after a year of experimentation and reading, it all comes down to Cod. the cats love it, there's no underhanded factory practices, and the delivery is swift. Try it and be doing the right thing at the same time. highly recommended.

This is a rich texture pate' but not solid like most other commercial kinds of pate' & it has sufficient moisture PLUS it is HOLISTIC food for all life stages! "All life stages" is one very important characteristic of good cat food. THERE ARE NO FILLERS! & NO carrageenan. I am not sure if the added spinach do cats any good, but it smells divine & one quirky characteristic I found is that the aroma is better if put in the frig before serving. I once again put it in the frig the morning before I went to work, served this to my kitty in the evening & she ate all of it--it just enhances the aroma, that's all. There are cranberries listed toward the top & it lasts well in the frig with the original aroma when put back for later in a covered container. Yes, I found out the best aroma comes when it has been in the frig for a while--strange but true. I have a few tiny dessert-size oven to table containers so I put remaining food in these tiny containers & cover with celophane & the next day the original aroma remains the same!--that means it is quality food. My kitty eats all of it, so unless I open two cans at once, there is no need to put any back most of the time--but you can & I have saved some for the next morning! This food demands a tiny extra time in the mouth for swallowing because of the rich texture. As always I want to emphasize that dark meat is more indicated for cats than white meat. It tastes better, adds fat & is less dry. White meat is only a people pleaser. Natural flavor? is that MSG? Here is one answer: MSG "should" otherwise be listed as MSG. Their site says "NO artificial flavors", preservatives or colors. This is Holistic food! The definition of natural flavor under the Code of Federal Regulations (for people) is: “the essential oil, oleoresin, essence or extractive, protein hydrolysate, distillate, or any product of roasting, heating or enzymolysis, which contains the flavoring constituents derived from a spice, fruit or fruit juice, vegetable or vegetable juice, edible yeast, herb, bark, bud, root, leaf or similar plant material, meat, seafood, poultry, eggs, dairy products, or fermentation products thereof, whose significant function in food is flavoring rather than nutritional” (21CFR101.22). INGREDIENTS: chicken, chicken liver, chicken broth, cranberries, spinach, carrots, natural flavor, sweet potatoes, alfalfa meal, flaxseed, guar gum, salt, potassium chloride, taurine, dl-methionine, choline chloride, cassia gum, xanthan gum, salmon oil, iron proteinate, zinc proteinate, vitamin E supplement, thiamine mononitrate, copper proteinate, manganese proteinate, sodium selenite, niacin supplement, d-calcium pantothenate, pyridoxine hydrochloride, riboflavin supplement, vitamin A supplement, biotin, potassium iodide, vitamin D3 supplement, vitamin B12 supplement, folic acid. The aroma I think comes from a combination of good chicken & added ingredients. My concern is that they put peelings in with the sweet potatoes so if there are any toxins from the peelings they all get into the food--white potatoes contain peeling toxins & as a European I shudder at the thought of eating peelings. I only presume this but I am not sure. I think no one would peel sweet potatoes for cat food--I know the other brands DO NOT PEEL the potatoes. This food is carrageenan free! AND without the toxic supplement Menadione Sodium Bisulfite (source of Vitamin K)--(The Material Safety Data sheet on Menadione-sodium bisulfite states: “The substance is toxic.") Update Dec 14, 2015. I opened another can a week later & it seemed not to have the original great aroma, but I realized that the best aroma comes out after it has been in the frig for a while--unopened can OR portion taken out & put into a container. My kitty ate all of it--including the second can at the same time--I opened a second can to try to figure this aroma thing out. The unused portion remained fresh & aroma fresh until the next morning. All was eaten & enjoyed!

I like the I and Love an You Products. My cats do, too. Seems like good ingredients. No carageenan. No grains. Miki likes the cod recipe out of all their canned flavors, so that's his special treat now and then. The two cats like the turkey, next favorite But unsure why they don't like the chicken. We also buy the dry food. I'd like to ween them to the wet, but cats are cats and know what THEY want, so it's slow going.

