ETC Stem Quill Fork

Very pleased with this item. I have an older mountain bike which was given to me and which was a little on the big side, resulting in me having to lean forward and down further than I found comfortable, which meant that I became quite uncomfortable over longer rides. The existing stem had no angle adjustment and very little height adjustment. Replacing it with this one has resulted in being able to move the handle bars both up and back towards the seat by quite a significant amount, resulting in a much more comfortable ride. The angle range is actually higher than advertised, going to around 70 rather than 60 degrees, though this is not marked on the scale, and I have it set to 65 with no problems. I have it at close to maximum height extension also. This set up has moved the handlebars up 7cm vertically and 6.5cm horizontally back from the old position, which is close to perfect for me, has stopped me moving forward on the saddle all the time and causes less back strain. The build quality is excellent, with all the nuts locking down solidly with no looseness. Fitting will be very easy if your existing stem allows the handlebars to be taken off without removing gear shifters, brake levers etc. In my case it was a bit harder because the old stem required everything to be removed on one side in order to remove the bars. Fitting to the new stem was easy however.For clarity, the stem itself is exactly 1 inch (25.4mm) in diameter, and so will only fit steering tubes meant for this size. My handlebar is also 1 inch diameter and this new stem seems to be made for this size. It may take slightly different sizes also - I'm not sure.Highly recommended if you want to adjust your riding position, and excellent value at this price.

Bought to replace the stem on an old MTB that I wanted to turn into a hybrid ride. I wanted a more comfortable, upright riding position for commuting, so thought an adjustable stem would do the trick, which it seems to have.It was better made than I imagined it would be, it is a budget accessory but it does the job and actually looks quite good on my old bike.My old stem was a slide-through type where by you had to push the handle bar through the stem, risking scratching the bar. The ETC Stem Quill Fork has a four-bolt 'plate' that allows you to push the bar into place then secure with no need to slide the bar along the stem before securing. Easy.A couple of things worth considering when using this stem:Like all stems, it has a minimum depth marker for inserting into the head tube that for safety sake must be adhered to (you don't want it coming out of the head tube whist riding).If you're looking to adjust it to the safest maximum height possible and adjust the angle of the bar upwards (for a comfort ride) then make sure your brake and gear cables are long enough to cope with the difference in height and angle your old bars were set too. In most cases they should be fine, but I was surprise how little leeway I had with my old cables in the new upright bar position.Overall pleased, I will see how well it does the job over the coming weeks.

These are vey well mage and high quality , the problem is the plug that keeps water out of the stem tightener angled hole is brittle plastic not rubber and it will break when you try to remove it , replacements are not available , hence three stars . Such a great pity . I did buy some rubber plugs that fit perfectly in Italy for 4.5 euros for three . But they are not available in UK .

I got this to replace a rusty steel stem on my old Raleigh bike. I'd been unable to find a suitable replacement from the usual bike websites, saw this on Amazon and thought that it looked perfect for my needs. The first impression on unpacking is the high quality of finish and construction. The range of adjustment is enormous, almost more than you could need! Fitting was a breeze! Remove the handlebars from the old stem, no need to remove grips, levers etc., remove the old stem, fit new stem, refit handlebars, adjust everything to your desired position and tighten everything. Time taken - about half an hour. It looks the business, really smartens my old bike up! If you need a 1 inch quill fitting stem, why buy anything else? Quality, finish and price make this stem unbeatable IMHO!!

making the restored 531 Dawes fit the now 60 year old that he bought in his prime 35 years ago was the need for a more upright position on the machine, this did it admirably..

Really pleased with this stem, it fitted perfectly and is very easy to adjust, and still feels secure. Slight manufacturing defect on the top in the coating, but didn't affect its use and I did buy from the Amazon warehouse so maybe why.

Very good value and easy to fit. My bike is fairly old and the quill stem was in poor condition making the bike unsafe. I was thinking of getting a new bike put thought I would try a new quill stem. This product solved my problem so hopefully my bike will be good for a few more years, in fact it the adjustments possible using this quill stem it is even more comfortable.

ottima pipa ben fatta. non conosco il mercato di questi accessori x bici non sono un appassionato. ho compr. la bici al supermercato quelle pieghevoli con ruote da 24 mi pare x capirci le vendono in tutti i super ma essendo alto era scomoda. ho allungato il canotto sella e tagliato la pipa originale sost. con questa ma i diametri non coincidono. ho aggiunto un canotto prolunga fatto da me in alluminio et voilà
