MDF Sprague (MDF767-BO) Black Only (so far) Stethoscope
I ordered this as a gift for my son who will soon be graduating from our local fire academy, so this item is not for my personal use. I did open the box to remove the name tag so that I could have some special engraving done for it. I ordered this Sprague because I used one while in the military serving as a Navy Hospital Corpsman. I was impressed with the design's ability to pick up sounds that I was unable to hear with the typical military issue 'scopes. In addition, most of the physicians I worked with were also using Spragues at the time, and they highly recommended them to me. While the 'scope became a great tool for me, I was always reminded that what was between the earpieces was the greatest tool I had. So it was with great anticipation that I opened the box to see what the MDF folks had wrought. The instrument was delivered quickly and with no damage to the packaging. Initially, I liked what I saw. The 'scope came with all accessories that were advertised, and the 'scope was longer than I thought it would be. This will be advantageous in many of the medical situations my son finds himself. The name tag looks to be of the size that legibility is large enough to easily discern, but small enough that it should not snag on his turnout gear. There are 3 adjustable tubing holders that should prevent, or at least adequately reduce artifact during auscultation. The bells turn and lock into their detents with no problems noted. The metal tubing for the earpieces seem tight, but still allow significant flexibility and should provide some comfort if longer wear periods become necessary. OK, the bad (sort of): I ordered the MDF767-BO (black only) model, and upon removing the 'scope from the box noticed that the black coating (paint ?! ) on the spring had already started to come off. There were several minor spots noted, but there should not have been any on a new instrument. There didn't appear to be any primer applied, and the substrate looks like brass (It was gold-colored.). What was amazing - at least to me - was that the coating looked like paint when it should have been either powder coated or possibly anodized. If the coating starts coming off the substrate during packing and shipping, I can only imagine what the 'scope might look like after several EMT/fire responses. I think manufacturing (materials choices and processes) and quality assurance may need some improvement. That's why I can't give this item 5 stars.

You are able to hear the lungs and heart clearly!
Excellent stethoscope, my nephew has had some breathing problems and requires respiratory treatments. Me being a nurse. Bought both his mom and grandmother these. They work really well and are able hear his lung fields clearly. Face it the opens the hospitals send you home with are cheap and hard to use.

Covers all your patient needs
It is a great stethoscope. I prefer the rappaport to single tube

Not the Rappsport Sprague of yore
Decent stethoscope for the price but not close to the quality of the original Hewlett Packard

Works as expected.
I am an EMT student. I had bought a cheap stethoscope at walgreens and I had zero chance at hearing a blood pressure or lung sounds. Luckily, while doing my ER externship, someone stole it. Thank God, take that trash outta here. Anyways, that made me need to go out and buy a new one. Usually I am pretty cheap, but seeing as people were starting to think I was incompetent and couldn't even get a blood pressure, I decided to actually spend a little money on a real stethoscope. I am glad I did. I was able to get this one in time for my ambulance ride alongs and wouldn't you know it, I COULD HEAR! I was able to hear the blood pressures clearly and the lung sounds were good. I am a newbie, so I can't tell you how it compares to a Littman or anything like that because I'll never spend that much on tubes. I would recommend these to my classmates. Only downside is that the tubes rub, but really I expected as much and it doesn't really bother me.

Leuk voor hobby, niet for prof gebruik
Leuke uitgebreide set, echter slecht hoorbaar in detail. Jammer want leek zo hoopvol.

Great value
I bought this as a spare when my Litmann diaphragm cover was lost and I was finding a replacement cover. The stethescope is good with good sound quality. The two tube design (which is one reason I bought it out of curiousity) is fine though is a bit more restricted than a single tube design. The tubes are slightly shorter than Im used to but overall its a good stethescope and for £30 I have no complaints. Whether it will last 7+ years like my Litmann I am unsure but it is about 1/3rd the price and I wouldnt have any concerns using this stethescope for the forseeable future. Certainly a fantastic spare.

VG Lina

Cheaper Instrument than Littman..... Duration of Life Uncertain
The product came with a slightly different tubing, not quite as shown in the picture. I remain unclear about the "Lifetime Warranty" and "Free Parts for Life Program".... effective selling phrases but there really isn't any clear mechanism in the package by which a customer can get parts in the future if needed. The quality of sound is better than the Littman at a fraction of the cost. In the end, my loyalty lies with the brand that delivers the most years of life for the cost of the instrument. The Littman company has started using cheap binaural spring that breaks after 1-2 years..... what a silly idea to include cheap chinese import. With this innovation they have lost me as a customer forever. Any company, that will manufacture longer lasting instruments deserves support..... Time will tell how long MDF Lasts.
