It sticks to the bare/painted metal of a 30 year old vehicle well. I used it to cover the back hatch of a xj along with the wheel well areas and the back hatch and I still have several feet that I intend on putting on the floor boards when I pull that carpet up later. Since I had the cat stolen from me... The jeep is loud and this helped calm down the noise in the cab so I can hear things again. Without a decibel meter I cannot tell you how much the reduction was but... The rattle from the back and the feel in the seat is better. There will need to be more put in to fully help. This was the cheapest material I could find for the size, it works well and covers quite a bit of area. I would buy it again and I probably will when I pull the headliner down. As for heat, summer is coming and I am hoping this helps keep the back cooler. We will see what happens.
