My partner makes traditional windmill cookies with this spice blend. It's really delicious and adds the traditional flavor he loves. We have also used it in place of apple pie and pumpkin pie spice and prefer it over everything else. It also gives that unmistakable kick of old world flavor to my grandmother's apple strudel recipies she got from her grandmother that other spice blends cannot seem to match for giving us that last touch of authentic flavor. This blend has all the warmth of nutmeg, along with a slender bite of clove. It’s an elevated alternative to nutmeg or cinnamon. I add it to just about everything; chocolate chip cookies, vanilla cake, banana bread, cherry pie, and, of course, Snickerdoodles. Speculaas is the bourbon of baking; the spice is smooth and full bodied, and pairs with sweets, savories, or fruits. I add bourbon to just about every dessert, too. What can I say about that? I purchased numerous items from Boston Spice and have never been disappointed. The items are fresh and come in airtight tins. The samples included in the delivery are a nice touch, too.
