...for a second time
I had this album a long time ago, I bought it on a trip in Germany, and I was amazed, the cover art, the sound, the background story, it became soon one of my favourites albums. But time passes and objects decay, and so did my CD, it got scratched, thrown, bent and broken. So I bought it for a second time, I had to. I'm writing this review while listening "I died for you", what a great song, this is by far the best album IE has produced, so coherent and balanced, you get carried away with the amazing sound and storytelling, lyrics, guitars and bass reel you in from the very start. The only thing I miss from the original version is the CD cover art, I miss the hellspawn spinning around, now it's a black vynil-like design, slick black material. Also, the casing is made out of cardboard, not even a Digi-Pack.

Spawn theme, came out after the movie in '95.
Not a bad album, has good reviews from other fans, I just got it and have only listened to it once, I believe like some of their other albums, I will like it better after a few more spins.

Iced Earth ROCKS !!!! Great CD.........
Iced Earth has so many great CDs, this is one of my favorites. Many concert staples; Dark Saga, I Died for You, Violate, The Hunter, Vengeance is Mine, and A Question of Heaven. This was a great CD without the bonus tracks. The bonus tracks led me to believe there were 2 versions of an unreleased new track "Hellspawn" mix 1 &2. They are just remixes of track 1 "Dark Saga", somewhat of a letdown since I had already purchased the original version. That being said, I own all the Iced Earth CDs and DVDswhat a great band! Also try Jon's solo CD "Sons of Liberty" , a masterpiece!!

Epic music
I have been aware of this bands existence for many years but had not really listened to their music. Recently l decided that l should delve more into some of the bands l had overlooked or ignored over the years Thus l started listening to this bands music on i player and you tube and read about them on Wikipedia to see what they where all about . I am pleased that l discovered this band and liked what I heard. This band are seriously underrated. Their music is a toxic combination of trash like rhythms mingling with prog rock style sensibilities. They move between playing fast punchy loud guitars driven song to Long songs thatAre melodic and harmonious with lntertwinning instrumentation and clever song construction with frequent mood and time changes a dominant factor in all there songs The songs also benefit by being sung by a very talented and adaptable vocalist called Matt Barlow. Who can sing equally well ln a soft melodic tone or a more rawckus up tempo style Great band who at the time of this release were young and ambitious and just beginning to get noticed Check out the tracks l would die for you or vengeance is mine or the epic Dantes lnferno and give this band a listen Guaranteed you will be blown away by the sheer power and brilliance of there music and will want to listen to them more and explore more of there past and present musical output

The Last Laugh
A solid effort, if not slightly understated and containing a lack of passion; something they do not have a problem with anymore. On face value the artwork by MacFarlane is awesome and the whole package looks like it really should be a classic. There are a good handful of great songs and one or two outstanding ones but there is also a large amount of filler. The title track is very good. Chunky riffs and a tidy little hook for a chorus. 'I Died For You' should have been excellent but is only merely good. On their follow-up they produced a couple of 'power'-ballads that sounded sneakily similar to this, but they were both far better. 'Violate' is an ok thrash-fest of sorts, neither hitting the heights while keeping well away from being average also. Perfect middling fare. Then comes the classic 'The Hunter'. Hooks aplenty, the trademark Iced Earth cheese and a cracking pace and we're all happy. What comes next is filler. 'The Last Laugh' is not really bad at all and does feel very heavy indeed but is just not very interesting. The same goes for 'Depths of Hell' which does at least have a more recognisable chorus. 'Vengeance is Mine' however is pretty excellent. ON par with 'Dark Saga' and just a hair's breadth away from 'The Hunter' it is a behemoth of a track. The final 3 tracks are all linked under the title, 'The Suffering'. Unfortunately they are all rather average. On future albums they honed their skills considerably. Something Wicked... was a tremendous achievement, and they kept getting better and better. Dark Saga is not bad at all, it's just not as good as they are now.
