Best Tool for Dovetails
This is my 3rd different saw from Suizan. After trying a variety I can safely say this blade simply does it better. The nadle is long and easy to grip and the blade cuts like butter on hardwood. As someone who enjoys cutting dovetail but always seems to struggle with getting clean easy cuts this saw has been a massive helper and greatly improved my cuts. The saw is well structured, sharp, and meets the functional needs to be a great tool. I also like that the blade width isn’t too wide.

Delivered as advertised, great tool.
My old flat saws had finally given up a busy life, so reluctantly I ordered this Suizan Ryoba Double edge saw. This thing is a cutting beast. I've clung to my old saws like lifelong friends and at 70 years old and doing woodworking for most of them, I realized I've been putting forth way too much effort in sawing with my badly worn flat saws. When I put the Suizan to wood, I was put back at how effortless and swiftly the saw went through hardwood. My old saws were beginning to drift off square a tad, but the new Suizan Ryoba slipped throught the wood with ease and perfectly square every cut. This saw is a value, is extremely sharp and cuts true. Buy one of these things. I think it deserves a Haiku, Saw saw so swiftly Dust of wood to earth raining Awe the masters hand.

So far so good!
Packaging is great, and assembly was very easy. It looks well-made, and right away I tried ripping through a scrap of hickory. Slowly but surely, it cut through. I’m more or less a beginner woodworker, but I feel like it came pretty dang sharp and ready to cut just about anything. It was easy to use, and I’ve never sawed wood by hand before. I quickly start to get a feel for it by trying different techniques and noticing how the saw and the wood respond. Also, if you flick the blade, it makes a super sweet ringing sound! If you’re using this to build guitars like I am, it doubles as a percussion instrument. It will make some cool samples. I think it’s well worth the price and I’m excited to use it when I get my blanks in the mail.

Good enough but consider single blades
I have a Z rip-saw with original blade I've kept alive with occasional acid baths since 2014, which is by far the best saw I've ever owned. But it's dulling, and I couldn't get a blade replacement overnight. This was available overnight so I figured I'd try something different. I see no problems with the sharpness, did what I need it to do. Cuts walnut like butter and rosewood like walnut. One thing I do like with the double blade is the wood types and grain directions of my glue-ups get crazy and flipping to the other blade quickly if I get stuck is super helpful. The downside is on a tight cut, it gets stuck by the opposing teeth finding their way into grain on occasion. It's also a slightly shorter stroke. Safety also. I'll definitely use it, but slowly get a new rip blade and buy a separate cross-cut saw. (honestly, the rip blade usually does the job, why I never originally acquired a cross-cut) I do have an issue with initial setup. The blade bolt was sent tightened way too much. It's a Philips on one side and slot on the other, but given there is originally no blade, it was tightened such that the bolt protrudes into the slot. So how do you unscrew the bolt? The whole assembly just spins, and you can't get a flat-head into the slot to hold it steady. I found a scrap of metal that fit well enough into one corner of the slot that I was finally able to unscrew the bolt but about broke my fingers doing so.

what a great saw
First time I have used a Japanese saw. I bough this so I could very carefully remove a 5" piece of molding around a door frame while it was still on the wall. This worked perfectly for that job. also used for a few other things since then. The design, including the pull cut, just makes it easy to get a cut started.

Amazing saw! Buy it now!
Couldn't be happier with this! It cut through bolivian rosewood like butter! It's a good beginner handsaw and is very easy to use. It's comfortable and has a nice light weight to allow longer use! The teeth are sharp, and exact, the handle is light, and the assembly process is easy. One screw, and done! Functions exactly like you'd think. The handles allow easy grip. The length is as advertised with a 9.5 inch blade. Would easily buy again, and will buy another Suizan product!

This saw turned me into a restoration hero
I suggest saving $10 and buying the unassembled option. However, this saw is worth several times the price. I needed to cut through round log furniture to make modifications. After watching two videos for ten minutes, I made near perfect cuts without breaking a sweat. Over the next few weeks, I used the saw dozens of times to restore furniture that had been in storage, all because the saw is so accurate and so easy to use. The high quality of this saw is impossible to describe, a great value!

I didn’t expect much difference between a standard Western cut saw and this Japanese back cut saw, but I was genuinely surprised. It’s easily one of the best wood saws I’ve ever used, smooth, precise, and a pleasure to work with.

Muy notable diferencia! Excelente herramienta. Yo esperaba poca estabilidad por no ser “de costilla”, pero con movimientos controlados, la precisión, estabilidad y calidad del corte son superiores. Gracias Japón!

I bought the "Assembly Version" because it was way better priced than the already assembled version. Everyone should just buy this version to save some money, because it doesn't take much time or effort to put the thing together. The blade was very sharp, but arrived with the teeth on one side discoloured. Kind of looked like it got too hot when the teeth were being cut or something else happened to them during shipping. But they were in otherwise good condition and I had no issues cutting with them. Some teeth on the blade did chip a bit, because I found some tiny sharp metal on the ground, but I could not tell exactly where on the blade it broke from. The handle wrap feels cheep, like it would unravel if I removed the plastic from it completely. So I've left the plastic mostly on. I still get a good grip with it while wearing work gloves. In the future, I might try wrapping it in something else. I've been using it for while now and it's still extremely sharp. I like the fine cuts I can make while using it. It can also take a moment to get used to using, so some practice might be needed. If you aren't careful with how you hold the blade, you can get some very crooked cuts. For a project, I needed to use it on a bunch of different plywood, and I had a few issues cutting it. If this blade ran into knots or other obstructions, it would slow down drastically or get stuck. But some plys were easier to cut than others. I would buy this again, but just the blade since I already have a handle and know how to assemble it.
