iSpring EDV2 Whole House Electronic Water Descaler, Salt-Free System

It's been about 4 weeks since installation and I'm slowly but surely seeing results. I have a 600' deep Artesian well that provides domestic water for the house. It had lots of sediment, and some fine particles in the water, but otherwise, the water tested much better than any municipal source, or even my spring box water. No contaminates, and no need for mitigation, but I did have some mineral scale. Over time, the toilets, shower, dishwasher, and tankless water heater were affected. Rather than buy and install a whole house salt filtration system, I opted for the iSpring EDV2 electronic descaler. Installation was easy as there are no pipes to cut or fittings to be installed. The most time consuming chore was to carefully wind the blue coated magnetic wire around a 24" stretch of pipe. Yes, I was a bit frustrated at first, so I grabbed a folding chair for comfort, and some blue painters tape, and set my sights on the task. I wound 10 circles at a time, pulled them tight, and taped them in place with the blue tape. I continued with 10 winds at a time, straightening, tightening, and taping as I went along. This worked for me, and now the wire is set perfectly in place. Mounting the device to the wall, connecting the blue wire, and connecting the power source were straight forward and simple. At first, I saw no real benefit from the descaler, but iSpring, and other users stated it can take 1 to 3 months to clear the pipes, and eliminate any scale. After some time, I noticed the interior of the dishwasher was not as streaked as it had been. Hot water came up faster from the faucet, and the shower chrome had fewer scale deposits. I'm hopeful the iSpring EDV2 Whole House Super Water Descaler with its 100' effective range will work even better as time moves on. In full disclosure, I do use an iSpring automatic spin down sediment filter and iSpring 20" whole house filter body and cartridge. If the manufacturer's products work, why change brands.

This product is an electric water ionizer. The product includes plastic tie wraps, power cord with low-voltage brick, and full-size color illustrated instruction manual. The product is packaged in a decorated white cardboard box suitable for gifting if wrapped. See attached detail photograph of product installed above a white polymer water pipe. My home is serviced by a community water well. Iron is removed from the water but lime is not. I have a Whirlpool water softener that uses salt to remove lime from the water. Unfortunately, there are members of the household who are night owls and often upset the night cycle of the water softener. Weary of this, I was looking for another solution to softening the water for the household. Enter this product. Although I am always intrigued by the use of electricity in unexpected ways, I was skeptical of the claims made for this product. Nonetheless, I decided to give it a try. Installation was straightforward. The color illustrated manual helped. The key to installing the product successfully is to understand the direction of water flow within the pipe where the ions will be activated by the device. Once that is understood, the second key installation step is to wrap the red and blue wires in the correct direction around the pipe. If this is done correctly, then the stage is set for the device to operate and ionize the water which then prevents lime from settling on the inside of pipes and water fixtures for a fixed distance beyond the device, 40-50 feet of pipe. One of the claims made for the device is water fixtures such as showerheads will have better water flow after the device has been installed for a while. Again, I was skeptical. To my surprise, in a few weeks the water flow to the upstairs master bath showerhead increased. By taking a bristle brush and rubbing it across the showerhead, many clogged openings were cleared and the showerhead began to be behave like new. I was amazed. Further, a function switch on the showerhead that had stopped working began to work again, and it was again possible to switch the showerhead from a fine mist to a course spray and to a single spray. This proved one of the claims made for the device: The device does not only prevent lime from settling on the inside of pipes, it also removes previous lime deposits, which is amazing. In summary, if you are looking for a simple and effective water softener that does not consume salt, consider this product. I was skeptical of its claims but now I am a believer.

