This was a gift for my wife, and I bought a gray one for myself. We like them a lot. We both use them on a daily basis, both for everyday use and for outdoor trips. The dedicated laptop/tablet compartment is especially useful. We like their aesthetics, capacity, and versatility. I added a bungee cord, some extra padding to the laptop compartment, and two tactical pouches to mine to increase its functionality. After considerable use and abuse, they still look like new. Excellent product.

I used my old North Face Slingshot backpack for nearly 18 years, so it was time to upgrade. I always liked the design of the Recon and chose to purchase this backpack. I've never seen the navy backpack in person, but since it's my favorite color, I pulled the trigger. When I received it, I was surprised by how nice and sleek it looked. All the compartments were thoughtfully designed and are practical. The soft material they used for the interior of the front compartment is perfect for phones, glasses, and other things you want to keep safe. The backpack was bigger than expected, and is more than adequate to carry my everyday work items. The straps are comfortable and sturdy. The external fleece-lined pocket is a huge upgrade from my old Slingshot strings that could only carry clothes. I don't use the buckle straps, so it does look a little sloppy at times. However, you can adjust them so they're not in your way. The bottom of the backpack looks durable and it's very unlikely any holes will form in the future. Since my old backpack lasted so long, I'm confident this one will last longer. Overall, I think it's a quality backpack and I'm getting more than I paid for.

I just received my North Face Recon backpack, and I have to say, it looks fantastic! I've always been a big fan of North Face backpacks because of their quality and durability. My previous North Face backpack wasn't a Recon, but it lasted me around 7–9 years before the zipper finally gave out. It served me incredibly well, so choosing another North Face for an upgrade was an easy decision. So far, I'm very impressed with the Recon's design and build quality. I'm hoping this backpack lasts even longer than my last one. I can't wait to take it on new adventures and explore new places! 🎒🧭🏞️🌄

I couldn’t be happier with my North Face Recon backpack. I use it daily for work and travel, and it’s hands-down one of the best backpacks I’ve owned. The laptop compartment is well-padded and fits my 15” laptop perfectly. There’s also plenty of space in the main compartment for books, clothes, or gear, plus a ton of smartly placed pockets to keep everything organized. The front pocket is great for quick-access items, and the fleece-lined pocket is perfect for sunglasses or a phone. The best part? It’s incredibly comfortable to wear, even when fully loaded. The padded straps and back panel provide great support, and the sternum strap helps with weight distribution. It also feels super durable—classic North Face quality. If you need a reliable, versatile backpack that looks good and performs even better, this is it. Highly recommend!

While this backpack does the job well for as my everyday, go-to bag, there are a few minor points I believe any buyer of this bag should be aware. Please read this entire review. Pros 1) This bag is very comfortable and versatile. The additional straps make it great for a heavy load, or long trips. The back cushioning is sufficient, the material is quite strong with good stitching, and the stretchy mesh has so far retained it's elasticity. The bottom is especially impressive. 2) It's quite lightweight, which helps when you have a bunch of stuff to carry. 3) It has a dedicated laptop section, and great organizational storage. 4) Dual elastic water bottle holders. LOVE IT. Cons 1) There could be more pockets and large sections. While this bag boasts a fair amount of liters of storage, what they don't tell you is that a lot of that space is vertical, NOT horizontal. When I place all my college-ruled spiral notebooks in, there is a good 8 inches above them. Then again, that space is likely there for when you stuff the top pocket, but still, I believe there could be a better use of space. If you've ever had one of those big LLBean backpacks you'll know what I mean. This is a large LOW PROFILE bag, it's meant to be sleek, and that makes it look cool and less bulky, but you can't shove too many binders in it. 2) It does not stand upright. Like most backpacks, this one falls flat when freestanding. I've found this to be only a slight nuisance, yet noteworthy - you will definitely have to lean it against something or hang it. Summary Overall, it's a good bag, I paid for it at a steep discount (around $60), so for me, if the bag lasts, it was a well-worth purchase. I would highly recommend it to someone who usually carries most of their schoolwork or laptop with them, an urban commuter, a sometimes athlete who needs to go to the gym, or a day hiker. But this is not your "week going camping bag" or to bring all your binders along. For that, go with LLBean, Swissgear, or the next larger version of the Recon.

Essential elements without extra clutter. Comfortable (for a pack with a minimal hip belt such as this anyway).

This is my third north face backpack in my life. They have lasted years upon years and in my opinion are worth every penny. The size is great it fits my 15in laptop with no issues along with notebooks and books and chargers. I love the color it is vibrant and seems well made overall. Great for every day use, sturdy and dependable. Would buy again in multiple colors if I didn't know it would last me years.

Great bag! I bought this bag for my son, who’s in the Navy, in 2024. He traveled the world with it, until it was unfortunately stolen recently while he was at work 😑 I will be purchasing another one for him this week, because he really did love it. It’s very roomy and comfortable to wear. He never had any issues with the durability. Highly recommend. Worth the money!

Durable bag. Inside of the bag is like a cooler. It cant just stand on its own. Bottom is not structured to hold its position.

I needed to decide the North Face Recon and the Osprey Nebula. The North Face has better Features and esprecially the Hip Strap is better thought through. I only choose the Osprey because of its 4L bigger size. If they were the same size, I'd have taken the North Face.
