SANSI Grow Lights for Indoor Plants, 36W Plant Lights for Indoor Growing

So at this point I have purchased 3 different sizes of Sansi grow lights, 15, 24, and 36W over the past 3 or so years. They are all excellent bulbs, so bright it is annoying to have them pointed at your eyes. I was attracted to the Sansi brand thanks to a few online reviews, especially some that used their own spectrometers to confirm that these give a proper full spectrum including a little UV. I like to think my bird likes it too since she can see UV! I wonder if the UV helps with winter depression? In summary: I recommend the 15W for individual low-light houseplants, like a mini moth orchid, succulent, or mini African violet. I recommend the 24W if you have a small collection of plants. I recommend the 36W if you have a medium collection or want to grow a fruit/veg.. I recommend multiple 36W if you have a large collection or a small tree, but if you have that many plants you probably already know what you are doing. ;) Of note: Of note is that the bulbs do get hot after running about 12hrs a day, so it hurts a little to touch the diodes directly, and do not put them in lampshades that would restrict airflow. They do not run hot enough to affect the plants whatsoever though. I have to put my hand 1 inch away from the diodes before my hand detects it as being hot. I think the passive vents do a great job of directing the heat up and away rather than down towards the plants. Also of note is that there is an audible coil whine when any of the bulbs are on. This is not loud or obtrusive (I regularly have one about 3ft from me when I am studying), but it is noticeable if you have young ears. It is also worth noting that the light cone is fairly narrow/focused, so plants directly under the bulb get significantly more light than those around the periphery. This is not a bad thing; it means more of the light is efficiently being beamed on your plants instead of scattering around the room. Below is a comparison of my personal experience with the 3 sizes: The 15W was excellent for a tall desk lamp with a few mini African Violets huddled around it. It was insufficient for outdoor plants that like full sun such as Egret Orchids. I upgraded to a 24W once my plant collection grew to the dozen mark, so I could have a larger illuminated space to work with. Of note is that this bulb was visibly warmer in color than the 15W or 36W. It reminded me of a nice incandescent bulb's glow. I am not sure if this is a consistent thing with the 24W or if it was just my bulb. Otherwise, the 24W was actually my preference for houseplant use with my personal setup. I bought the 36W for a friend to use in a fish-tank sized terrarium, again, for the wider radius able to cover more plants. It is strong! It would be interesting to see if more outdoor semi or full-sun type plants would be satisfied by the 36W; it is a very bright bulb. As is, my low-light houseplant African violets needed to be placed an extra foot away from the bulb to stop from getting sun burn or bleaching. I would mention that the bulb is quite heavy at this point, so if you are using a flexible goose-neck lamp, make sure it is nice and stiff or it might sag under the weight. Tip: If you have a proper light sensor, it is super handy when setting up your plants around your new bulb. I resorted to the free Arduino Science Journal app on my phone to compare light intensity (in lux units), and using recommended lux levels from google for my particular plants. I get about 22K lux directly ~1ft below the 36W bulb, for example, but about 8k lux ~2ft directly below. I currently have my mini african violets arranged in a ring of ~2ft diameter, about ~1.6ft below the light. This gives them the recommended ~7k lux of light according to google.

Before I write the review, I feel I should give a warning. These bulbs get so hot that you may not be able to touch them with your bare hands unless you give them a few minutes to cool or using a cloth or something to remove the bulb. I have a rattan shade and a white shade that came with my lamp. I removed the cloth white shade so this bulb can have air. I would not advise using this light with a shade that is closed. Ok, so now let's get back to what you would like to know. I wanted to wait one week to see how my plants responded but last night my prayer plants were clapping. I purchased a rattan grow light floor lamp and a rattan hanging grow light, one with an 18w and the other with a 25w grow light bulb. Though the lights were "bright," I had no idea how not bright these bulbs were. Last night I moved the lamp with this bulb into another room to give my plants some extra light since it was gloomy all day. This north facing window gets great indirect sunlight on most days but at times the room can remain dark. Since I got my first bulb, I have been concentrating more on the plants in the upstairs loft and downstairs living room. A few hours after putting the lamp in the room, my Marantas were standing straight up!!! My plants don't usually move and if they do, it is very little. I read the leaves stands straight up at night but mine doesn't do that, and considering it did it in a bright grow light setting has me scratching my head. I could not believe it! This morning, the plants were flat so I turned on the 25w bulb that came with the lamp. Not much was happening so I put the lamp with this bulb back in the room. In one hour, the plants started moving again. I think they did better last night because the shades were down and the light was not diffused by daylight. It was diffused this morning with gloomy daylight but the plants responded! I love this so much that I ordered the 40w with remote that I will use in the loft and living room and add the lamp in the room with the Marantas. I know people have said how dangerous these bulbs are so I will never leave them on while I am gone, but unless you get a dud when it comes off the line, and use the bulb with good ventilations, I think you will be ok!

