Is this one sufficient for a 13 year old beginner geology student or would the 22oz one be better?

The 14oz is fine for any one. If it doesn't do the business on a rock outcrop you should be using a club hammer and cold chisel.

"Whats it made of are' or is the This a Lifetime type tool ?

I've used estwings before, borrowed I'm afraid but I use mine for fossil hunting as do many geologists I know and it is highly recommended. So I bought my own.
