If you're thinking about it, buy it.
I got the ads on TikTok for this, which left me wondering if it was worth the hype. Short answer is yes. First and foremost- It's super well built. The main clamp is metal, the arms are metal, the joints are all metal. They even went so far as to add rubber o-rings to all the ball joints to increase friction. It's amazing. The catch is they cheaped out on the phone clamp included in the base. The spring and tensioning mechanism inside of it feels.... cheap and prone to breaking. That being said, the grip it has on your phone is super secure. Mega bonus points for including a cold shoe mount at the top of the phone holder- I have found this incredibly useful for adding a little battery powered LED light. This thing also packs and travels super well. It uses the standard tripod screws for the base at the top of the arm, making it endlessly configurable- I would have no qualms using this with a point and shoot type vlogging camera. I've even used it for a webcam. This makes it the perfect tool for streaming, product photos, or even overhead desk shots. The hallmark of any good product is how intuitive it is to use out the box, and this is where it shines. The Smallrig is worth the hype because it's built with insane quality for the price.

Exactly what I needed for my desk camera setup
I bought this because I use a real camera on my desk instead of a webcam. I connect my camera directly to my computer and record a lot of content. It’s kind of like a streaming setup, even though I’m not actually a streamer. I wanted something that would hold my camera right in front of me like a webcam, but also let me change angles when I wanted. This mount has been great. It’s very sturdy and built really well. The clamp is strong and adjusts easily to the desk. Once it’s tightened and positioned, it doesn’t move at all. If you intentionally tug on it, sure, you can make it shift a little, but during normal use there’s no shake and no drift. Setup was easier than I expected. At first you just have to get used to how the joints move, but once you understand that, adjusting it is simple. I mainly use it with my Sony camera, and being able to loosen the screw and dial in the exact angle I want is a big plus. I like it so much that I ended up buying two. I got my first one in August 2025 and another in January 2026. Instead of constantly unclamping and moving it around for different angles, I just added a second one to my desk. It’s slim, minimal, and doesn’t clutter my setup. It’s been perfect for content creation and for using my camera as a webcam. People constantly comment on how good the video looks, and a big part of that is having the camera held securely in the right position. I’ve tried propping cameras up in other ways before, and nothing was this stable or clean. Would I buy it again? Yes. I already bought two, and if I ever needed another one, I wouldn’t hesitate.

Great entry level phone mount!
I record videos of my workbench and this arm is exactly what I was looking for. The arms are metal and feel sturdy, the ball joints are easy to adjust, and the desk clamp holds tight to my bench. It allows me to go from profile shots to overhead shots with ease, and holds my phone firmly in place. Great product for the price.

Solid, Stable Mount With Minor Plastic Trade-Off
Pros: Very solid overall build quality. Once locked into place, it securely holds my iPhone 16 Pro Max with a Speck case and feels stable during use. Most of the assembly feels well-made and dependable. Cons: The phone holder itself is plastic, unlike the rest of the metal construction. It works fine, but it feels like the weakest part and may not hold up as well with frequent use. SmallRig does sell a metal replacement separately, which suggests this included holder is more of a basic option. Summary: A strong and stable mount with excellent performance, but long-term durability would be improved if the phone holder matched the rest of the build quality.

Happy
I purchased this SMALLRIG magic arm clamp for my overhead setup, and it's been a solid performer. The build quality exceeds expectations for the price point - the clamp mechanism is robust and holds position reliably even with my phone mounted. Installation was straightforward, and the flexibility of the arm allows me to position my device exactly where I need it. If you're looking for a dependable overhead mount solution, this is worth considering.

Best phone holder money can buy!
This item is solid in every aspect. Any accessories that thread on to a tripod can thread on to this. Have read a few complaints about the accompanying phone holder. Folks, let’s be real. Search for tripod compatible holders that work specifically with your phone, take off the accompanying holder and add the one you like. But the arm length and articulations create a holder that can be easily manipulated into any needed position and it will stay put. This is by far the best phone holder I have ever used. I purchased a tripod threaded magsafe magnet for mine and it spun right on where the accompanying one used to be. Talk about excellence. Extremely well engineered and durable! Be foolish and buy something else if you don’t like quality. This is KING ! Now, I would like to see the manufacturer make one with one more section of length. I suspect however they won’t since this is truly a winner! Why mess with perfection?

Rock solid with amazing articulation
This SmallRig magic arm is extremely well built and feels very solid. The articulation is amazing and makes it easy to position cameras, lights, or accessories exactly where you want them. Once tightened, it stays locked in place with no sag. Perfect for desk setups, overhead shots, or content creation in general. Great quality and absolutely worth it.

very versatile. Examine the unit and the varied open holes and swivels. Make what you need happen.
I do a bit of desk top conferencing---- big desk, big screen. This unit was very versatile. I mounted a webcam (logitech) directly to the mount at the top, created a very complex series of bends on the arm clamp and got a very adjustable camera angle. I did move the swivel arm (the swivel mounted to the base clamp (the clamp that would go on a table)) and it gave me a more refined extended angle which I needed. This was possible because the base clamp has a second threaded hole which you can utilize for just this purpose. I found the swivel to lock up tight enough to hold the entirely extended unit, with bends (which by the laws of physics made the camera end heavy). I'll see if over time it develops a "flop" which I won't like but it's not flopping. My original thought was to mount the unit on the left or ride side of my desk but 22 inches was not long enough. I instead mounted the base clamp behind the monitor and went under the monitor which is about 4 inches above my desk. The camera now extends directly infront of my monitor (by going under) and there's two more ball adjustments to elevate the camera and get the perspective just right. Bonus--can release one of the swivels and it lowers the camera flat for when I'm not doing teleconferencing--takes all of a minute to raise it back up--and my keyboard resides in front of all this--returning to a work station. Nothing is in the way. No more mini wobbly tripod. I would have mounted it to the monitor but that in all likelihood would have damaged the monitor. If they made a 36 inch arm, I could side mount and simply brush the arm to the side each day when the camera is not in use. Though I bought the unit to be permanent, the arm (if I purchase a second one) is perfect for iphone filming when travelling light to create static shots in impromptu filming situations. Fiddle about and you'll get it to do what you want--which is what it's designed for--versatility. I can't compare it to the competing neweer or other brands but I've had a few small rig products that are well made, quality control is good and if this isn't flopped in 12 hours it's a raging success!