I had this bulb for a few months before it started flickering. I use these as a grow light so they are on for at least 12hrs per day, every day. I was outside of the return or exchange window on Amazon so I thought ah what a waste and stopped using it. I’m a big fan of SANSI 40w bulbs that look like this. I have had two of those working for a long time now, so I was disappointed this one did not last. I was looking at the company site one day and saw the support link. I thought why not reach out? Customer support replied and they went ahead and sent out a replacement bulb without charging me! I have it up now and so far it is working great. Hopefully it will last long too. I do wonder if it is this 36w that maybe does not last or if it is just the one bulb I received? Either way, I am happy Sansi replaced it outside of the 30 days. I will definitely be buying all of my grow lights from them from now on. They stand by their products. My one recommendation would be to not use any hoods on these. They are meant to dissipate heat based on their unique hollow looking design. They do get rather hot while in use but the heat generated is great for my plants in winter. Depending on how you set this up, it will not hurt your eyes unless the beam is aimed at you, which I don’t recommend for extended periods of time since it is strong.

Not sure if I got faulty ones, but both bulbs blew within almost two months. I purchase these and put them on a hanging light and they both went out. I thought it was the cord so I replaced it and nothing. Swapped bulbs and it worked. Contacted Sansi so we’ll see what happens. I love their other products so this makes me a little sad. Edit: they’re sending out two new bulbs!

Can’t really comment on how well this grow light works since I’ve only been using it for two days, and I will update my review once I’ve used it enough. My current review is based on the good quality of the bulb itself, I also like the broad spectrum and the brightness, although I do wish it’s dimmable to account for different light needs. I was able to put the bulb in my rattan floor lamp and it helps dress it up a bit since it’s not necessarily aesthetic on its own.

I’ve been using the SANSI 34W Grow Light for about 4 years now, and it has been absolutely awesome. This light has allowed me to grow massive, healthy plants completely indoors with strong growth, great leaf size, and consistent results year after year. The light output is powerful for its size, energy-efficient, and reliable long-term—I’ve never had issues with it burning out or losing intensity. It’s perfect for houseplants and makes a noticeable difference in plant health and growth, especially if you don’t have ideal natural lighting. If you’re serious about indoor plant growth and want something dependable that actually works, I highly recommend the SANSI 34W grow light. It has more than proven itself over time. 🌱💡. Last week I had to use their customer service for blown bulbs and it was top notch service and hassle free replacement.

Love these light bulbs! They produce so much light and because they are directional I can focus the light on my plants perfectly!

The good - The strength and quality of the light is impressive. It looks great and my plants grow beautifully under them. Tillandsias have gone through their life cycle several times. See photo attached. The not-so-good - The light is supposed to last 25,000 hours. I run the light 13 hours per day. The first one lasted a little more than a year before it just stopped working. That’s around 4,745 hours. I ordered a second one and it just blew out, about 3 years (14,235 hours). This time three of the “lens groups” completely melted out and dropped down into my terrarium (fortunately nothing damaged).

It was defective

I’ve tried many grow lights and this one is honestly one of the best for indoor plants. The light is very bright but still looks clean and natural, not purple or harsh. My hoyas and other tropical plants responded really well with healthy growth and better leaf color. It also doesn’t get too hot and feels much higher quality. Definitely worth the money if you love indoor plants.

Me encantan estás lámparas! Tuve que mudar por un tiempo las plantas del jardín a una habitación separada porque los gatos estaban acabando con ellas :'( Obviamente estando ahí no recibían prácticamente nada de luz solar ( excepto por una ventana pequeña). Compré varias marcas de luz artificial y ninguna les funcionaba, hasta que finalmente encontré esta marca en Amazon. Compré tres focos de 36w pero para algunas plantas eran demasiado potentes y tuve que alejarlas un poco. Pero para las plantas que requieren más luz estan perfectas. Incluso las plantas con flor empezaron a florear de maravilla, mejor que cuando estaban en el jardín. Sin duda una de las mejores compras para plantas en cuestión calidad-precio ;)

Lo compré porque en mi casa no entra casi nada de luz y me gustan mucho las plantas, algunas se me murieron y las pocas que quedaban dejaron de crecer, se etiolaron y en general no se veían bien. Ya llevan aproximadamente 20 días y ya presentan retoños, se ven más verdes, con brillo y las que tienen manchas más claras se están resaltando. Solo hay que tener cuidado de no exponerlas demasiadas horas porque se pueden quemar un poco las hojas o como en mi caso, que necesitaron hacer el cambio más progresivo. Lo único que no he podido evaluar es el consumo energético, pero vale la pena ver bien mis plantitas

My olive tree and calamondin are thriving under this light, pushing out new shoots constantly. Skip the lower wattage bulbs/cheaper alternatives, get this in the 36W.