I purposely waited a few months before reviewing this item as I wanted to be sure it's doing what it says; and frankly that's not an easy question to answer. Install is fairly straight forward. Just follow the instructions and wrap the wires in the direction of water flow as described. Plug it in and then....what? Unless you can get inside your boiler there's no way of knowing for sure the deposits are being released into the water stream. You would have to wait 5-10 or more years to see if you get more life out of your water tank. Here in CO we have hard water w/ lots of minerals; my last water heater lasted about 7 years so I still have several years to go to see if this product extends the life of the new boiler. Barring testing water prior to installation and after (which I did not do), how can one tell if this thing is working? First, the science is there. I researched quite a bit before purchasing and multiple sources indicate this product does descale minerals from pipes and water tank. Second, it's hard to be sure but when standing in the shower it does seem the water feels a bit softer on skin. Rubbing fingers together under a flow of water seems slicker and smoother than prior to installation. The problem is this could be a psychological effect of "wanting it to work"...hard to be certain. Finally, and most notably for me is how my skin has reacted over time. CO winter air is beyond dry. The years I've lived here I need humidifiers constantly running, bottles of lotion used and still would be itchy most of the day. This winter however there is a noticeable improvement. My skin is not nearly as dry, I am not using lotion like I was and I do not itch anymore. For me this is the true indicator that the product is working. I'm not going to call it 'soft water', but it has the same effect as soft water which is all that matters to me. For the price this was a good solution and totally worth it.

Let me first say that I prepared for this purchase by researching the recommendations the manufacturer had mad before buying it. I knew I needed water within a certain hardness range, <3 ppm iron, and that it would only be good for 50 ft of pipe after the wrap. I tested my water and it was all good so I went ahead and bought it. Luckily, I have two water inlets to my house because one end is an addition. This allowed me to easily install the unit while observing the 50ft pipe rule. I have a total of maybe 30 ft of pipe after the install, with the hot water heater being within 10 feet. Within the first week I noticed that the water felt different and my soap was getting my hands cleaner. I used to wash my hands and have a slick feeling like my hands were oily still (I have oily skin/hands) but I noticed that when I would wash my hands they were very "sticky". Not really like I have syrup on my fingers, but if I tried to slide my fingers against each other after washing and drying them, they'd feel more like I washed my hands with something that took off all the oils. This is very anecdotal and not really something you can say is a definitive thing that a person might think is just in my head, so now for the hard evidence. I have a mirror in the shower that I use for shaving. I have to scrub it with gritty toothpaste every time I use it to clean off the deposits. It takes about a week for it to build up to the point that I clean it. Well I installed this after I didn't shave for about 6 weeks and decided to touch up a little after it had been installed for a month. I cleaned off the mirror with toothpaste and got to work. I decided that maybe this could be my test and started checking it weekly to see how it was going. So far the only thing that sticks to the mirror looks like soap scum (I have my bar on a caddy that has a hook below it where the mirror hangs) and I can just wet it and wipe it off. Maybe it's minerals but they aren't sticking to the point that they require anything to remove. Just my hand and water. This is all I wanted from this thing. Reduce the deposits that were difficult to clean/remove and hopefully extend the life of my hot water heater element. I had a brand new hot water tank when we moved into this house, and after 8 months the element was toast and the bottom of the tank was full of deposits that I had a hard time removing (read chisel, vinegar, and many flushes). I have had this installed for about 3 months so it's not been near long enough to tell how it works for the longevity of the hot water heater, but it's worth it for the cleaning hassles with the fixtures. My wife loves it. All in all I'd recommend it 100% if your water meets the requirements or can be conditioned to meet them. Otherwise, I have no idea, but I doubt it'll work outside what the manufacturer says it will. I will be buying another one to install on the other water inlet to the house, which is the one that supplies the kitchen.

