Cordless Lawn Mower, 40V 14" 2-in-1 Grass Mower for 1/8 Acre, WG779

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this mower as I honestly never thought I’d buy an electric one. However our Craftsman died earlier this year so I decide to give this one a shot since we’d had great success with other Worx products (their weed eater and blowers impressed me over the last few years). The set up was super simple and took just a few minutes. The batteries also did not take long to charge, so I’m assuming they were already partially charge. Start up is super simple (though it does feel a little backwards as you have to push the key over and then hold down the bar, instead of the normal bar first process). The biggest surprise was how quiet the unit is. It’s definitely quieter than the Worx weed eater and a huge difference over a traditional mower. Battery time, which was my biggest concern, turned out to be fine. At about 30 minutes the battery bar dropped to 1 light and you could feel the mower drop a little in terms of power, but it still cut fine and was still going 20 minutes later when I finished, so I don’t have much concern there for the future. Plus it also runs fine on my other Worx batteries, which I already have multiples of. I decided to try the smaller 20v Share batteries we have just to see and it worked with zero issue. The mower was very easy to maneuver and being lighter than a normal mower glides much easier. So far I’ve only used the mulching mode, but it cut very good and on the same level as a gas mower. My only complaint is once you turn the mower off, it does drop debris so I’m not sure the mulching was as good as our old mower. If weather stays nice (it’s currently above average temps in November here in Kentucky) I’ll try it out with the shoot attached as well. I also want to note that I bought this unit from Amazon Resale (formerly Amazon Warehouse). It was listed in “acceptable” condition. I was more than surprised when I opened up the plain, brown box and found what looked to be a good as new mower. I was expecting some type of damage like scratched or blemishes, but outside of some green grass coloring on the underside with the blade, it looked like I’d just taken it out of a Worx box from the store.

Let's talk lawn mowers. My yard isn't huge, but it is enough to make you tired walking back and forth. I used a gas mower for years. When we purchased this house, I decided to get a battery-operated mower since we sold our riding mower back in Texas. I've had it for about a year. It replaced another well-known battery-operated mower that stunk! Battery didn't hold for the entire yard. It was heavy and just wasn't what I expected for a name brand. It broke and hubby tried to find parts etc. It just didn't work out. I ordered from Amazon because of reviews and said a prayer. This mower is awesome! I didn't want to review it right away because seems like the item breaks as soon as you give it high marks. 🤞 It's so awesome I got my Dad one too. He is 84 and likes to be active but a gas mower was getting to much for him. The pushing is as easy as a Childs stroller and feels sort of like a toy because it's so light. Don't let that fool you, it has power. It will fling rocks like a gas power and mows cleanly. It has mulch or bag too. We can get about 3 moss on one charge btw.

Mower arrived 95% assembled, which was nice. Only had to unfold the handle, screw it down and then attach the cable clips. Super easy. Two 20v 4ah batteries came about half charged. I am impatient, so I put them in the mower and went to see what she could do. I don't have a large yard by any means...probably a 1/4 acre at best. I don't let the grass get too long but there are a couple of areas that are thicker and healthier than others. Mower started right up and is super quiet. It's lightweight so you don't need any kind of self-propulsion. A nice feature is the automatic 'turbo' that kicks in when the mower senses thicker grass or that it needs to work a little harder to get through a particular section...then turns back off when the easier/thinner material is recognized. I was satisfied after the first pass. However, I stopped because I knew I couldn't accurately gauge the battery life with two half charged batteries. So I charged them (took about 6 hours to fully charge from empty), plugged them back into the mower and attacked the lawn as I normally would. I'd say that these 4ah batteries got me 90% through. Lasted about a half hour+ and had a decent cut. It did die with a patch left over but luckily I have a Worx leaf blower and edger/weedeater combo for which I also have batteries. So I just plugged in a couple of 2ah's and I was done in 30 seconds. I would recommend getting at least a 5ah or even 6ah set of batteries if you have anything larger than 1/4 acre or thicker grass that'll require some more of the 'turbo' feature to be in effect. I'll start with the Cons since most people only remember the last thing they read in a review and I don't want to sour anyone's opinion of this Worx 21" cordless mower. Cons: Battery life isn't 'awesome' but is better than other cordless battery powered mowers I've seen/used in the past. I would just suggest investing in a 5ah or 6ah 20v set. Just be sure to measure the actual height of the battery versus the cavity of the mower because you are limited in the space. Some brands make thicker batteries in the same #ah. Another thing I noticed is that you 'should' make your passes slower than you typically would with a more powerful gas mower. It's not super powerful, but it is 'sufficient' and powerful enough. At first I made my initial passes as I normally would with my gas push mower. I noticed that it didn't hit every blade and even left some of the thicker stuff untouched. So the second go round, I went slower and it seemed to pay attention to everything at that point. Negative number 3 is the metal mower deck that extends past the wheels. I have some decorative brick edging around some flower beds and I noticed that the deck scrapes along them where my older mowers all had plastic wheels that would rub on them, thus protecting the deck. This will inevitably lead to the paint wearing away and rusting eventually. I'll have to keep an eye on it and maybe paint if it gets to that point. Last potential negative...DON'T LOSE THE SAFETY KEY. I've heard horror stories of people who break or lose the safety key that you need in order to start the mower. The proprietary shape isn't all that complicated to duplicate, but good luck finding one online or even getting one quickly from the manufacturer. Pros: Easy to use. It's super lightweight, the batteries are easy to install and remove and it took 20 seconds to fully assemble out of the box. Maneuverability is simple and you don't need any self propulsion on this one. Go slow and it'll do the job as long as you don't have any sort of super thick grass. This is definitely a mower for folks who have a smaller yard with regular grass that doesn't grow too tall/thick. It's also a more affordable option when compared to other electric/battery powered push mowers. I did my research and they're quite comparable to the competition in both price and performance. I went this route because I already had a couple of other Worx battery powered products that have served me well. No more oil changes and I just tossed out my gas can because the push mower was my last gas powered tool. I'm not pushing 'green' by any means, but this is nice now with fuel prices skyrocketing. You won't see me in a Tesla any time soon but knowing I don't have to go to the gas station because I'm out of fuel halfway through a mow on a Sunday afternoon is a good thing. I'll likely update this in a year to let you know how the batteries hold up and whether or not the blade needs sharpened. Thanks for reading and good luck! I do recommend! (UPDATE): As of 10/12/24, or about two months of use, the mower and batteries are still in good shape. However, the handle bar cushion wrap is ripping apart and the vinyl grass sweep I tearing away from one side. I have a small flat yard and don’t do any aggressive turns. This is all very simple movement here. So those two items are the only complaints I have so far. Luckily these are not necessary components and the grass is still being cut nicely. I would still recommend.