This is hands down, my cat's favorite canned food! I've got a picky eater who I can never quite figure out. She'll even stop eating foods she seemed to loved before and there's no rhyme or reason for which foods are hits and which aren't. Needless to say when I first saw this brand come to Amazon, I was hesitant. My mother sent some she picked up at a local store as a present though, and boy was I surprised! Even when my cat loves a can she often will leave at least a little in her dish that she never eats. But with I and Love and You, that is never the case! My girl generally loves fish and the flavor my mom had sent was the Oh My Cod. So first I was feeding just that. Branched out to the chicken and same thing, she loved it! At that point I ordered my first variety pack here on Amazon. I prefer to buy variety packs in general because one way I minimize both wasted cans when she refused a food or flavor as well as seem to keep her happier, is by continually switching it up. Many brands don't sell variety packs either so I love that I and Love and You does. Extra props to them for the types of flavors they combine. My girl doesn't seem to care for beef so I was happy to see that wasn't included. That said, I was still wondering how the Turkey would go over. Can't go wrong with fish and she goes back and forth on chicken. But turkey has, in the past, been a flavor she didn't seem to care for. But wouldn't you know it, she loved the turkey too! In fact, the first can I fed of it she ate faster than usual. So we are batting ten for ten here. There is not another variety pack or brand where she consistently loves every flavor included so consider me wowed! My little house panther also has a sensitive stomach. I didn't feel canned food for a long time and then not very often because she would throw up a lot from it. Then she ended up having kidney issues so it is now a daily part of her diet. I have never yet been able to narrow down the source and we still run into issues now and then. One thing that does seem to be a factor is quality. Cheaper foods definitely make her sick more often. Yet it can also be very difficult to navigate the pet nutrition world and much like in the woeld of human nutrition, pseudoscience and trend foods pop up. I can't tell you if I and Love and You is the best you can buy by any means. Perhaps not. But she's never gotten sick on it. I still feed a variety of brands and figure that helps mitigate any potential nutritional issues on one brand over another and keeps her interested. But I and Love and You has remained her absolute favorite and I always feel like I'm giving her a special treat when I feed it to her. The price is right also, lower price for a quality grain free, meat first food, but not so low I'm skeptical. So both my wallet and my Kitty's tummy are happy! If you've been debating giving this a try, do it! Neither I nor my cat can claim to speak for all felines but it's not only approved by this finicky feline, but favored. I think that's really saying something. The price is great. Quality is consistently good can after can (something that can't always bee said). And I'm feeding my girl something that's good for her yet feels like a treat because she loves it so much. That's a win-win and it's such a relief to have found this brand!

This is a preliminary 5-star rating based on first impressions. I may change the rating if the food causes problems for my megacolon cat in a few days. Background: I have 4 cats whose ages range from 3.5 years to 14 years. The oldest is female and the younger ones are males. My 7 and a half year old cat was diagnosed with megacolon at 10 weeks old so I've been dealing with this all of his life. His condition is managed with medications 3x per day and pate foods with water and stool softeners stirred into each meal. The older female objects to this practice but definitely benefits from this addition. My two younger boys eat dry food mostly but enjoy churus for breakfast every day. in addition, I also serve the boys fish in broth usually from Reveal. Historically, my megacolon cat and the oldest ate Wellness brand pate until they raised prices during the pandemic and then I needed a less expensive alternative so after weeks of research, I settled on Purina Beyond. this kept my megacolon cat safe except there were medication shortages which caused a couple of hospitalizations. Last May, one of the varieties became discontinued (his favorite) so I began looking for another food. Initially we tried to go with Wellness Senior but the two older cats wouldn't eat it. So then I switched to Weruva but it turned out that some of their products contained tapioca starch which caused my cat to back up again. All of this switching made him stop eating and the ingredients caused a severe blockage which resulted in a 24 hour hospitalization which required 3 enemas to unblock him. It was scary and I was afraid I might lose him this time. So when it comes to choosing a food for him, I take this extremely seriously. After a thorough review of the I and Love and You brand and a deep discussion with Google Gemini, comparing it to the PB brand, I decided tto try the variety pack which was on sale and several dollars below the price of PB. I opened the can of Turkey first yesterday just to see if they were interested and I couldn't keep them away from it! I assumed it was because I let them taste it without any water or stool softener. But I have to say that the turkey smelled like Thanksgiving day to me with turkey and potatoes. It truly smelled better than what I was eating . Today I tried a little experiement and gave them half a can of oh my cod, and half a can of the PB cod. I stirred water and stool softener into both halves and then gave each cat half of each brand in their own dish (so a quarter of a can of each brand) and both older cats immediately, without hesitation, scarfed down the I and Love and You brand of cod and walked away from the remaining half of purina. My oldest who is really finicky and submissive, even pushed the younger and bigger male out of the way to consume what was left of his portion of the I and love and you brand cod. I was sort of shocked but also extremely happy. The only one I haven't tried yet is the chicken but I expect to have a similar response. One of my younger males also enjoyed the turkey food but was not present for today's Cod. Given how much they liked the pate, I decided to order a bag of the I and Love and You dry cat food to see if the younger boys will like it/prefer it over their purina beyond dry food. If so then this will be a permanent change. As for the pates, I loved the intro price of 12.79 so I bought 16 cases of it because the savings will allow me to try the more expensive flavors to see if my cats like them. I was interested in trying their XOXO line until I learned that one has tapioca starch which is something Weruva used that caused my cat to back up so unfortunately I'll skill this product line, but I did order a gravy variety pack since it only had guar gum in it and he is okay with that. the real test however is to make sure he can pass this new food without any problems, so I won't knonw the answer for another day or so. If he can't pass it then obviously this rating will change to 1 star and I will return all of the product. If the 5 star rating remains, then know that all went well and this brand can be trusted for megacolon cats. the only thing I really do NOT like about this brand is it's grammatically incorrect name which I find extremely difficult to pronounce and as a person with ASD, it severely bothers me that it is a structurally incorrect sentence. This kept me from trying the brand last May when I was experimenting with finding a permanent replacement. If all goes well, this is our new food. Even though I can't pronounce it to tell anyone on social media lol.