This iSpring EDV2 does not work as described. Been using this for over a week now and unfortunately there is no change or positive difference in the water. Absolutely no results. The iSpring EDV2 unit is installed at the main waterline for where it first enters the house so it can work from the start of the entrance flow, but no results. I have city water, which is already clear and clean to begin with(Aside from the common bleach smell), the issue trying to be addressed is the scale and scale buildup. I made the purchase based on reviews (Some good, some bad) but wanted to give the product a fair trial. I fully understand this iSpring EDV2 is not a water softener, the goal was to reduce down scale and build up (As the product describes, it is a descaler) but there is no evidence that it’s performing this task. In the product overview manual it reads “ After 1 week: You may notice the soap lathering more easily and effectively. Scale in pipes, water heater elements (Immersion rod heaters), and tanks break down. Small particles might be observed in the water from the hot water tap, though most broken-down particles will be microscopic and not directly observable. Then it goes on to describe how you won’t see “fully noticeable results” until after 3 months or 12 weeks. The issue with this is the return window is within 30 days. This isn't an ideal situation. The words used are passive, such as “May Notice” and “Might be observed” ; there is no positive reinforcement concerning the performance of the unit. I will have to uninstall and return before the 30 day deadline. Pros: The iSpring EDV2 is small, does not take up much space Simple and easy to install Aesthetically appealing Cons: No evidence that the iSpring EDV2 descales as it is described to do The blue ion cord is so long that most average plumbing pipes installed in regular households would not be enough to accommodate the length of this cord. Suggested time of use is 3 full months or 12 weeks, return window is 30 days. Not ideal for consumer satisfaction No support

(Updated to address claims for 1 month and 3 months) I live in a very small house where there is no room for a full house water softener, so I decided to try this descaler. I placed it on my PEX pipe right before it branched off to its various locations, all well within the 50 foot limit, probably within 30 feet. The installation was simple, as others have mentioned. The most difficult part was laying in a small crawlspace while winding the wires around the pipe. Day 1: More lather - This is the first time I've seen lather since I moved here and this was with the first shower after installation. I knew at that moment that the descaler was working. Week 1: Breaking down scale on water heater heating element and water pipes - My water heater is only a year old, but was losing the ability to maintain hot water. After one week, this issue has been fully resolved. No more lukewarm showers. Week 2: Loosening of scale on faucets and showerheads - My faucets are no longer developing stalactites, and sink drains are not coated with white, crusty film. 1 Month: Less time for water to heat; reduction of scale on showerheads, pipes, and faucets - I see a noticeable reduction in scale on my showerhead and faucets, and have had no need to clean them beyond general cleaning, no more scraping away crust. I've also seen a significant amount of scale come out of the faucets (I remove and check monthly, with the first month resulting in large chunks of scale). 3 Months (I'm addressing just 2 months in since these issues have already been resolved): Disappearance of scale from showerheads; scaly crust in toilets is significantly reduced and no new crust should form - True on both claims. The most amazing was the total disappearance of scaly crust in the toilet, which has been an annoyance since I lived here. It looks brand new now and requires only normal cleaning. I am very pleased and surprised at this simple solution. This product has resolved a handful of issues that I've had with hard water. Without room to install a water softener, this little gadget has saved the day.

Lots of debate about these devices, but being retired I had the time to try one. We live in Peoria , AZ and the water is very hard and has lots of scale. Even with soft water and whole house filtering , it is tough water. Installation was easy but I made the decision to add a spin down filter, pressure gauge, install cutoff valves and braded stainless lines. Instructions say it takes 3 months to see results, but after a month, the water does seem to feel a little better and some scale appears to be disappearing around the kitchen faucet. Will wait and see. Was fun installing though. Unable to register for warranty from website. Had to email company and submit invoice to complete the process. Three stars for now.

