Ensure Surgery Pre-Surgery, Clear Carbohydrate Drink, Strawberry, 10 fl oz, 4 Count

Wow, these ended up being life savers! I was on the fence about buying them, but they were the only thing that made the clear liquid diet tolerable. The first one I had, I only made it through about 3/4 of it before I noticed I was already feeling not just full, but also extremely satiated (which is worth its weight in gold when you have to do several days of prep - I had to do 2). The flavor is obviously on the artificial side, but it isn't terrible. I found myself imaging it was a smoothie and that worked fine for me. They cleverly have it in an opaque bottle, so at least if you're like me and are a tad weirded out by the clear aspect of the things it's out of sight out of mind. I would absolutely buy these again, and will tell every and anyone needing to do a clear liquid diet about them. Great value when compared to the average nutrition drink. Sure it isn't actually a full nutrition drink, but carbs are so so important for brain function and yet are so hard to get under the clear diet constraint. These drinks definitely deliver!

I would encourage anyone to utilize this drink pre- surgery. I would have bought the whole set (the pre and post) if I had had more warning about the date of surgery. It is excellent in supporting your body through the surgical time.

I used this as the carbohydrate side of my two-day colonoscopy prep. The clear protein drinks I was using were great for keeping my protein up, but they weren't giving me enough carbohydrates. I found that out the hard way when my blood sugar dropped one day. I drank one of these and it brought me right back around. Getting enough carbohydrates was one of the things I'd been warned to pay attention to during the extended prep, so after that I made sure I paired these with my clear protein drinks. That combination worked really well for me. I was getting protein from one and carbohydrates from the other, and between the two I got through two days without solid food considerably better than I expected. The strawberry flavor is actually pretty good. I was expecting something really sweet and syrupy, but it wasn't. One thing that surprised me is that even though the drink is clear, it's slightly thicker than water. Not good or bad, just something I noticed. This was also on my recommended list of things I could have during the prep, which is how I ended up trying it in the first place. Used together with a clear protein drink, this worked out perfectly for what I needed. Colonoscopy prep still isn't going on my list of favorite ways to spend two days, but at least I wasn't trying to survive on flavored water and good intentions.

Good for colonoscopy prep. Tastes okay, but is a tad on the sweet side. Nice break from Gatorade during clear liquid only days. Good way to keep calories and carbs up with palatable texture. Price on par with similar products.
