It comes with a remote (batteries are included, just open the cover and remove the plastic to get it to work). The remote has a 1h timer, settings for the brightness and color temp, and a few presets for light level 'moods' (coffee, reading, computer, etc). Remote is really responsive and instantly triggers the light. The remote is quite click-y though and makes a little noise as a result but feels high-quality. The light also has settings directly on top of the head in-case you don't want to use the remote. Without any real adjusting, the light is about 2 feet tall from behind my desk and over my monitor. You can have it go straight up to about 30 inches or as low as you want if you play around with the neck. Can't comment on the quality of the light just yet in terms of longevity or flickering, but in every other category, this has been perfect and I am extremely happy with my purchase and likely to buy a second or third one!
