The Ramayana: A New Retelling of Valmiki's Ancient Epic--Complete and Comprehensive (Cornerstone Editions)

I have read two different translations but this is a particularly beautiful one. The way the dialogue is shown and the character's responses is really heart warming. Yes, it is a joy to read.

I loved every bit of it, such a heartwarming story. One could almost imagine the scenes playing out. As a child and even as an adult growing up in a Hindu family, my only knowledge was a very short version that occurs during Diwali. I would get a glimpse of my father reading the Sanskrit poem version very occasionally he had kept for decade's and always wondered why he has so much love for it. Now I truly understand. It is one beautiful mythological story I would definitely recommend reading!

The translation captures the feeling of this story in a way that only somebody who transcends the three guans regularly can.

Beautifully written, the book just flows smoothly on, it is a joy to read. The story is so clear and the descriptions of characters and scenes bring the story to life. It is easy to pick up the deeper meaning. A must to read!

I've grown up listening to this epic tale on TV and through stories. while i read the whole book and enjoy this epic tale in indian History; it lacked a lot of detail, missed the points of the orgins and messages.

Wonderful! I just finished reading this book, “The Ramayana” and it was a totally enjoyable experience. What struck me right from the beginning was the way in which I found myself responding to the book. I immediately found myself settling down and locking into a most pleasant silent focus. In this natural response to the book, I found myself involved in a wonderful world of silence in action that permeated throughout all of the dramatic ups and downs of this epic adventure. The story itself just flowed beautifully, as written by two very obviously talented authors. Clearly they had a complete understanding of not only the various events that took place in the story and the implications they had in each of the characters lives, but at the same time they revealed the enlightened inner life of these characters. This look into their inner life I found especially enjoyable. All of this was brought to life in its many colors and the resulting effect it had on me was a feeling of deep goodness. In today’s world of tumultuous conflict and seemingly never ending corruption, it seems as though we are continually overrun with a serious lack of ethics, character, honesty and any sense of morality. How refreshing it is to be able to sit down and read of the many characters in this story who do in fact represent all the best there is in these qualities. But this is especially so of one, Rama himself. He is the perfect embodiment of right action who at every turn, no matter how intense the circumstances might be, always within the blink of an eye does the right thing. So refreshing! A feel great book, great entertainment, educational and inspiring. Buy the book!

First time I read the Ramayana was about 35 years ago - small paperback, very endearing story. About 12 yrs ago I read the complete edition 3 volumes long - enjoyed it. This edition by Egenes and Reddy is the best yet. High praise to the authors for what they selected to highlight, endless rewrites and their collaboration. Noticed in the acknowledgements they sought the input of many others to make sure they were getting it right - good move. Books of high spiritual content have a distinct quality of consciousness to them that extends beyond the written words. This particular book has touched me deeper than the previous depictions of this high epic. I've felt an emotional charge that has moved my soul, brought me to tears on some occasions. I've already bought more copies for others to share this experience. Blessings to all who took part in this effort and may the intention of this work continue to move the seekers of Truth toward their highest goal.