I have had this mower for 2 years now. It is fantastic! I bought it as a backup for when the landscapers did not show up, so I could cut the part of the lawn down by the lake that grows so fast. When the landscapers missed cuts the grass down there would grow to 2 foot tall before they would come back to cut. I got tired of it always looking messy so bought this mower and would go out between the landscaper visits to keep the grass maintained. After about 6 months of that I decided I could do the yard maintenance myself. I am so happy with this mower! It is so easy to use and does a great job. It is so light and easy to push! My yard has never looked better and my grass is always thick, full and green now. The original set of batteries still get 45 minutes when the grass is manageable. If the grass gets to high or the mower stalls out a lot it cuts the battery life down to about 35 minutes. I bought another set of batteries which also get me about 45 minutes. I have about 1/2 an acre to cut of mixed grass types and different levels. With both battery sets I can do the full yard. There are no tricks or fancy maneuvers. Just slide in the charged batteries, slide over the little orange latch and squeeze the handle. I can go forwards or backwards easily and if the weeds/grass is too long it’s easy enough to pull down on the handle to put the cutting blade up so it doesn’t stall or get stuck. I can cut down near the lake so easily, even if it’s muddy, as the mower is so light. People told me to get a self propelled but after looking at the way to reverse them that would be needed by the lake I wasn’t sure if it would be usable there. This mower just goes where I push it so no issues with reverse or the lake. This is one of the best things I have ever bought from Amazon. I am happy to go out and cut my grass whenever I need to, as I know it will be an easy process. I always cut until the batteries run out and then recharge them fully overnight. Sometimes I hose down the mower since it mainly plastic , to keep it clean, but a lot of times I just wipe it clean with a rag. I don’t use the bag to catch the cuttings because it fills up to fast but leaving the cuttings in my grass is never even noticeable. It cuts through all my oak and magnolia leaves. I am an overweight 64 year old woman who has never had to cut grass before and I am glad I don’t have to worry about gas or oil!

I ordered this mower from Amazon and received it in record time, which pleased me to no end. I was widowed in February and have been doing my own lawn work. The battery operated mower that I had quit on me. I really liked it because it was lightweight and I didn’t have to deal with gasoline or changing the oil. A neighbor of mine helped me get the mower out of the box and put it together, but after everything we went through to get it together, it wasn’t put together correctly. The lever that changes the height of the cut of the grass did not clear the wheel, so it didn’t budge, and obviously it wasn’t going to work. I didn’t even get a chance to try it out. I really wanted this mower because it was perfect for me. I just needed it for a small backyard and a little bit of trimming. The mower that the box came in had been chewed up around the edges, so it looked like it may have been a returned mower. I don’t know that for sure though. My neighbor helped me box it up and we took it to the UPS store along with the UPS label that I received from Amazon. I’m told that I should get the full refund back, but they will basically have to check it out first. It could take a month before I get a refund. In the meantime, I went to Lowe’s and found a Craftsman battery operated mower that I think will probably be better suited for me anyway. I was so disappointed that this mower didn’t work out for me. I do appreciate the ease in being able to return it.

