I'll heat food (usually homemade soup) until piping hot (in a separate bowl of course, don't ever microwave this or other steel!) and then put it into this container. From 5am to 2pm, the temperature is still hotter than warm, which is great when I don't have access to a microwave. I also use this for cold food as well, like cold melons, tuna salad, or chicken salad. I'd say it does the best job keeping food cold, since you can refrigerate the entire container overnight. The wide opening makes it easy to use, it's dishwasher safe (I always put mine on the top rack), and it's so sturdy it could survive an apocalypse. The lid's seal is also so good that it will basically ferment whatever is inside! I accidentally left watermelon in it for 2 days, and when I had to pry the lid off, it popped and the watermelon inside had become super fizzy. Crazy! Definitely don't forget food inside it if you're leaving it out all day at room temp!
