A hybrid album that was released to coincide with the movie of the same name which Paul Simon also starred in. However, the album and film feature different versions of the same tracks and both feature unique songs. This new release has been remastered and includes bonus tracks. The album spawned the Grammy-nominated, "Late In The Evening" which became a top ten hit in America. Yes, I do agree to some extent that there could have been a better construction of the plot in the film, but hey Paul Simon is a very gifted singer/ songwriter, not a screen writer or novelist. I have always admired his talent for creating beautiful and melodious music with equally appropriate stream of consciousness lyrics in each song. I came across his music ( from Simon & Garfunkel time) for the first time whilst rummaging through my late father's old vinyl collection in the early 1970's and loved it instantly. This album is a product of the late 70's and it's been a while since Paul Simon embarked on his solo career, and by then my interests in music shifted from this to more mainstream rock & pop music of the 80'. So I wasn't too sure what I expected out of this album as I didn't have much inkling as to what kind of songs he produce around that time line. But one opportune moment made me purchase this album recently and I was pleasantly surprised that the album has lots to offer: ' Ace in the hole', 'Jonah', 'God bless the Absentee', 'Long, long day' and 'Late in the evening' to name a few. You can forget about the lukewarm review of the film and instead enjoy listening to this album. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars I blame Mum for this one. I got to hear it once or twice, but never did any more than that until hearing the title track, probably last year and thinking, 'I'd better see if I can get the album!'Well, thankfully, it's still available with all its goodness. To have the .mp3 version as well as the backup CD should the downloaded version go wrong is a huge bonus. Love all the songs, love Paul Simon.Happy memories. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars Worth a listen *by L***E on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 March 2016* It may not be up there with the best of Paul Simon's work, but it is certainly a lot better than many of the reviews said when it was first released. I haven't seen the film for which it is the soundtrack and nor can I get hold of it unfortunately, but I suspect that I might be able to relate to it a lot more easily if I had. However, as with a good deal of Simon's later, more difficult work, it's actually a grower and as I continue to listen to it, I am warming to it more and more.
