So much better than my old Meater — the range is fantastic!
I upgraded from my original Meater to the MEATER SE and it’s a noticeable improvement in every way. The Bluetooth range is dramatically better — I can walk all the way to the living room (about 50–60 feet away) while the probe is in the grill or oven and the connection stays rock-solid. No more constant “lost connection” warnings like I had with the older model. Everything else feels upgraded too: the probe is sleeker, the app is smoother and more reliable, and the temperature readings are spot-on every time. I’ve used it for steaks, chicken, pork roast, and even a whole turkey — all came out perfectly cooked. The ambient sensor is accurate, the charging block is compact, and cleanup is still super easy (just wipe it down). If you have an older Meater and get frustrated with the short range, this SE version is absolutely worth the upgrade. It’s now my go-to thermometer and I honestly don’t know how I cooked without it. Excellent product!

UPDATE: Meater Reached Out to Help!
It never works consistently. Have tried every troubleshooting suggestion but still loses connection often. I hold my breath each time I cook with it hoping it continues to work because when it works, it’s great. But never knowing if it will work through the whole cook, I really need to buy another brand. UPDATE: After I wrote this review, Meater Customer Service reached out to me and told me my probe was still under warranty and if they couldn't fix it, they would replace it. And they did just that! Apparently, something was wrong with my Meater. I am extremely impressed how Meater contacted me and offered to help! The Customer Rep, Mostafa, who assisted me was patient and so helpful. I would very much recommend this product knowing they cared enough to reach out to me to make it right! I'm very pleased to have my defective product being replaced! Thank you, Meater!

Not worth having
Maybe I got a “lemon.” Maybe they’re just not as good as they were originally. Seems a lot of people have had good results but we sure didn’t. Pros: was excited to have a device that would enable me to keep the lid down on the smoker and monitor long cooks on large cuts of meat. 1. Battery life was longer than expected, that was good. Cons: failed on all counts except battery life (maybe it lasted longer because it was hardly working). 1. Probe wouldn’t stay paired even when base was within 12” (and on the smoker, this meant rigging up a cumbersome place for it right in front of the lid, as it wouldn’t work at all off to the side where the table surface is - even at about a foot away from the probe inside). 2. Phone app, when paired (and I did try the method mentioned in another review among other ways), would lose signal *inside* the house if not kept in a direct line to the smoker, through a window and within about 15’. Outside, I could get about 20- 25’ before it disconnected. 3. “Estimated cook time remaining” was a joke. It would say “5 minutes remaining” for hours. (Although maybe I should have believed it when it first said that- see #4) 4. Temperature readings were woefully low, both for the internal monitor and the ambient. Instead of believing my smoker, and later my oven when the 10lb chuck roast came in to finish - I steadfastly stuck with the probe’s readings, which meant I kept increasing temperature on the smoker and the oven to keep the roast in range (shooting for 225-250° ambient). Result? A beautiful 10lb chuck took over 16 hours, was “finished” at 2am (after waking every 20 minutes to check the app), and was reduced to a dry hunk of jerky. Needless to say, I returned it and will go back to my tried and true (if a little less convenient) standard meat thermometer. What a sad waste of time, sleep, shipping efforts, and materials. I have since purchased two different oven thermometers to check the accuracy of my smoker and oven, and both stay within about 10° of their set point. My advice is to try something different and save your money on this one! Maybe you’ll get one that works - but there’s a good chance you won’t. If you do get one, I’d compare readings with a trusted thermometer for the first few go rounds to save yourself some headaches- and some meat!

5-Star Review for MEATER SE: Solid Economy Upgrade with Minor Trade-offs
I'm giving this 5 stars because it's excellent for what it is—an economical upgrade to the original MEATER. I owned the first version, which lasted for years. When it finally broke, I was looking for a new model. It seems product development has diverged into two paths: one advancing thinner thermometers with greater heat resistance and cloud features, and the other focusing on maintaining the core features with slight hardware and software upgrades at a more affordable price. The MEATER SE follows this second path. The MEATER website and product detail pages don’t clearly differentiate the models, so it took some research to determine the differences. The MEATER SE was a good fit for my needs, so I opted for it over the more feature-rich units. It’s exactly what I was looking for, with updated software that remains as helpful as ever. Pros: *Affordability: Provides essential MEATER functionality at a lower price. *Improved Software: The app is updated and still highly user-friendly. Minor Cons: *Probe Sharpness: The probe isn’t quite as sharp as the original, making it a bit harder to insert into tough chicken or turkey skin. *Charger as Bridge: The charger now serves as a "bridge" between the probe and the app. In the original, the phone had to stay near the probe in the oven, or I'd get a message to move it closer. Now, the notification says to bring the charger closer. Moving some tech to the charger probably boosts the probe’s max ambient temperature, but I'm not entirely sure. Cooking Performance: When using this thermometer for high-temperature cooking, like Sara Moulton's "Blasted Chicken" method (baking at 480°F or as high as your oven will go until reaching 165°F internal temp), I noticed that the MEATER SE tends to overshoot the target slightly. For example, during the resting period, it sometimes goes up to 175°F after notifying me to remove the chicken. While not ideal, it's manageable, and the overall performance is still very reliable. Overall: The MEATER SE is a solid, no-frills choice that meets basic needs well. It’s an affordable upgrade with a few quirks but remains a great product for those who want reliable, straightforward performance without the extra features.

Fantastic Thermometer
This item is nothing short of brilliant. Can be used in all kinds of cooking appliances and cooks the meat perfect every time! Takes a little bit of practice getting used to it but once you have learned it is very easy to use! Advertised as takes up to 275 degrees external so will work at any temperature I need. Is expensive but is one of the cheaper models in the range and works just as well. Highly recommend.
