I got these as a birthday gift for an 8-year-old girl with strawberry blonde hair. I worried the colors might not show up on anything less than white-blonde hair and that it might create an aggravating mess for her parents. These didn't end up being legit concerns. They were a big hit at her birthday party, the color transferred easily (if not super vibrantly) and her mom told me later they washed right out. Then the chalks came out again on Christmas day when we visited with our white cocker spaniel. Her family has a white standard poodle who, as part of his normal grooming, often gets a purple mohawk. We decided to add a little color to my puppy and make them match. Even my silver-haired, 82-year-old mom joined the fun, with stunning results! Super easy application, and just as easy to wash out when the party wound down.

My 7 yo is now into hair color. I decided to allow her to wear only hair color that is washable or clip in. I purchased this for an event where she had wear her team colors and this looked quick and easy to apply. She eventually tried all the colors. It was so easy to apply that she did it herself. The colors showed nicely on her dark brown hair. However, it is chalk so it doesn’t stay on long, but her hair is also long so it rubbed off easily on her clothes. Maybe it’ll work better on an up-do. All the colors showed bright, even the yellow. It looked really cute. It was also easy to wash out, she was able to do it herself during her bath time. I recommend if you’re using it for a day or event. I don’t recommend sleeping with it on as it smudges easily on clothes and fabric.

Color shows up vividly on my blonde hair! I bought these so I could test color placements before going for a more permanent hair dye and it was a great tool for experimenting! The colors could be placed on top of one another and not mix. I showered and my hair is not stained (it did take three shampoos before my shampoo washed off white). I cannot speak on longevity of the product because that was not my intended use! Potential cons: although I was not making much of an effort to be clean, it is a messy product. I wore an old shirt and put a towel on the ground and the chalk got all over my face and hands, but it easily washed off. If your hair is not wet, expect severe frizz - you're rubbing chalk and a sponge on your hair. I had some hair breakage because I was squeezing the chalk shut to get a vivid color. The metal ridges are above the chalk line which cause a tension point. Overall I am very pleased with the product and it did just what I needed it to do!

At first when received it was very happy with the purchase and it was easy to apply to my daughter’s hair but as the day progressed the product was getting lighter on hair and noticed it on the child’s top. It doesn’t hold well. And it would look better on blonde hair, I m not sure it is good for brunettes. As it gets lighter as day progress and as I said it doesn’t stay on the hair alone it gets on hands ( when touched after applying) and clothes.its more like a Chalk.

I was not expecting for the colors to be so vibrant in my kids hair (5 & 3). They have brown hair and they showed up great! It is obviously chalk so as they touched their head, it came off on their hands but it was perfect for crazy hair day at school!

Great temporary hair dye! I would recommend if it’s for something specific doing it the same day. We did my daughters the night before a performance and it was not as vibrant after sleeping with it in. Also had chalk all over clothes and pillow which is also something you need to be aware of since it rubs off. It washed totally out after 2-3 washes

My kids and I had a blast with these. The color pay off is what you'd expect if not a bit better on dark hair. My daughter has red hair and the blue, green, and purple showed up well. My son has blonde hair, only wanted blue and green and they showed up really well on his hair. My hair is brown/dyed red and the greens and blues showed up well. Just remember to wet the hair strands and to color the top of the section you pick, not the bottom. It all washed right out.

Only order if you’re willing to have an absolute diva at all times. I can’t keep my kid away from these. Our whole family has rainbow hair. The dog is half purple half green. I put them up high and hidden and she uses nothing but sheer will power to get them down.

The most popular part of the entire face paint booth! Chalks are easy to use. They store PERFECTLY in my kit with colors easily identified thanks to the colorful case! When you run it down the strand, only take a small 1/4" section at a time for best results. Press firmly for heavy colors, gently for muted. If it looks cakey, just separate the strands by shaking it out! So vibrant and they blend beautifully! Im ordering 2 more. In pictures: flame colors on my own wet -overly processed hair. So for the price, these are really very very good. Told the small human that if he grew his hair out long enough that it could be bleached without it going near his roots then I would do that for him (so we could cut the damaged/coloured parts of his hair away for school in a couple of months) The bleached base made a huge huge difference to the colours so I would advise that it's unlikely you would get the same results with darker hair. The bleached areas of my son's hair were a bit coppery to start so the reds and yellows took very very well. The orange is more red and the red is more pink so that threw us a little and I would suggest looking at the colours inside rather than leaning on the packaging colours. The products are well packaged and easy to safely store without risking loose pigment. Far better than anticipated at the price point. The blues, greens and purples definitely faded a little more once his hair was dry but again, with the coppery undertone they didn't look as bright to start with. The hair texture reminded me a little of hair that has dry shampoo. Would suggest a conditioning treatment (child safe one if using for kids) after as it definitely dried his hair out. Upon washing it out this evening (after about 7 hours) it washed out easily enough with shampoo which surprised me given it's been bleached. Over all he was very pleased with the ability to choose colours and be expressive and I was very pleased with the price and quality. Would highly recommend this product.

Great colour on my daughters hair! Very pleased little girl!! However, Incredibly messy. Transferred to clothes carpet and dust got everywhere. As day went on the colour transferred to my daughters face as it was a hot day on the playground sweating etc.

The color is absolutely amazing! Definitely need to wet hair first however as it is like chalk/eye shadow powder. May stain clothes if you dont follow instructions, but if you do and take precautions, this is an amazing product for kids and washes out great!
