GranAroma Tamarind Powder, 1.4 lb, Asian Cuisine, Sour Flavor, Unique Spice

This was great to use when I make some asian sour soups.The tamarind powder has the sour flavor I am looking for and it's convenient to use and store away. It dissolves quickly in the boiling soup and was easy for me to add more to reach the flavor I wanted.The bottle came perfectly sealed and I saw no quality issues.It's a big bottle that imparts a great value for the price.This has been a great addition to my pantry spices.

Fresh tamarind and tamarind paste are great ingredients to cook with but having it as a powder makes it easy in a pinch. Add water to make a paste or to cooking too add some sour fruity tamarind goodness to your dishes. Easy to work with and nice ingredient.

I found a recipe years ago for making your own Worcestershire sauce, and tamarind paste is one of the ingredients. I made a new batch using this, and the result is that I was able to use more vinegar and fish sauce, and end up with a strong variant. Very nice.

Tamarind is an ingredient in many south Asian and middle eastern recipes; we especially like it in Pad Thai. You can get it as an extract, as a paste, as a powder, and you can even get the whole pods in our local Asian store. We recently used up a bag of excellent tamarind extract, which made terrific Pad Thai, better than what you get in a restaurant.We thought it would be much more practical to keep a bottle of the tamarind powder, so we ordered this product. It seems to be of good quality, smelling and tasting fresh, and a reasonable quantity is supplied. However, when we reconstituted it as a paste and used it to make the Pad Thai, it was good, but didn’t really provide the sour fruity taste as well as the tamarind extract had. So, while I think that this is a good ingredient to have around our kitchen, we will probably buy some tamarind paste or extract to use for our rice noodle dishes.

Great product! But when it arrived, it came as a block, probably harder than brick itself.. I ended up cutting the plastic container open, dumping out my brick and crushing it, as food can't be returned on Amazon. Didn't want to waste it. Don't get me wrong, it tastes good just so hard. Once broken down, it turned to a fine powder and tasted yummy 😋

I'm eager to try this in many of the dishes/other uses where I've heard of people using tamarind. I had only heard of a paste before, so this is a new experience for me. A little on the sour side, but that's what makes it so good in a hot and sour soup. Really large bottle, not sure if I can use it all in a reasonable amount of time, but it's worth it for the curiosity factor.

Not sure why it doesn’t list what’s in it other than tamarind powder. The powder is hard like a rock and you need a couple of tablespoon to get the sour taste. If you want a better product , buy at Asian store and look for tamarind powder. Not buying this again.
