I exchanged the metal head for the plastic head **Q: How do you hang clothes to steam? Can you hang them from the steamer itself?** A: Yes, I use a plastic hanger bc the wood can stain your clothing. There is a spot to hang next to where you hook the hose at the top. Love this steamer. Word of warning, do not leave water in it when not in use. After each use, I take the water bucket out and allow it to continue steaming until the water in the machine is gone. This prevents spores from growing and prolongs usage of steamer I believe. **Q: metal vs plastic head** A: I would use heavy plastic gloves on both hands with people of any age. I found a package containing one glove on Amazon, but you need 2 for safety. I found well made gardening gloves at a discount store for less than $3.00. Please remember this safe tip. When you burn yourself, which you will certainly do without careful attention, and wearing gloves on both hands, Immediately get to the faucet as quickly as possible and run the coldest water possible on the burn site, (Even if you believe the burn is minor) this will stop the burning process on your skin and will nip it ending all damage. The faster you get your skin under water the less pain you will suffer and no scaring will develop. It works and is most important to remember this and teach your family this healthy tip most don't know. Never, anything oily like butter or oil of any kind. This is a nice place for the burn to intensify and cause more damage. I originally bought it to steam my Indian wedding outfits. Ironing them can be a pain/impossible with the amount of fabric and heavy embroidery. I had every intention of either leaving it at my mom’s house or returning it after the wedding but I couldn’t! I’ve never been a fan of handheld steamers since they don’t really work but this thing is amazing! Like others have said, it won’t make hard creases in your clothes if you want that but it is very good at removing wrinkles from clothes. Since purchasing it I’ve used it on everyday clothes, Indian suits, and even my husband’s shirts, pants, and suits. It’s worked great for our needs! Haven’t had to pull out the iron in months. The steamer takes a minute or two to heat up. It will make a bubbling noise when water in the tank gets too low to create a constant steam. I usually refill it when it’s about half empty. It works best if you hang the clothing item against a surface then press the head of the steamer gently against the clothes. I bought a hanging steam mat also to put against the door and prevent damage from the steam. For longer clothes I will hang it from the top of thecloset door because the lower the steam hose is, the less steam comes out. It’s much better it it’s higher. It’s a little pricy but definitely worth it! It’s made life much easier.
