They were cut in pieces and dried. The pieces look intact and almost hand-picked for a best quality cooking. The jar has a label with necessary preparation instructions, nutrition and shelf life information. The production date is stamped on the lid. I prepared the mushrooms according to the instructions, cut them into smaller pieces, then added them to my cabbage soup.
