I've been fly fishing for about 50 years, I bought this as a general purpose rig for my wife, who is a beginner. This is a fantastic beginner rig. The rod is a little heavy but it casts sweet, it's just effortless to cast accurately -- it'll reward good technique. I've always thought of fly fishing reels as glorified line holders, this is a *really* nice, lightweight line holders with a drag that works. The line will be fine for your first season. The flies aren't very helpful but the box will be handy. All in all a great value. UPDATE: We've had the rod for a year now. I should give it 6 stars for durability, it's still like new. We've caught some darn nice fish, it's a good lake rod. For stream fishing, it's starting to hold wifey back a little, due to weight and recovery (it's actually not *that* accurate, come to find out), so she is getting a new rod. I'm keeping this one because it's a GREAT bass rod. I think I'll over-line it, prob true 6 or a heavy 5 (the line is comes with is pretty basic). Catch me some fish by gum. The reel is fine, there's not much to fly reels for most freshwater fishing scenarios; long as you're not trying to haul in a San Juan piggie on a 6x leader it's fine. Set the drag barely tight enough to where you don't get a squirrel nest every time you strip the line and it'll serve. I'm still gonna give it 5 stars cuz this rig does what it's supposed to do, and then some, for a great price. A serious trout fisherman will outgrow it fairly quickly, but we still feel it was money well spent.

Absolutely love this kit. I replaced the flybox with a higher quality one (which I already broke lol) I bought this for a leave in car rod that I can just take anywhere, the small pouch on the side has enough room for a small double sided flybox (Lots of nymphs and midges, but I have one side full of wooly buggers and dry flies.) and a multitool for cutting and pliers, a bag of strike indicators, a bag of small bobbers, and Rod handles beautifully, very accurate and good has good casting power. Reel feels good, and the pole feels durable. Every thing looks as sharp as it does in the picture. The fly line is actually pretty decent as well. Overall I am completely satisfied with this purchase. This pole is beautiful, breaks down super small so I can leave it in my car and fly fish when the opportunity rises. Works FAR better than the $250 dollar outfit I bought at bass pro shops. I Will be buying another pole from this company

I haven't had a lot of experience with super high end stuff, and cut my teeth fly fishing on dads old cheap gear. This setup has continued to impress me. The reel feels almost frictionless on the retrieve, and the drag is smooth throughout an impressive range of pressure. Very nicely made and I have no problem holding onto this reel for years and years to come. The rod seems well built. The dots for lining up the pieces are off which is a pain, but not the end of the world. The guides are well adhered and straight. The reel seat is smooth and the threads are smoother than I'd expect at this price point. But the handle seems to be coming apart a bit after a few months of fishing. I can feel a click during the casts. Hasn't failed yet but when it does it will be a good excuse to upgrade. The flys are trash. Poorly tied, no head cement, I can't tell if these are supposed to be dry flies or nymphs or what. Tried a few and they unraveled fairly quickly. I didnt have a chance to try the line as it was tangled and knotted before it could get on the reel but that was my fault. The case is fine, does its job well enough. The nippers are useless as well. Blades dont line up and dont come close to actually cutting line. Overall though this has been a fantastic purchase for me. The rod and reel are the big selling points here. And for the same price as a cabelas or bass pro kit this completely blows them out of the water. And I dont mind taking the setup places they might not come back from or leaving it in the car since it's so cheap.

Very nice fly rod and entire kit! I have fly rod and gear from top brands like Orvis including fly line and leader. When I say this entire kit does not disappoint, I mean it does not disappoint! I was skeptical of the line that came with it, but as you can see in the pics it’s catching blue gill, bass, crappie and more (salt water coming soon)! The line floats very well, without any treatment! The casting is smooth with very good distance. The line lands pretty gently on the water and I haven’t had any issues from the reel whatsoever. This is my 2nd fishing rod from this brand, I initially got the collapsible plus this fly rod as rods to teach others how to fish…intending them to be disposable. Turns out they’re very well made, stylish and very functional so they’re my new favorite and best kept secret! If you’re just starting out or a pro I highly recommend this kit and brand to add to your fishing arsenal. If you’re just starting to fly fish, this is without a doubt you’re go-to setup. Buy this first before you wrack your brain deciding which expensive combination to go with, you’ll love your purchase and your decision. Every rod/reel/line/flies you get in the future will have to need surpass this before you spend your hard earned and saved up money…because you’ll see that being a fly guy/gal isn’t cheap! Well as they say you get what you pay for. Rod is pretty good. Has medium action in my opinion. Very cheap guides. But they work. Alignment dots are useless only one dot on each section noting to align to on the adjoining section. The reel seems to be okay. A little small for the amount of backing and fly line they give you. I had to cut off about 75’ of backing so the fly line would fit. Fly line came in a loose roll not on a spool. Be careful or you will be in a tangled mess for an hour. All aside you can take it fishing.

