So This is Christmas: (The Adrien English Mysteries Book 7): Volume 7

I love Josh Lanyon's books and particularly love Adrien English, so this was a real treat for me! It was great to catch up with Adrien and Jake and catch a glimpse of their lives. I really enjoyed this novella. A soupcon of mystery, sprinkled with family issues, wrapped up in a lovely New Year's ending. Highly recommended.

Well, this was a lovely Christmas present for fans of Adrien English. Adrien is as sharp as ever, and Jake... Much as I have often wanted to give him a clout around the earhole, I always felt this was the Jake hidden beneath the surface. Lots of cameos in this - Guy was hilarious; Lisa was Lisa (pulling a runner? Hmm). Natalie...bless her. Can't say much more without spoiling the story. There's a mystery, of course, and there's the book shop, a road trip, and lots of Adrien and Jake just being a couple. It's wonderful.

3.5 stars. How fabulous to have Adrien (with an "e") and Jake back for a Yuletide special. All the elements of the original series, the humour, the mystery, the brooding....but.....in my humble opinion, a less than spectacular plot....quite disappointing frankly....a bit of a cop out. The writing as ever was great (one or two edits required with those adverbs, some too close to one another, but hey....what the hell, didn't put me off, this is a short, a novella no less....no padding. I really liked it.

It was so worth the wait for this, and in a way I'm glad it didn't come any sooner. The ending of The Dark Tide was so intense, so nearly tragic, that any immediate follow-up would have been almost anticlimactic (though the two or three little snippets we've had have been reassuring!). But now it is here it is everything I could have wished for. It seems so natural to slip back into Adrien and Jake's world - the shop, the familiar characters, the allusions to past events - but with the added comfort of observing how worth the wait their relationship has proved to be for them too. Difficult emotions are not glossed over, but the overall feeling is of love and hope. The case involving Kevin from A Dangerous Thing blends in nicely, and there's even talk of seeing Pine Shadows Ranch again, one of my favourite locations. The first five books ended, for me, with a satisfying resolution, but now Josh has opened up a way forward, and I shall be happy with as many more glimpses into Adrien's world as she will grant us.

A nice story in which Jake made up for all of the times he was an a.hole in past books. If you followed this series this is the long awaited for conclusion. I suspect that there may be another story in the series, if not, I'm satisfied to leave it here. Well written, as usual, from Josh Lanyon.

This was a delightful coda to the Adrien English series. We have Christmas, families and a mystery to solve. Best of all we see Adrien and Jake finally both having the chance to work on their relationship. Josh Lanyon gives us Christmas magic.

Awwww yessssss this was lovely. Adrian and Jake have just come back from their trip to England and, have to deal with chaos in Adrien's shop thanks to the staff, and a mystery involving Kevin, from an earlier story. Jake helps, the mystery is solved, the chaos in the store calms down a bit. It makes me happy to see how much Adrian and Jake's relationship has progressed - they care for each other so much, even when they're disagreeing about something. Anyway, it's all satisfying and had a lovely happy ending and I felt all warm and fuzzy.

It was good to have another Adrien English book again. It was not quite the book I wanted, but it was good but short. As to the short stories come interviews, I don't think they really worked.

It's a really satisfying reading if you are a fan of Adrien English Mysteries. We reach full circle in a really enjoyable novella. The mystery is accessory here, which is a pity because Mrs. Lanyon do write really good mysteries, but we're here for the boys after all and they complete their voyage in a really satisfactory way. The whole series is worth it!

I loved this. I loved everything about it. I shouldn't write a review because I can't write coherently about this one. I love Adrien-with-an-e and Jake, and I've read and re-read and read the other novels and I never get tired of them. Josh Lanyon made a smart move ending the series when he did for nothing is sadder than a once great series that gets milked and milked until the reader tires of it. But with the Adrien English series, we have five wonderfully atmospheric novels with a charismatic and likeable couple (or, in Jake's case, not-so-likeable in the beginning) and it ends exactly when it should, i.e. when it hurts to let go. So when I stumbled across this one I snatched it up with a proper Nazgûl screech and carried it off and devoured it. It's been a while since we've had news from Adrien and Jake but it takes JL less than one Kindle page and all the old feels are back. It's all so comfortable and familiar and you slip right into the story like you would slip on your favourite jumper. It's all there--the feels, the unique atmosphere, the sound (can you talk of sound when reviewing a book?). I all but screeched when Jake uttered his first 'uh-huh' because DAMN I missed him! I missed both of them. All of them. Even Angus! So yeah, here you have an all new story with all the ingredients that make JL such a great writer and storyteller. There's a decent story and there's great dialogues and there's atmosphere and believable, real-life characters. There's not a lot of s*x, there never is in JL's books but when JL does write s*x, you bet it's going to be very, very good. (Well-written, that is, for sometimes things go wrong and JL doesn't shy away from awkward/funny/not-too-hot, and that's what makes it very, very good IMHO) And here, the s*x scenes are very, very, VERY good because DAMMIT JAKE!!!! And the ending? In the hands of another author, the ending could have been painfully kitsch-laden but JL gets it exactly right. I'm not ashamed to admit that I cried at the end. Reading the last scene felt like watching LOTR/Return of the King, "My friends, you bow to no-one", because this is where I always lose my shit because it's just so overwhelming after all that's happened. Same here. I was just so, well, overwhelmed. This, too, will be read and re-read and read again. Make no mistake about that. See? Shouldn't have written a review. It's very much bring-me-my-smelling-salts-I'm-going-into-a-fit-of-the-vapours. Not sorry about it, though. Can I give 10 stars instead of 5???

anche in inglese le avventure di adrien english sono qualcosa di favoloso da leggere..e' divertente, spiritoso, giallo, erotico, nuovo , è un vero libro da annoverare tra i classici e tra i romance, se non fosse che qualcuno non gradinerebbe la situazione male to male..i personaggi a me piacciono, tutti e due sono ben amalgamati, ben descritti e io li amo evviva adrien english e jake riordan

Je ne suis pas une super lectrice en anglais, alors j'ai hâte qu'il soit traduit en français ! Une nouvelle enquête pour le compte d'une ancienne connaissance que j'ai été ravie de retrouver ! Et bien sûr plein d'amour entre nos deux chouchous avec beaucoup de tendresse et d'émotion ! La fin se termine en apothéose, l'auteur n'aurait pas pu me faire plus plaisir !! Merci Josh Lanyon !
