Seems great so far!
This is my first laser engraver. The build quality is very good. They put thought into some small details which i find reassuring in regards to quality of the brand. If they went out of their way to include these small steps in production Im confident in the rest of it. Engraving is very easy with it. Im mostly trying to cut thin plywood and it seems to work well but Im still learning. I like it. I actually like the included gbrl software. It cuts files lightburn doesnโt read. It took a couple hours to set up, a couple hours to hook up to WiFi and software. A couple more hours and I was engraving my own files. No regrets.

Good machine. Lives up to its reputation. Cuts 0.25 wood in one pass. Love it!

Excellent performance, value and support.
At this price point I found the Longer Ray5 machine to be the best value laser out there. It checks all the boxes for what I need: Simple to use and compatible with Lightburn, very solid and well-made, and excellent support / documentations, and very affordable. I've been engraving on a less-powerful portable laser for a couple years, but the Longer 20W machine is my first that is capable of cut-throughs and larger work areas. I've been making inlays and raised 3D types of designs for coasters and wall art. It does everything advertised in my testing, including cutting wood and acrylic and engraving just about anything. I did a lot of looking around before choosing this machine and found that several add-ons are almost mandatory. Those suggested extras follow: Add on suggestion #1: Air assist makes so much of a difference that I would never recommend cutting without it. Whenever I forget to turn on the air compressor the results are charred and uneven. I wish the model I purchased had integrated air assist support like the one in the photos online, but somehow I bought one that is not aware. So instead of lightburn just activating it, it must be turned on manually each time. Longer sells an add on air assist system which is pretty much an aquarium air pump, but it had all the connecting tubing, good vibration dampening and wasn't very expensive so I ordered that one. Add on suggestion #2 is to use a honeycomb bed which will protect your table top surface, help with cut throughs, and reduce charring on the bottom side. Add on suggestion #3 is an enclosure and an exhaust fan. I bought a couple of acrylic safety panels and built a basic enclosure out of those and some plywood. Unless you're set up outside you'll need to move the smoke away somewhere. I bought a 130CFM fan on Amazon for not too much and it worked well. Overall, these add ons cost me about $150. I'm on a budget so I did not purchase those items lightly but they were each well worth the expense. At some point you'll also want to purchase Lightburn, with which the Longer machines are compatible and runs about 100 USD after the free trial expires. I highly recommend this company's products.

Ray of Light well worth it.
Great product for beginners and very customizable. Love tinkering with and creating different types of designs for it.

Well pleased with this purchase!
This was easy to set up and it's simple to operate, especially if you have used one before. The only issue I had is that some of the items weren't clearly defined in the manual, but it was nothing that a good web search couldn't fix! The air assist stem on mine was broken, but customer support quickly responded and replaced it. The laser itself is well constructed and operation is smooth and quiet. I'm very pleased with this purchase and would recommend it for anyone in the market.

Rays5 20W stopped working in 3 months
I bought the machine at the end of September and started using it basically nonstop through February. When it dies, it dies. The laser would focus but when you told lightburn to start the project, the laser would stop. I tried several things. Cleaned it twice. Restarted and nothing. Shut it down and did it all over again the next day. I started calling their IT desk. Their site states US hours supported but no one would answer. I would leave a message. I called every day for 3 days and the same thing...leave a message. Everyone on their IT team must be named Ryan because Ryan started responding with very dumb questions. I provided videos and then he'd ask for videos. I would explain the issue and he would ask questions about things I had already provided an answer to. A WEEK LATER, after losing my cool he tells me the person who answers the phone is on vacation and then the dumb questions start all over. By this time, my engraving business has been DOWN FOR A WEEK! I broke down and bought another laser. Not the 20W after this ordeal. Finally, after two weeks of fighting with RYAN they send me a new 20W and then start calling my phone every day to discuss the issue because they know they are getting a bad review at this point. If the machine is only going to last 3 months, buy a different machine. Before the 3 month mark, the engraver worked fine. I was very happy with the results. All I can say is buy at your own risk.

Get a more powerful laser to start with.
This is a great beginner laser if you only want to do some basic engraving. If you want to cut anything, you'll need a higher power laser. Warning, although the Ray5 is advertised as being up-gradable, it is not easily done. To upgrade, you need to change cables, flash firmware, and, even though Ray5 unit is only a month old, the Longer support team have told me I need to upgrade all of the circuitry (presumably by myself and at my own cost). I'm not comfortable rewiring a laser engraver or computer circuitry, or throwing good money after bad. So if you want to cut out designs, start with a much more powerful model. For me, one of the attractions of the RAY5 was the wifi connectivity or the ability to use a micro SD card so I wouldn't need a computer setup in the garage. Engraving / cutting creates a lot of smoke so I won't use it in the house. The wifi on the Ray5 is a joke. It's impossible to connect to wifi even with a NEST box sitting on top of it. The console can't handle GCode files greater than 1mb and struggles with even the simplest designs using the micro SD card. You will need a laptop or other computer connection. Save your money and buy a better product from a better brand.