Overall very pleased with the purchase. I have some time before I hit the water, but the Sougayilang Fly Fishing Rod Reel Combos is everything needed to start learning to fly fish. Countless Youtube videos, knot tying... wealth of knowledge awaits. Very excited to try my hand at fly fishing for the first time. Thank you for having this quality rod and reel combo.

Not well made at all, the tip snapped off the 4th or fifth time I used it when I was casting

I have not had a problem with this kit yet, but I have not caught a fish on it. I hope to get out to some more plentiful waters. I would have loved to have had this as my first fly rod. The rod itself has a great action, a nice medium moderate action. I wouldn't consider it a fast action. Fast action rods are a little stiff in my opinion and I have always preferred a more moderate mid flex rod like this, something I can actually feel the little fish hitting my nymph. The rod handle is not a high quality cork, but it does seem to be holding up. It has a manufactured handle with a cork appearance. It is not a pure AAA+ cork. It seems to be a Portuguese Grade AA. The reel seat is CNC machined aluminum with two locking rings which will make the rod slightly heavier than a comparable more expensive rod. I like the metal reel seat though for the durability and the corrosion resistance. No part of the rod has broken yet or become lose as I have read in other reviews. Seems to be solid. The handle is a little thicker than I would normally prefer, not as slim as some more expensive rods. It isn't too bulky though, still comfortable. The reel is absolutely gorgeous. The gold and silver plating is nice and has been holding up. The ad says it is a CNC machined aluminum, which is better quality than a dye casted aluminum. It has a very nice disc drag and the direction of the drag is interchangeable by flipping the center barring direction in the spool. There are videos on youtube from Sougayilang and other manufacturers about how to do this. Check it out. The rod and reel are both excellent for the beginning angler, even for the intermediate angler who wants a back up, extra rod, or a loaner... Maybe your're like me and you actually prefer it to some of your more expensive gear just because the action of the rod is what you like. I enjoy it very much. All other accessories included with this kit are great if you need them to start. I could probebly be like other reviewers and recommend upgrading the line to Rio, Scientific Anglers, or even Cortland... but the kelly green Sougayilang line that is included in all honesty isn't really that bad. It cast and catches fish just fine. It does everything I ask of it if not more. It lands delicately fishing a dry fly, and accompanied by the rod action it roll cast like a dream. On a traditional cast it is smooth and pairs nicely with this rod. The backing is backing, not much I can say. It's backing that should function for it's purpose just fine. The leader in this might be okay for small dry flies, you'd be best to get a better leader you're going to need a new one anyways down the road. The case and rod sock seem to be fine. I will be fishing with this kit exclusively until I catch a decent fish. The flies that come with this kit are not the best tied flies and they have some pretty crazy colors. They are all attract patterns, but you shouldn't through them out. I have seen blue gill and small bass go after a cigarette butt, so I am sure they will at least provoke a blue gill or something. The nippers are nice and I will try to use them. Over all this is a great kit, I would preferably replace the line with some RIO mainstream after a couple of seasons, but the Kelly green line it comes with should service a guy for two seasons.

Great combo and outstanding value. It unfortunately came damaged and with a broken part. Contacted their customer service and new parts were sent out within a few days after getting all the relevant info - amazing. The rod performs well with the supplied line - not a sage but very good considering the price. The reel is very smooth so much so it will free wheel on retrieve - a little resistance or clicker would be better. The drag is even but have yet to test it on a big fish. The only issue is the line capacity of the 5/6 reel- it will only hold about 30 yds of backing with the supplied fly line which appears to be a 6 wt. The magnetic fly box and clippers are good and functional but the flys are not. Other than that I have no problems recommending this outfit for beginner or occasional fishermen who don't have unlimited funds. It is also refreshing to find a company that stands behind their products and offer outstanding service.

Received my order well ahead of promised delivery date, I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of both the reel & the rod, the only down fall was a 4wt line being supplied as the rod is a 5/6 weight, but that’s no biggie. Cheers guys for a good all round value for money entry level package. 👍🎣

Qualità canna e mulinello okay...l'unica pecca il manuale che non aiuta assolutamente per far le attaccate, le mosche che dopo 3 lanci si smembrano e la fly line senza occhielli che ha la stessa dimensione tra inizio e fine...nel complesso funziona...ma non molto soddisfatto
