Absolutely work as a humane deterrent for cats, but beware snow may irreparably damage them!
As a lifelong animal lover, the sudden surge in cat ownership during coronavirus lockdown should have been a welcome addition to the community, but instead, with the sudden transformation of my front lawn into the neighborhood latrine, I actually found myself sympathizing with Mary Bale, the infamous Coventry "Cat bin woman"! I tried many solutions, none of which seemed to work. I must admit I was skeptical at first, but I can say these devices do work and are 100% humane. To begin with, there was still some digging and fouling, but it noticeably moved ever closer to the boundary of my property until it stopped altogether after about a week. We bought 4 to cover all the likely entrance points and give nearly 100% coverage. The setting intensity of 4.0 worked for us. The local cats now still pass through our garden but evidently are no longer comfortable relieving themselves within the area of effect. We live at quite a high altitude and this winter has seen a few blizzards already with strong winds and moderate snowfall which buried the devices. Two of the devices then stopped working completely despite replacing the battery packs and spending several days in the sun. If snow is anticipated they should probably be removed to a sheltered spot for the duration, else the risk is they will be irreparably damaged. I was disappointed at the speed at which the fouling (in both volume and frequency!) started up again with the reduced coverage. The marketing material had suggested a learned aversion would set in after prolonged exposure, but this did serve to emphasize the evident effectiveness when working at full capacity. Perhaps a full year of use will be needed to ingrain the effect! Otherwise, relatively low maintenance is required so you can set and forget. Don't bother with the non-solar version as they are a waste of money, despite costing less. Placement should be facing the likely entrance points of your property but not facing a public footpath or road else the battery will be drained faster than it can recharge.

The dogs no longer leave poo in our garden
I have a good experience with this repellent: 1/ We had a problem with dogs going to toilet in our front garden. I wanted something that: A/ doesn’t need to be charged, B/ has adjustable distance (sensitivity) and C/ has adjustable frequency (this makes it versatile for other animals/sizes of animals) I’m satisfied with this repellent and would recommend it. I’ve improved it by A/ replacing the supplied batteries with higher capacity, as there isn’t much light here in winter. This is very cheap improvement and makes a difference. B/ I’ve covered the battery compartment with heavy duty weather resistant sellotape as I was afraid water will get in. C/ once I found the right distance and frequency, I marked it on the dials so that I don’t forget it. I also hardened the soil around it, so that it doesn’t move if strong winds come. We’ve had them now for four months. They’re working very well. I’m waiting for winter, if they survive it. But we do t normally have snow here and frost is exception. I had to test few frequencies (recommended in the manual) and after some time the dogs stopped coming to our garden. The blue light is very useful as it lets you test when the repellent is triggered. We have a pavement in front of our garden and I didn’t want the repellent to get false triggers from passing people and dogs. This would deplete the battery fast. The repellent has a dial to adjust the distance/sensitivity. I tuned it to 6 metres which is ideal. The repellent manages a large area - the angle at which it gets triggered is large. By having two, I was able to cover all entry points to our garden. The steel pegs are very strong, so I did’t have problem placing them in dry soil. The only negative is that the sound can be heard. So when I am gardening or washing the car and it gets activated, I prefer to turn it away from me or switch it off (by turning the dial to zero.

These do not work
The light worked on day one, left it and went away for a few weeks and as I just returned to my property, there is only one still switing on the blue light and all others are just dead. Cats poo all over and even right in front of them. I just noticed the window to return has past. I am genuinely after a working solution to deter stray cats from using my loan for a toilet. I am interested to testing the sensor water spray one. Please let me know how We can make this owr. Also, I must return these other ones as they do not do the JOB. And before you ask, it is under plenty of sun and in Portugal. Thanking you for your understanding N.

Noisy to humans, cats not bothered.
Every cat is different they say, but these have failed to be a cat repellent to our locals! They came as a twin pack, and were easy to set up. Unfortunately one failed after a couple of months. The one that still works is most annoying to humans!

Works well but has weatherproofing issues
Seems to be working well deterring cats from fouling my garden. I was sceptical at first but with a little adjustment for placement, detection range and frequency emitted they’re doing the job. Downside is the build quality though unfortunately. They claim “fully waterproof repellent, can be left out in any weather”. Well what is it? Waterproof or repellent?, these are two different things. Waterproof suggests an IP rating of IP6x, but there’s no IP rating mentioned. So this is misleading. Plus the gasket that comes with the battery compartment lid is terrible. Mine were separate and I had to install them myself. They were squashed and misshapen and I have no confidence they are useless so I made my own seal with silicone grease which itself is not waterproofing but rather repellent. Time will tell with the solar charging and general longevity. Since I’ve had them only a couple of weeks I can’t comment on those.

Didn't deter cats
Although the sensors worked well and was waterproof it didn't appear to deter local cats even when setting was adjusted..
