At first, I didn't like the jaws on this version as I was used to the non- flat jaw type which fit around a hex nut. They also work on steel pipe, although 'footprints' or stillsons are more suited for pipe tightening. They have taken abuse over the years. I only bought a new set recently as the old set's teeth are slightly less sharp after 15 plus years of exposure to water, flux, chemicals, and daily use. The blue handles started to slip off after 12 years and I taped them on. The 12 inch version is large and powerful enough for most jobs.
