Squier's Vintage Modified Jazz Bass delivers great traditional Jazz Bass style and performance, with two snappy-sounding Fender-designed pickups and a comfortably slim "C"-shaped maple neck. For superior sound and feel with excellent Squier performance and value, look no further than the Vintage Modified Jazz Bass.

Get Over the Name on the Headstock and Check Out This Bass!
I have been playing bass for over 30 years, and have owned a variety of basses made by Fender, Spector, and Rickenbacker. I will admit to being a bit skeptical of this bass being a Squier. However, a guitarist who is a close friend of mine bought a Squier Telecaster and really liked it, and after reading all of the positive reviews online I decided to buy one of these because I needed to add a 4-string bass to my collection. It is easy to say that this is a great bass for the price. The reality is that it is just a great bass, period. It shipped to me with a setup that was very playable (though I did make some minor adjustments to suit my preferences). What else can I say? It feels, plays, and sounds just like a Jazz bass is supposed to. What is more, I personally think that the instrument is a great-looking bass.I owned a Fender MIJ Geddy Lee Jazz Bass, and I would say that this instrument is very comparable to that one. However, it is a bit lighter, and I find the Squier to have a bit more low-end presence when plugged into an amp.The only thing I would say about this bass is that I would avoid buying a used one. If you buy it new, it should come with a factory warranty. I did have to take mine in twice to a Fender licensed warranty shop for repairs to solders that had caused one of the pickups to stop working. Keep in mind that the repairs were free of charge because the bass was under warranty; however, even if it had not been under warranty the estimated cost of the repairs was only $35. If you live in a remote area and cannot easily get to a Fender warranty shop, you might want to take that into consideration though.I am still giving this bass 5 stars despite the minor repairs that it needed. I am amazed by the overall quality of instrument that can be had for this price. I have had the bass in live gigging situations many times for over a year, and have gotten nothing but praise and compliments about the way it looks and sounds. And, no one has said a word about the name "Squier" on the headstock!

spectacular value
By now this thing is pretty well-known as THE bargain in fretless basses, so I'll leave it up to you to Google the considerable praise that's been heaped on it by lots of people who were blown away that a $300 bass could be this good. Make no mistake -- it's an inexpensive instrument made in Indonesia, and there are aspects that are sub-par -- but it's highly playable and looks great, and at this price I'm willing to overlook things that don't harm the playability.Fit and finish are good. The Ebonol fingerboard is glossy. The fret lines are inlaid, and are thin. Electronics are perfectly adequate -- feel free to upgrade, though I'm not sure I'd spend a lot of money there as the factory pickups and components are just fine. Mine arrived with medium-low action and a moderate amount of neck relief: the standard Fender J-bass setup in every respect. I carefully removed the relief with just under a quarter-turn of the truss rod -- I like a dead flat fingerboard on a fretless, because I want all the "mwah" I can get. A few tiny tweaks on the truss rod and some small adjustments to saddle height and I was soon in the mwah zone (think John Giblin or Percy Jones).Mine's heavy. Yours might not be -- like most kinds of wood, agathis varies considerably. My only complaint -- and it's not really much of a complaint, given the low price and how good this thing is overall -- is that the tuners are poor (hence the one star deduction). They'll hold pitch fine, but there is a ton of lag when reversing direction and the gears feel like they're grinding a bit. I'll be replacing those, but could live with them if I had to.

Solid bass!
Before I begin the review I have to say I'm not a Squier fan at all, because I had problem with Squier basses that I've owed previously. I needed a five string due to the fact that my band play mostly RnB music, but I don't want to spend thousands of dollars on five strings since I've already owned two Fenders. I decided to gave it a try because of the positive comments on this bass. After playing it for a month I have to say I WAS AMAZED BY IT!! for one month straight I ditched my Fender Geddy Lee j bass (my to-go/all time favorite), and the 50s p bass (also my all time favorite). The built quality on this gem is SOLID! the neck was thinner than I thought which is good because I have smaller hand, it's almost as thin as my Geddy Lee's j bass! (this bass is also lighter than my GL sig bass) which is also good because as guitarists/bassists we all hate heavy bass or guitar! right? Anyways, I literally thought I was playing a MIA jazz bass because it doesn't feel cheap, however, after about two months or so I realized the tuning peg began to loosen up, so if I don't play it for few days it will detune. To solve this, I decided to modify it a little bit. I ordered Hipshot tuning peg as well as the Hipshot A-Style bridge and put them on. And guess what, it's now SUPER SOLID! and the string is tight af heheh (side note: on the hipshot tuning peg you can adjust the tightness of the peg! and for the A-Style bridge you can adjust the spacing between all 5 strings!) Now this bass is officially not a Squier bass anymore after modification hahah. Btw I duck taped the logo because I still HATE when it says "Squier" on it lol! I might scratch it off someday and put Fender on.

Astounding for the money.
Fasy delivery from Reidys first of all. Beautifully finished and sounds like a proper fretless should. Not too heavy to wear either. The ebonol fretboard is a dream and easily generates natural and harder to find harmonics. A very lovely rasp can be had from the notes when vibrato is added and glissandos and slides sustain forever when compressed. I ran it through my boss pedalboard bcb60 which has compressor, chorus, reverb, overdrive and a looper in there. Jamming to some percussion loops I loaded, I quickly got drawn to funky and jazzy riffs, firing off harmonics and slides as the groove took me. The fretless to me makes you play differently as you can show more soul. When chorused and compressed up, this is the Jaco sound you seek! Never mind the logo, this is one great guitar and I think these will become sought after in years to come like the Tokais and the MIJ basses from Fender of yesteryear.

It's all about d bass!!
I had the fortune to go for this bass after listening to p basses and jazz for many days on YouTube and for me and the sound I liked, this bass won my purchase. It's a little heavy, but not the heaviest from research, but it feels very solid and under close inspection, very well made. It is smooth to touch and the narrow fretboard allows the hand to glide up and down freely. It has a great sound which you can adjust with the tone control and also playing closer to one pickup more than the other to get the p or the j sounds. I am a beginner, but like to think I have an ear for a good tone and this guitar has it. I have read many reviews saying this sounds just as good as a top of the range Fender, and although I don't have that experience, listening to this, it wouldn't surprise me. I am delighted with it and was delighted with the seller getting it to me so quickly. May sound silly, but I fee this is my new best buddy!

This is about as good as it gets for a decent quality Squire Jazz ...
This is about as good as it gets for a decent quality Squire Jazz Bass. It plays well, got a good action and stays in tune. It is mainly a choice between Rosewood Precision versus Maple Jazz but you have both available on this Amazon site so choose carefully but in both cases you will be choosing well. On a final detail when you purchase a Bass or any other Guitar you need it to balance well, so you don't need to support the Fret board from dropping towards the floor when you lift your hand, this instrument balances O.K. this point also applies to choice of Carrying Case.
