Life-saver to feed my cat in the middle of the night!
Like many cat owners, my cat Zorro makes it his life's mission to wake me up around 5am to demand breakfast: the automatic kibble dispenser isn't enough - he wants his wet food too. It's got to be a full, two-course affair for him! So after sustained efforts to try and train him to wait until a more reasonable hour (to no avail), my routine has long since been to get up, feed him and then desperately try to claw back whatever sleep I could afterwards.I've never trusted the wet food dispensers out there and it was purely by chance that a few months after its release I discovered Petlibro Polar. It took me some time to make up my mind - it being a new product and first of its kind on the market (I at least had never seen refrigerated automatic feeders before), I seemed to see there were some teething pains among users in terms of functionality, app updates, etc. and, living in Europe, I was worried about ordering it from the US in case the month-long return window wasn't long enough to address any potential issues or for my cat to take to it.In the end, I took the plunge, I really needed my nights back. I can safely say it was a life-changing decision and I'm so happy I did it! It took Zorro a bit of time to figure out what the machine did, he didn't respond to the sound the way he did to his long-time kibble feeder, so I would still get up to show him what happened when the ding sounded, and he would happily eat out of the open tray. I placed both machines next to each other, timed so that they would dispense in staggered fashion so he wouldn't wander off to nag me between "courses". With patience and a few more sleepless nights, he got the gist of it and his 5am breakfasts are now autonomous from me. I'm lucky in that Zorro is very much a Garfield, he will gobble up everything in sight (not always ideal, but useful in this context), so I didn't have to worry about the door closing before he finished eating the way I know some parents of cats who are grazers do.But beyond the benefits of having this machine now, I want to very much commend and thank the Petlibro customer service team for being incredibly helpful, kind and responsive. I have been in touch with them a fair bit since I got the machine - I had some issues with set-up (there was an issue with the WiFi connection I couldn't figure out), as well as questions regarding empty trays opening when I only had a couple meals set to dispense in a meal plan, the hot plug issue that I've seen several users mention, and condensation in the refrigerated area. Every single time, the team at Petlibro took the time to respond clearly and patiently to my questions and offer reassurance, help and effective solutions, including replacement if needed - thankfully that hasn't been necessary. None of the issues I had were malfunctions, but all of them could be addressed in order to ensure a smooth user experience. I think the one I needed to get my head around more is how the rotation of the trays works when your meal plans don't involve three full trays, but rather only two, or even one. Perhaps that's something that can be communicated to users more clearly - the tray rotates counter clockwise, and so that impacts which trays you need to fill if you only need to use two, for instance. In any case, every time I've had a question, about this or anything else, I've had an excellent customer service experience and I really want to highlight that. It's really important for them to get the necessary feedback to continually improve this product, which is such a godsend for all us pet owners who have been desperately looking for a viable and reliable way to safely feed wet food to our kitties (or doggos!) either in the middle of the night or when away for a few days.Thank you!

Make an educated decision before you buy
May 21, 24 review update: Above each topic below I added the app updates that have been done. If you want more info check out the review from "Seekerrm2233" on May 16, 24. They posted a copy of an email they received regarding updates made to the app.______Original review....You can read product info on Amazon and the Petlibro website so I am focusing on what you find out AFTER you have purchased the Polar refrigerated wet food auto feeder. Short versions of topics are in CAPS and additional info is below them.Overall I am not saying this is a bad feeder but I AM saying you need to decide what works and doesnāt work for your personal scenario based on ALL of the info. If there was more app flexibility and settings control my rating would be higher.(Update = you can now control opening)YOU HAVE TO GO INTO THE APP TO CREATE/START THE SCHEDULE EVERY TIME YOU ADD FOOD. You are able to select ārepeat last scheduleā but it would be nice if auto repeat was an option like on your cell phone clock and calendar alarms. Personally, I just want to put the food in, close it and go because my cats eat at the same time every day.(Update = max open time is up to 4 hrs)MAX AMOUNT OF TIME THE INDIVIDUAL MEAL COMPARTMENTS CAN BE OPEN IS 60 MIN. This forced setting is not suitable for some pets that are grazers. My cats nibble over many hours. You are not able to set more than one scheduled feeding per meal compartment so you canāt even try to work around this unless you split one meal between 2-3 compartments and set them to open one after the other but for some people that defeats the purpose of being able to provide 3 meals over time.STAINLESS STEEL FOOD COMPARTMENTS ARE NOT CURRENTLY AN OPTION The meal Tray is made from BPA free plastic. I was not able to find SS inserts or whole tray to buy separately.SHORT PETS MAY NEED A STEP STOOL It measures approx. 6.25ā from floor to lip of feeder then approx. 3.5ā from the side of the feeder to the center of the meal compartment. One of my cats is tall and had no issue sticking his head in to grab a treat but my short girl really had to stretch and had difficulty getting it out.āPREVENTING WHISKER FATIGUEā IS A PETLIBRO CLAIM THAT YOU SHOULD ACTUALLY DETERMINE BASED ON YOUR INDIVIDUAL PETS The meal compartment opening is approx. 6.5ā wide which SHOULD be very helpful in reducing chances of whisker fatigue BUT the bowl is 2ā deep and in order for my cat to get the treat his whiskers had to bend back a lot. This isnāt going to be the case for every pet but shallower trays (or shallow tray inserts) would be nice for pets that donāt eat large enough meals that require the full depth of the bowl.(Update = you can now open up via app)OPENING THE INDIVIDUAL MEAL COMPARTMENT DOOR WITHOUT SETTING UP A SCHEDULED FEEDING IS NOT AN OPTION The product info says āServe and Schedule mealsā. Myself and others thought this meant you had the option to open the meal door via the app but I could not find this option. Maybe we all misunderstood what āserveā means?(Update = there is a product description that says it does NOT heat the food for clarity)* A few article reviews I read made statements that are no longer true and/or they misunderstood provided info. One exampleā¦.. The reviewer said that you can program it to ālet the meal warm up for 30 min before itās time to eatā but I could not find that option on the app. Instead⦠during the process of setting a meal schedule I discovered that it is a forced feature. When I tried to set it up for a test run before trying it on my cats it would not let me schedule the meal door to open any less than 30 minutes from the moment I set it up.YOU CAN NOT MUTE OR CONTROL THE VOLUME OF THE DING WHEN THE MEAL DOOR OPENS. Great for alerting the pet that food is ready but what if you dont need that feature or you NEED the feeder to be quiet while kids (or adults) are sleeping?APP ISSUE THAT NEEDS FIXED??? On the homepage of the app it says āNext feeding: No feeding scheduledā but when you select the device you DO see your scheduled feeding.
