## Overview

The Golden Sea Hibiscus is a perennial plant that flourishes in full sun, producing large, eye-catching blooms. With a height of 24-36 inches, it is drought-tolerant and thrives in various soil conditions, making it an ideal choice for gardeners in Zones 5-9.

## Description

Preparing the Soil When planting hibiscus seeds, use the plastic trays that have about ten rows of little pots, two inches deep. Fill the cups with a fine potting mixture either Scott's or Sam Choice, and generously moisten the cubes before planting. With the point of an old ball point pen, place four holes in each cube. The holes should be twice the depth of your seed that you are planting. Nicking the Seeds Before placing the seed into the hole, nick the bottom of the seed. I know they are small, but envision a coconut with the husk on, the flat bottom side is where you nick, You might ask youself "Do I have to nick the seed?" The answer is "Yes!" Why? When you nick the seeds, you will see that you expose a little piece of white seed meat. If no white seed meat is exposed, throw the seed away. You will find that in some varieties, more than half of the seeds will not be good and if you planted bad seeds, you will have used up a lot of valuable space in your seed tray. Planting the Seeds Drop the seed into the planting hole using an eyebrow tweezer. Try to place the nicked part of the seed facing down. Although I don't know if this is necessary, I believe the important part of nicking is that it allows a little moisture into the seed's innards and promotes growth. Once your tray is planted, sift the potting soil that you are using and cover the seeds with this fine soil to the level of the dirt in the tray. I always dusted the trays with an application of SEVN, a fungicide made especially for preventing "damp off" of seedlings.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: This said hardy, so it will make it through the winter in Idaho?also, is it true that this flower I ordered is not blue like the picture?**
A: The photo was stolen from another nursery and then photoshopped to blue. To answer your question, the original photo was of a tropical hibiscus, not a hardy one. And of course, no such blue hibiscus exists.

I was so looking forward to starting these seeds/seedlings...very disappointed with the outcome!!! I am very familiar with the steps needed to ensure proper germination and growth, having started almost all of my flowers from seeds (not clones/clippings.) There was a disclaimer that only maybe half of the seeds would be 'healthy' enough, I diligently followed YOUR instructions on Amazon for starting these seeds, and my end result is I have ONE out of TEN that sprouted!!! Thank goodness for that lil guy, otherwise my yield would be zero! The golden sea-BLUE hibiscus were to be the pride of ALL my different hibiscus collections!!!! Now, after over a month later, my one and only seedling is about 2-1/2 in. tall and seemingly doing very well :) I am trying to be as optimistic that it'll continue to grow w/o any issues. It is still very small and fragile. Any stress or unfavorable situation, I fear would be detrimental to my lil 'sole survivor seedling.' NEVER again will I buy the hibiscus seeds & chance not yielding anything, let alone healthy plants. When it comes to growing hibiscus, for a lil more $ I had also bought a Bon Temp hibiscus that was already established & strong enough to be shipped cross country!!! The 4"pot (smallest size) is small enough that you get the satisfaction of caring for and watching your hibiscus flower GROW!

I purchased these seeds in december...they arrived early and in great condition..I planted 4 seeds in 2 different containers and so far 2 has germinated, it took only 8 days to pop out..I used a small plastic cup African violet mix with extra perlite mixed into it and a large aluminum baking tray with a clear plastic lid over it. That sat into another aluminum tray that had a string of 50 clear Christmas lights between them to create heat. I am very satisfied with these seeds and will purchase again.
