He immediately knew to climb on and sit. At first, he was wobbly on it but in just a few tries, he has learned how to keep his balance and scoot along with his feet on the floor. Do note: When they first start out, it will tip and even fall over. That's part of the teaching. So I kept a hand on the back of the seat just as if he was learning on a big-boy bike. We use it only indoors on an area with a rug.
