up till the moment she was finally free from her family. At times written without any emotions but that is absolutely fine I think to be able to write it she had to turn her emotions off to protect herself from trauma. I really do think her family should face justice for what they did to her. Now I do not follow Britney on Instagram and I am not exactly a fan but I was when I was young and obviously it was impossible not to follow her life as you could read about her life in every single magazine. My thought after reading the book was one: yes she shaved her head yes he locked herself in the bathroom with her children and didn't want to give boys back to Kevin, but she was young and heartbroken it is called desperation and depression she needed a help and support this is not what she got, no doubt what her family has put her through left a permanent mark on her mental well being - impossible not to. What is even more unbelievable is that her family was allowed to do it and the law was on their side for 13 years. All I can say it is worth the read I have finished the book in 1 day it is super easy read. Just a bit of a warning it can leave you very angry with her family and people who were around her, as well as were sad for her. All the best Brit hope you will find your peace.

Freedom
I cried, I laughed. And read it in half a day. It’s about freedom, anger, redemption, sex, faith, and compassion. The book makes you aware of media manipulation, and how we go along with it (how dare she disappoint us?). I might not pay and go to a concert of an unwilling to perform bald 150kg woman (or I might), but it's her issue, not mine. I don’t believe she understands how of a privilege her situation is and was – they are so many artists who don’t get the attention that they need to live from their art - and her cluelessness about so many things (how men react to her sexiness, how she was used by them, how harsh people can be, etc.) is fully assumed, but, honey, shouldn’t you be using your brain a little bit more? There are also some incoherencies in the harshness of the conservatorship (she claims she was always on hard diet but speaks of a movie night with her two boys where she could have had popcorn, and then of nights out dancing in Europe; - but does it really matter?). There is also few to no words to the first 3 albums she did under the conservatorship (a glance at the relationship with Max Martin would have been interesting, or comments on the “hold it against me” song and video). Finally, no words of her alleged medical diagnostic (only some post-partum depression is mentioned), which is no wonder, as you have to be an adult to assume those types of things in life. Anyway, a fantastic read, least but not last: a big thanks to the incredible work of the ghostwriter(s) who helped out carving something compelling of the life of this superstar, no longer ours.

Eye-opening
I have never been a 'fan' of Britney; I owned one album as a young girl before my music taste completely changed, and I never really thought about her music again. You see the negative comments in the media, and it's so easy to unfairly build a questionable image of her in your mind. She shaves her head and attacks a pap car, and you just think, wow, what is going on there!? I never delved deeper into her lifestyle, until this book. I also never read autobiographies, personally finding it a tad dull reading about celebrities lives. I was taken in by the amount of attention this book received, I caved, and I'm glad I did. I have a new found respect for this amazing woman. The amount of control and abuse this poor woman experienced throughout her life is truly heartbreaking. She oozes kindness and sweetness and innocence, and was completely taken advantage of by.. almost everyone who should have protected her! I just have such a massive dislike for so many people mentioned in this book. And I saw just yesterday, Britney has apologised to anyone who came across in a bad light in her writing.. Which just no. No one deserves an apology except Britney. Her writing was simple to follow and easy to read which was great for me and I finished within 2 days. I would definitely recommend this book.

Well written
Speechless and sad. A must read for everyone. I'm glad she finally wrote this book. Must have been very therapeutic for her. On the surface, we think celebs hv a better life than us but we're wrong. Shame on everyone who let her down esp her family. This is the one book that I cdnt stop reading. It ws very well written. Chapters are short, she doesn't dwell and dt makes it evn more interesting. Great book!