Update 1 year in: still working like a charm, and now the faucets furthest away from the iSpring have developed some white calcium residue that we have to clean semi-regularly. It’s minimal, but noticeable. This is because they’re so far from the iSpring unit that its effectiveness is diminished, so I take it as further evidence that the unit works exactly as described. I shudder to think of all my faucets looking like that (or likely worse). I might buy a second and install it to mitigate this, but still one VERY happy customer! Original review: I purposely waited 7 months to write this review, to give this iSpring device a fair shot to either work, or…well, not. We built a new home, so new pipes, faucets, appliances, everything. We’re also on a well here, which was new for us to get used to. The well water is really good—basically filtered mineral water, healthy and pure right from the tap with a TDS of around 550. BUT!…that also means in our first month we began to notice white chalky deposits on our taps and shower heads, and some powder on the glasses/silverware after using the dishwasher. We learned it was due to our high TDS well water, and needed a way to protect our new home’s plumbing and appliances somehow. The conventional wisdom was to install a water softener, but besides the cost we also didn’t want to add salt to our excellent tap water. So I did some pretty exhaustive research and settled on this device instead. It seemed a little like science voodoo, but I figured if it didn’t show results in a month or so I’d return it and get the water softener if I had to. Well, it did show some results, and then some more. It seemed like magic at first, but the shower heads just stopped having powder and sediment building up. The dishwasher did the same, and the taps seemed to run clearer too. We noticed the water felt different when washing—at first we told ourselves we were imagining it, and maybe we were—but soap began to sud better, and washing hands or in the shower felt less “scaly” than before. Also less water spots on surfaces. Then it just kept happening like that, and seven months after install we have absolutely no powder on the dishwasher we use almost daily, the shower heads look the same as the day they were installed, and the water has a “softer” feel. It’s NOT actually softer at all—the TDS is about the same, and the six month water test at both the well and the tap are basically identical to when we first moved in. So I’ve experienced enough to say for us, this thing works—works like a magical charm!—money well spent and im so relieved not to have to put salt in my water and maintain a softener system. I also sleep better knowing the dishwasher, washing machine, and fridge won’t get gummed up with the great minerals that are in our well water. A few items I’ll note here that might be helpful (as others’ were for me as I researched this): our well water is moderately hard, and the hardness mostly comes from calcium and iron. I don’t know how effectively this device would work on other types of hard water. We also are fortunate to have an indoor water heater and a large crawl space, so I was able to install the device after the well pump but before the water heater (this protecting it as well, I hope). So the iSpring is covering both our cold and hot water, which may not be possible in all well system setups. The install wasn’t difficult, but wasn’t exactly simple either. At one point I had to call the customer service line, which was picked up promptly by someone like it was a cell number!…and after I recovered from my surprise at getting a real human right away, he talked me through the issue I had (direction of wire wrapping) and solved the problem in short order. Last, this is the 7 month mark only—I’ll return to update if issues start happening past 12 months. Since I have a brand new plumbing system, anything that occurs will be a good benchmark for the longevity of this product. Overall, I’m an iSpring convert—it works for us, and has made a huge difference in our water quality and confidence that our new really expensive appliances won’t get gummed up with mineral deposits. It still kind of seems like magic, but science can be like that…and, so what, it works! I’m a happy customer.

Well, this was easy to install. After 3 loads of laundry, there are no more white streaks on the dark clothing. With any luck, there may soon be less scale in the kettle!

Very easy to install. Been 3 weeks so far, noticeable difference. I only have moderately hard water but still enough to have calcium buildup almost daily. I never wanted a water softener (with the salt) so I've just put up with the issues, for example, coffee machine will stop working after 3 or so weeks & need descaling and shower/ toilets etc have constant buildup. Read booklet included! Because it does loosen buildup in pipes which will come out in faucets/washing machine etc in first few days. I've seen more than one video/review with people complaining & showing that as proof it doesn't work. It's supposed to do that! But once you're through that it's awesome! I did descale/clean everything before installing this unit so I could see how long for buildup to return...so far nothing anywhere & soaps etc lather much better. I'm very impressed & wish I'd bought one much sooner. However, if you have extremely hard water I don't know if results would be as good?

I thought the science on this device might be a bit dodgy but, given the unaccountable increase of limey deposits from my well water in recent years, was desperate enough to give it a go anyway. In the end I was a bit surprised to find that the device did indeed work but - and this is absolutely critical - only once I’d installed an iron/manganese filter. They do advise this in their instructions but I’d imagined iron wasn’t a particular issue in my case. Not so as it happened. Buying a filter in an attempt to vindicate the descaler seemed a bit of risk given the filter’s considerably greater cost and the uncertainty that it would work. It’s nice that the gamble paid off and my toilet bowls can now be cleaned occasionally with only a brush and a bit of liquid soap.
