We picked up the ALPHABLOCKS Matchums game for our 3½‑year‑old, and it’s been a fantastic addition to our playtime and learning routine. This set of letter & picture matching cards truly brings the alphabet to life! What we love: • Multiple ways to play – This game isn’t just a simple matching activity. These variations keep it fresh and engaging as kids grow. • Real educational value – Tying letters to familiar objects (like “C” for “Cat”) reinforces early phonics and builds foundational reading skills in a playful way. • Durable and kid-friendly – The cards are sturdy, with rounded edges and matte finish—no worrying about curled corners or easy damage. • Bright, appealing artwork – Clear, bold illustrations that really draw in little ones and spark conversations about each item. A couple of small points: • Packaging could be improved – A small box or tin would be great for on‑the‑go storage, as the current cardboard sleeve doesn’t offer much protection when packed in a bag. • Limited letter sets – With just one card per letter and picture, it’s ideal for younger kids but might feel too easy once they master the basics—consider grabbing two sets if you plan to play memory or multi-player games. ⸻ ✅ Final Verdict ALPHABLOCKS Matchums is an engaging, thoughtfully designed game that makes mastering the alphabet genuinely fun. Overview: Alphablocks – Matchums Learning Game is a fantastic learning resource that encourages phonics development. (As was previously getting tired of using endless post-it notes to explain and teach the blending of consonants and CVC words. Therefore, having durable letter cards encourages endless phonic and word blending in a more organised and neat fashion without the hassle of dealing with post-it notes. Pros: - Multiple ways to play. Keeps my learner entertained and allows for customizable difficulty. Can therefore foresee getting a lot of use out of this game. - My learner regularly watches Alphablocks (the television series), and was therefore really pleased that they can follow and reinforce what they've learnt from the series, with the same colourful visual aids. - The picture boards and picture cards is a great tool at getting learners to identify 'first sounds'. Cons: - Wish more picture boards were included, as the set only includes 5 picture boards, and there is no option to purchase more picture boards from their official store. Hence, you'd either have to create and print more (paper) picture boards yourself or look at buying additional learning/teaching resources. Conclusion: Depending on how you plan to use this game i.e. if solely using for the intention to match picture to picture or picture to letter or vice versa, then it can get boring quickly after the learner has played the games many times, and also defeats the 'learning' purpose as they may begin matching from memory, rather than relying solely on the individual phonic. However, if a parent/guardian is able to guide the learner and actively use the letter cards and picture cards to encourage identifying first and last sounds for example, then I would highly recommend this game as you're able to customise the difficulty level to the learner's needs which is more value for money.

Being the teacher that I am can result in endless purchases of games and books to support my son’s letter and sounds development. Many previous purchases have resulted in lots of disappointment when they don’t use the correct phonemes that are taught in school. It is so lovely to find a game that is not only fun and interactive, but finally uses all of the correct phonemes for the letters. My son and I have spent many hours playing different modes of this game and it has massively improved his knowledge of letters and their sounds. Would definitely recommend buying this game for your little ones as a great way to build the necessary foundations of phonics.

Absolutely fantastic for my number blocks super fan. She loves the game and I love knowing how educational is it for her. My daughter is 5 and finds it a little easy but still really enjoys playing. The quality is good and will definitely hold up to a lot of play and being passed down to younger relatives.

Our son who has recently started school loves this! He found it fun matching the pictures with the letters & rewarding for little ones when they get praise for getting them correct! This really helps children learn & improve on phonics and encourages the children to sound out the letters and get more confident!

My son really loves this game. He’s remembering letters and saying the words out loud to the pictures to help him understand sounds and then letters. A great way to engage with my little boy too, he loves playing games and this one is a hit!

Our two young children love this game, each at different levels in school but find it equally enjoyable and fun, which is a real bonus. Anytime away from a screen and learning through play is a big plus for us. This game has really helped my youngest start to sound out his words! Would highly recommend
