Do not pass by these shoes because the listing says "wide". That doesn't mean they are just for kids with wide feet. It means these are constructed to be exactly the shoe type that modern podiatrists or holistic doctors would tell you to get for your growing kid. I've purchased this exact pair twice. Not because they wore out but because my child grew out of them and handed them down to another child who still is wearing them. They are extremely versatile and made correctly for a growing child's foot. By that I mean the toe box is wide, which should always be the case with children's footwear. The wider toe box allows the foot to spread naturally which is critical. Constriction of the fast growing foot results in deformation and problems further down the road. Childrens nervous systems do not alert them to the extremely slow tightening sensation of a shoe that is getting too small because if they wear it daily they feel no difference from one day to the other. Another great thing about this shoe is that they are extremely breathable. In a world where almost all kids school shoes are made of plastic fake leather, this is a breathable mesh that presents better than a pair of real leather shoes. The synthetic textile is not plasticky. They pass my child's strict uniform requirements. My kid wears these to the playground and everywhere else and sometimes on the weekends and they still look good enough to pass uniform inspection every time. Whoever designed these shoes understood modern podiatry. They are lightweight, do not have too much cushioning, and do not have too much of an insole arch support. The metrics are right at wear a true "barefoot" shoe model should be. Too much padding under the heel absorbs kinetic energy and interferes with proper stride development, too much of an arch causes weak arches and flatter feet later on due to not allowing the passive arch muscles to develop. The very thing that inspired me to write this review was that I observed my child digging in the shoe basket for these which alerted me to the fact that indeed, she prefers these over all others. I knew exactly why that was and decided to write a review so other parents could know the importance of a "barefoot" shoe. And, that there are affordable ones that are made to the right specs.

I bought 5 or 6 pairs of shoes for my 7 year old to play indoor basketball, and these are the ones that fit him best and DIDN'T SLIDE on the court! If you're searching for a pair of basketball shoes...these are amazing! Plus, NO LACES! Woo hoo! One less stress on game day! Also, barefoot style helps my son's feet from aching like the foam type. Win win!

My 10y/o son loves his shoes! Got him a size 36. They are very comfortable for his wide feet. I used to struggle to find him a pair that would fit and not hurt after many hours of wear. Currently, his feet have grown since I purchased this. I am now waiting for a size 37 Whitin to arrive soon! This brand really is the best I’ve found for wide feet like his and mine. Highly recommend!

This is my 5th purchase from the Whitin brand. Affordable and not too barefoot with the insert which is how my daughter prefers. For more barefoot feel simply remove insert. I do like how they upgraded their kids model. See video for older model (pink) comparison to newer model (black). Flexible, breathable and great for school! Easy to wipe/wash. One picture and video is after 1.5 month daily use. One picture is first day of school. Holding up well so far, will try their canvas model for kids next. Sizing was easy, and as long as you follow their provided measurements, shoes will fit. In comparison to usual us size their size was one larger. Example: Carter’s shoes we have size 11, Whitin was size 12. Functionality is great, stretch of the material has a good give when putting them on, and had no complaints about comfort! We do wear regular fit socks, not no see socks, so no issues with rubbing in the back, but their older model was softer I the back (pink shoes in the picture). Unfortunately velcro on older model was not sturdy and I had to mend it after a while.

We bought a size 11 for my 4 year old son and they fit great. He is able to put them in by himself and they are comfortable. They have a wide toe box and are very flexible. I would purchase them again.

These shoes have been working great for our 4 year old. He is able to put them on himself, including getting them on th correct feet. They have a roomy toe box that allows his foot to flex naturally as he runs and plays. They have proven to be durable, as he has used them extensively for park trips, pre-school, and walks through the woods searching for frogs and lizards. They have also proven to be quite resistant to dirt and stains, and are easily cleaned by brushing them off. The soles are stable and provide a lot of grip; he easily climbs up the wrong way in slides at playgrounds. We are very happy with these shoes, and the price is worth the comfort for his feet and the durability.

Hands down my daughter's favorite shoes. We have tried a lot of the minimalist shoes for kids. These ones take the cake for durability, comfort, and style. My daughter wears them everywhere, every day. The first pair did eventually wear out from so much use. When it came time to replace them and go up in size, she wanted the exact same shoes. The are great value, are extremely comfortable, and light weight.

Like the wide toe box, but not as comfortable as other shoes. It makes more of a clapping sound when our kid's foot hits the ground. Fun to try something different, but will go in a different direction in the future.
