I am concerned about the ingredient: mea laurel sulphate. please advise.

MEA lauryl sulfate is a very high-quality cleaning agent made from coconut oil. It cleans the scalp and hair without 'stripping' them of too much oil. Here at Nature's Dream, we are the distributor of Tony Maleedy Juniper Scalp Therapy Shampoo and we have the below response from Tony:

The main ingredients in the Juniper shampoo are six naturally antimicrobial oils. These are juniper, tea tree, white thyme, corn mint, rosemary and eucalyptus. All these oils are very good at controlling the level of bacteria and yeast on the scalp – not indiscriminately killing them, that would be bad as they are native and important to the health of the scalp. It’s only when there are too much that problems occur. The advantage that Juniper oil (which gives the products its colour and burnt-wood smell) has over the other oils is its anti-mitotic properties. This means that it has a soothing and calming effect on the scalp tissues, so slows down the rate at which the skin cells are form and prevents scale being created. This is why this shampoo can have very good results on people with Psoriasis and where the scalp is tender and inflamed.

Hello Linda, thank you for your question.

The Juniper Scalp Shampoo will be fine to use with hair extensions. Unfortunately there is an inherent risk when shampooing any hair with extensions. Sulphates don’t add risk - the reason you’ve been told this is likely because SLS (Sodium Laureth Sulphate) has a bad reputation for drying out hair. It’s the most common cleaning agent in the world - if you check the back of pack of most shampoos/shower gels/hand washes you’ll often find it in the top 3 ingredients. SLS is used because it is cheap - it cleans incredibly well, but it can be harsh and drying for hair and skin.

We do not use SLS in our shampoo - we use a far superior ingredient call MEA Lauryl Sulphate, which is made from coconuts. It’s not actually the sulphate aspect of SLS that drys the hair, but the sodium. MEA Lauryl Sulphate is a lovely and much milder cleaning agent in comparison.
