Update - 6 months of near daily use, I had a small issue with edge chipping, a few strokes a the 5000 grit ceramic whetstone brought back a clean edge with little effort. I do suspect this is manufactured in China and not in Japan as implied. Still it is a high quality knife worth the money when purchased on sale under $100.