I had owned another brand electric mower from 2015 to 2020, but it used the lead-acid battery and once it died, I bought an old, refurbished French-Canadian Poulan gas mower as a quick replacement. It works great, except it is hard to push because the rear wheel motor is dead, so it is like pushing a tank. The main reason that I bought this new Worx mower is because of my tinnitus. Because of an ear infection in 2019, it’s been a problem, but as of last summer, it is nearly cured so I am trying to keep it at a manageable level, but loud noises can make it erupt. This Poulan mower is loud, so even if I wear ear plugs and ear protection at the same time, sometimes my tinnitus will erupt after mowing for 60 to 90 minutes. Last weekend I mowed my lawn for the time this season 2023 using my Poulan gas mower and my tinnitus roared for two days, so I decided I had to buy another electric mower again. I choose Worx because I have been a customer of them since 2008 when I bought their blower and weed trimmer with the old lead acid batteries. In the summer of 2021, after the old lead acid batteries died, I bought a new blower and weed trimmer with the new 20V lithium batteries. Now back to my new Worx mower. I have a very large, corner yard that I mow; back yard, sides, and the front. The new mower was easy to get set up and the batteries charged quickly. Pic #1: My backyard after using the new Worx mower, looks great and I have the mower on setting #1 which is closest to the ground. Pic #2: I mowed the back yard and the battery showed one blank dots, which is good. Pic #3: I mowed the rear-side yard and the batteries are still active. Pic #4: I mowed the sides next to my street, and the batteries are still active. Pic #5: I mowed the sides in front of my house, next to the street, Pic #6: The batteries are still active, but with only two lights showing. Pic #7: The mower picks up leaves, sticks, etc. Very effective mower. Pic #8: Once the new batteries died, I had to still mow the front yard and side yard next to my house, so I got out the 20V batteries that I got when I bought my blower / weed trimmer in 2021. Pic #9: The older 20V batteries mowed the front yard. Pic #10: The older 20V batteries mowed the side yard. Pic #11: Far view. Pic #12: Three bags of leaves, sticks, grass. Pic #13: Mower is clean. Pic #14: The Worx will replace the old Poulan. After today’s yardwork, my tinnitus is not roaring after having worked in my yard for nearly three hours this afternoon. This was the number reason that I bought the new Worx mower and I was hoping it was going to be this way. I was able to finish the mowing job with the two 20V batteries that I bought in 2021. This is one of the most effective designs that any company has produced; same battery that can be used in all of their products. This is why I am sticking with Worx. Lastly, this mower worked perfectly and I am glad that I bought this model. You can see from the pictures how nice my lawn looks. There is nothing that I dislike about this mower. 18 June Update: My mower is still working great!

Nice little mower our front and back yard are small so it's perfect for us it's really lightweight with a bad back I can use it easily and better that I don't need to worry about fuel/oil and the hard to pull motion I'm old so works perfectly for my use it's not very loud so that's another plus took me all of 10 minutes to put together I was worried about the height I am 6'2 but it worked out UPDATE: Lower review I let my grass grow longer than my first mow and it does not do well with Longer thicker grass at all it kept dying out every couple seconds and got annoying because I had to stop every couple seconds and push the safety switch

Now I don't do reviews all but after using this mower for the first time I had to. She is small and light but she is mighty. I can literally pick her up with one hand. I have a small front and back yard and she's perfect size. Batter does take some hours to charge but I managed to cut both front and back and have half the battery life left. Now she did stall and cut off a few times but that's on me because it's my first time cutting grass this year so it was overgrown. This is perfect for the ladies and elderly. I wouldn't recommend for anyone tall tho, I'm 5 foot 7 and would have liked the handle a little longer but other than that great purchase.

This mower is light and easy to push. We have a large city yard that takes about 45 minutes to mow. We can mow 95 percent of it on one battery charge. We probably just need to walk faster! It starts easily and seems pretty sturdy.

We already have a collection of Worx products from a 19" lawnmower, 2 blowers, hedge trimmer, small chainsaw and even a battery operated sprayer so the main reason to buy it was that all the batteries are compatible. The quality of the lawnmower is great which was a pleasant surprise. The ease of adjustments from height to handle adjustment makes this mower very convenient.

Received mine and completed my first cut. I will try to remember to give updates for the next few cuts. So far it’s a 5/5. It’s significant quieter than my old electric mower, and it does a fantastic job mulching. And when I say quiet, I mean it was no louder than a large fan. I almost thought it wasn’t working at first, but it’s just amazingly low decibel. The dual batteries had no problem maintaining charge while I did both my front and backyard. It’s super light (maybe 30-35 pounds?) and has a nice handhold on the main unit, so you can carry it with ease if needed. Cutting height is a so very easy to adjust. So far, I’m VERY glad I picked this up on Prime Day, it was totally worth the money. Again, I will try to update over time, especially if anything changes. November 2025 edit: still amazing! Going into winter I obviously won’t be using it a lot, but it handled my last trims of the year with ease. Will update in spring if I remember!
